Buxton V Brummies Sun 16th Aug
trophykid replied to Brummies_Ste's topic in National League Speedway
Heat six did it for me too and a very enjoyable meeting. Great tenacity displayed by the Buxton team, with Tony Atkin leading the way. Great stuff. -
There are more toilets in the brick changing rooms by the pits.

It's Rasmus Jensen !
trophykid replied to Aroundtheboards's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Blew a bit hot and cold with Plymouth, especially away. -
The Cult film 'Bronco Bullfrog' made in 1969 features a scene at Speedway. I'm led to believe it's the Hackney Hawks and the clip is on YouTube. Top film by the way

Stoke Potters V Birmingham Brummies 29th March (ch)
trophykid replied to guitar_art's topic in National League Speedway
Looking forward to this early test for the Potters. However, heavy rain showers are predicted for the Newcastle under Lyme area tomorrow. -
That's a real shame for the Potters, but good luck to Ben too. Who would be the likely contenders to replace Ben?

Encouraging Young People To Become Fans!
trophykid replied to Trees's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I'm 41 and my nephew 19 loves speedway. However it's promoted as family entertainment and not as a fast, exciting, motorcycle orientated sport. Most bikers disregard speedway. I was one and saw the light. My nephew was influenced by 'On any Sunday'' I.e. exciting, fast, etc. -
Urgent Postponement Stoke V Buxton 13/04/14
trophykid replied to Swift Saint's topic in National League Speedway
The old Holditch and Silverdale Collieries were very close and open cast mining too. I hope this current track problem isn't too problematical. -
Urgent Postponement Stoke V Buxton 13/04/14
trophykid replied to Swift Saint's topic in National League Speedway
After reading Malcolm's comments its seems to me more extensive remedial work is needed. I'm no expert on Track prep so I hope this can be resolved swiftly and safely. -
Plymouth V Rye House League Cup 4 April
trophykid replied to Vincent Vega's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Genuinely surprised and genuinely delighted. Well done to Plymouth and their unlikely heroes. -
Anyone remember this machine from 1973/74. Apparently Eric Boocock tested the machine at Coventry without mishap. Was it ever used competitively? Do any of the contributers here have any personal memories? In light of the current F2 speedway bikes, it's interesting that a motocross engine formed the basis of a speedway bike 40 years ago.

Blimey Vog, we'll have to agree to disagree on this on . I recognise the struggle you have outlined, however walk a mile in the shoes of people who have no prospects, little access to education, and don't have your life choices. My contention was that there are more deserving sections of society who should qualify for discounts. This is fairly uncontroversial. If your insulted by that, then you really need to grow a thicker skin. Best wishes fella.

I didn't say everyone is well off, did I? Read the post. University students very often, but not always come from well off back grounds. I'd target people who genuinely can't pay.
-
University Students are often from well off middle class back grounds, who could afford to go if they wanted. Better to target people on the national minimum wage or school kids from deprived areas if you wanted to give discounts.

Motor Cycle News Man Of The Year - Tai Woffinden
trophykid replied to manchesterpaul's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Bloody Hell, genuinely gob smacked- well done Tai. Speedways failure to engage with the biking community has always stuck in my craw. Or Speedway promoters please use this to get more bikers down to Speedway. -
Leicester Join The National Trophy
trophykid replied to Islander15's topic in National League Speedway
I hope this thread doesn't move on to the subject of Leicesters track...oops. Seriously though the addition of Devon, Scunthorpe and now Leicester has to be welcomed as the National League needs the extra numbers. -
There's been some good and reasonable debate here about Stoke. Could I ask Malcolm to drop by a bit more? A bit more PR. Bridges need to be built. Merry Xmas Potters.

Great news, love my visits to Sheffield. A quintessential speedway experience

Smarty didn't have a good year last time out. I hope he pulls out all the stops to show us what he's capable of doing.
-
Great news. One of the few highlights from last year, and likely to improve on his average.
-
Thanks for the replies guys. I just want some debate on Stoke Speedway. Anyone who cares, speak up.
-
Will there be further decline? Will the Potters ever be in a position to return to the premier league? The low crowds and general apathy concern me. I sincerely hope for a vast improvement for 2014. Any comments!?

Take a look at football stadiums before and after the Taylor report on Hillsborough. Football has attracted more punters through the gates since then, and the new facilities are a big reason for this.

A nice spread in Motorcycle News about Tai in the sport section.
