Speedway Riders - Employment Status?
A ORLOV replied to Little Thumper's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
The riders are self employed and would be paid as their contract states, the payment has nothing to do with the minimum wage. -
Some have been saying that for over a year not realising they have been treated like mushrooms, the current issue should not be too difficult to sort out but these problems keep cropping up.

These long range forecasts are getting longer.

With the weather that is forecasted for this winter, if it is true not a lot will get built anyway. They are forecasting three months of snow and very cold temperatures this winter.

Speedway Riders - Employment Status?
A ORLOV replied to Little Thumper's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
As riders are self employed any conditions come down to the contract that a rider signs. It may be that the contract would not stand up in court if questioned or the rider ignored it. What I do find strange is that a club think they have rights over what a rider can do beyond the length of contract. -
Speedway Riders - Employment Status?
A ORLOV replied to Little Thumper's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
It seems that the speedway authorities has stated that once a rider has ridden so many meetings for a club that the rider becomes an asset of that club, but I cannot see how in law that this can be the case, unless the rider signed a contract agreeing to the terms that he would become an asset. There must be a few riders who are that good when they come to the UK that they can make up their own contract without the asset condition in it or with a time limit on how long they are controlled by the club. A club in the UK cannot tell a rider which clubs abroad he can ride for, so legally the rider is not an asset of the club, it is purely a restriction in this country so I am not sure if it would stand up in law and a restriction put on riders by the authorities. -
Time To Stand Up To The Polish Clubs ?
A ORLOV replied to Countershaftcounter's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
It will depend if he and any of the other top riders stand up to the Polish clubs or sign a contract and accept what the Poles want. While Poland is paying so much the riders might just stick with it, but if the payments drop then the riders might give the country a miss. -
Letter received from the council refusing to accept the proposed parking arrangements and traffic flow arrangements, not sure if this will hold up any start or not.

Agreed and unless more training is bought in it may mean that unfortunately clubs close. I understand that at the moment the bspa has a rule stating that a promoter cannot be a promoter of both an EL and PL club. If that is the case it stops a club having both which in turn has a ready supply of guests from the PL for the EL club as well as the advantage of bringing on the youngsters. If this is the case it just shows how short sighted the bspa is. Hopefully next season Swindon will have a NL team from which there might be a rider or two we can use.

Why would the league be full of guests, if foreign riders are not signed it means probably either a lower standard of riders for a couple of years or less clubs. There are a few clubs looking dodgy at the moment so they could drop to a lower league and just use riders that want to ride here. I do agree with what you say about the UK leagues not being in charge of their own destiny but maybe this is the shake up that the bspa need.

If the powers that be expand the training schemes etc we can concentrate on British riders and only those from abroad that want to ride here. I am not too worried if riders from europe decide not to ride here. If like many of the Australians who base themselves in the UK any earnings from abroad while the £ is low will be a bonus. Anyway by next March the exchange rate will have changed and may be back up, it just needs one of the many factors that determine the value of the £ to change.
