2014 European Speedway Championships

Could not agree more HA, many of them have been very short sighted and even warning signs a few of years ago were ignored. Also I do not understand the need for all these controlling bodies, maybe they are needed, but they do seem to take a lot of money out of the sport, and cause conflicts. -

Sorry to post on both threads but you may only be reading this one. -
The Rebels are being shown on BBC West news between now and 7pm. Well done to whoever got this exposure. It was a good piece which showed a bit of the racing and the celebrations having received the cup.

I accept your point but would rather see them than nothing at all, as not many clubs show races on their sites. -

With all the rain forecast the track and carpark could be like a lake by mon am and unless it drains very fast would probably still be wet throughout tues. This foreign forecast shows rain till early tues, the BBC rain till 3pm tues, but the forecasts keep changing. Wed night if available looks the best bet, just hope they make a decision early tomorrow. -
Website states that food and bars are open from 5.30 for this meeting. Just need to keep an eye on the weather.

While the BSF has been having hiccups the last couple of days I have been looking at the speedway races on a couple of clubs websites. If there is no tv the quality of some of these clips is good enough for a highlights package, obviously more clubs would have to follow the examples of some clubs. The Monarchs tv clips are good enough. A tv version of Radio Oxfords Planet Speedway with races being shown may be an answer. -

45 - 43 Somerset only two points down, will have to hope the weather on Monday is better than that predicted. -

Thanks to those putting scores on here. -
I watched both at the same time with the big screen showing the speedway and the football on mute , but would watch speedway over football every time.

Have looked at what they are showing this coming week on Freeview 57, not very interesting. Will see what they show on the weekend their advert mentions. It does seem though that every BT user is having all their prices put up, line rentals increased again, plus having to pay for 1571 etc. Cannot see BT showing Speedway apart from maybe a highlights package produced by someone else, providing it did not cost much.

Swindon used to run on a sat night, and got lots of away fans because people did not have to get up early on a sunday etc. It moved to a thursday and the crowds went down. They now have dog racing on saturdays and with the gps and football on most saturdays a switch back to a saturday racing is unlikely. I would not watch football even if they paid me to go to watch it , but many speedway fans follow both football and speedway. We used to have major meetings on a sunday, including one after the Cardiff GP which many of the GP riders used to ride at but even these have now stopped. The Cardiff weekend was very good with fans going to Somerset friday, Cardiff saturday, Newport sunday afternoon then Swindon sunday evening. Many from abroad who came for the GP also came to Blunsdon. There are too many GPs and with them being shown on Sky, this has seen the reduction in weekend meetings. League meetings shown on Sky have a positive and negative side. People may see the sport on Sky and then visit their local track and become a fan. Others stay at home and watch a meeting rather than go because of the cost, or if the weather is iffy, or if the meeting being shown looks to be better than their local meeting. I hope speedway on tv continues, even if it is a highlights program.
