Some help with my failing memory please
Grand Central replied to False dawn's topic in Years Gone By
Oh yes ... No one could moan and groan pre meeting as much about a wet track as him ... A right sour faced malcontent he could be ... So it was always satisfyingly amusing to see him have to cope for all those years having to run meetings in the p!ssing rain at Vojens. -
Some help with my failing memory please
Grand Central replied to False dawn's topic in Years Gone By
Today, of course, riders provide their own helmet colours and can have them bespoke fitted to their helmet and securely fastened. In the GPs most have 4 helmets in the appropriate colour. But back in the seventies the helmet covers are provided by the track ... Many were in a very poor state of repair, tattered and loose fitting with knicker-elastic that would do Nora Batty proud. That why Olsen felt he had a right to moan about 'his' not being fit for purpose. -
Yes and all with 3-2-1-0 scoring ... The absolute bedrock of proper speedway.

Yes. The app worked fine on my iPad from the start. But has always played up very badly on my Kindle Fire and never resolved. But avoiding the app and using the exact editions website and it all works fine.

No. it was fine for this year when extraordinary circumstances demanded a different approach. Hopefully next year the GP and domestic leagues can get back to something like normality. And then the following year under Discovery we'll be having GPs all over the world and everything will be very different !

British final 2020
Grand Central replied to Nassa10's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
You may well ask ... I've lost track of the names of all of them too ... -
As far as I can see the FIM have pulled a blinder. They have sold the SGP for massive bucks to a second company/group that hasn't got the faintest idea about Speedway and it's limitations ... Just like they did with BSI twenty years ago. And they have done so on the same bogus premise of the bizarre idea that there is vast untapped market .... . All those countries who haven't shown a ounce of interest in the sport in almost 100 years of its existence are all going to be won over THIS TIME . Bonkers The truth is that they have not shown any interest in Speedway because ... THEY REALY ARE NOT INTERESTED. It is that simple. The FIM have actually sold the SGP at a massively inflated price, not based on what it actually IS but on a fictional 'what it might be' in a parallel universe. For the second time. Mr Viegas saw a bunch of mugs coming in and sold them a chocolate teapot for a King's ransom. Brilliant work that man.

Errr .. Yes. Is that something we didn't know?

There have not been many - if any - rule changes brought in since Armando became head of the CCP that have NOT been crap.

British final 2020
Grand Central replied to Nassa10's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
It was for a while ... that sort of squirming-for-him type comedy of David Brent or Alan Partridge. But the comedic value has waned with relentless repetition. But leaving Sam out of it ... Dave Rowe and Chris Louis would seem a good partnership for domestic TV next year, Other ideas that come to mind are ... not to employ any 'dolly birds' with no Speedway experience, give us a rest from NP/KT for a while (leave them on the GPs), cut down on the studio nonsense and give us rapid-fire racing with just the odd (brief) interview with riders ONLY when there is an incident worth commenting on (Steve Brandon always seems to get that right). -

Good to be reminded about what an excellent co-commentator Chris Louis is ... Hopefully Eurosport will make use of him next year (if he wants!) rather than the hapless Ermolenko.- 861 replies

No £12 would be too much for them all.

I find all this very strange. In my business i send and receive small packages daily from and to my suppliers and I always use first class post ... I genuinely cannot remember a parcel that has taken more than two days in either direction for a good number of YEARS. It is usually next day. Mine are usually small boxes around 10cm x 10 cm x 20cm and going by the standard first class rate for that size. What can be happening that is so different just because they are so obviously magazines ... And it is happening so widespread and so often ? Is this an industry wide problem that other mag publishers find happens to them ? How can my experience with Royal Mail be so incredibly different. And honestly covid hasn't affected it at all. Except the Post Office queue is now non existant.

TALKING DIRT
Grand Central replied to PHILIPRISING's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Bit if a curate's egg for me. The programme would be twice as good if it were half the length missing out the non speedway nonsense and cutting down dramatically the screen time devoted to Kiki Dee. Both Kelvin's bits were excellent and a bit of a pity that they are diluted by the rest. Needs a bit of nimble 'finger-work' on YouTube keep skipping the other parts. -

£20 for those fortunate enough to have confirmed tickets to attend. Fine. £12.95 for streaming without full broadcast quality pictures, on-screen talent and production. Total rip off. Calling it a British Final .... Laughing stock. -
Rest of the GP series

No not undeserving at all. Not really very overwhelming either. But very nice chap.
