Are There Better Ways To Limit Team Strength?
g13webb replied to Grachan's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Quite simple really. Firstly, Have a big Committee ( they say, safety in numbers) and Secondly, Committee Members cant make decisions on their own riders.. Making it a lot fairer.. -
Are There Better Ways To Limit Team Strength?
g13webb replied to Grachan's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Because of the way the averages has been systematically destroyed over the years, they don't serve any purpose now. They are purely fictitious figures, used when its suits. Once they were related to a riders ability, but not now. They serve no rightful purpose... Instead, Why not grade each rider at the start of each year. A committee is set up to access their ability, base on various information, Results, Improvement, Injuries, Competition etc...etc... Graded riders LH1= 5pts; LH2=4pts; HL3 =3pts; 2nd=2pts and FTR = 1pt. ................ Teams to have total 8 riders, but team strength = max 20 pts per meeting............ Got to be fairer than it is now.......... -
Why is it in most SGP, the tracks, at the start of each Grand Prix are usually all 'gate and go' and 'one track only' exercise. It appears the track doesn't become racable until its had a few races run. The track at Cardiff was the best I'd seen, but we had to wait until the last batch of rides before the excitement started......and the gates weren't the most important factor... Forgive me for being too obvious, but surely running a few races, as additional practise, prior to the start of the meeting would benefit everybody concerned. Benefits: 1) It would bed the track in allowing it to become racable from the start of the meeting, 2) It would provide pre-meeting entertainment for the punters, 3) It would give riders a better insight to the state of the track, enabling the right setup from the start.. 4) It would minimise the preference of gate selection, allowing a fairer distribution of points 5) It would make a better 'value for money' package of watching more races for the same cost... 6) Minimal cost to the promoters. Benefits all round........,

Berwick V Peterborough (on Sky) Wed, July 8th
g13webb replied to crescent girl's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
What is it with people in this country, we always look for the negatives. Christ it weren't that bad. I've seen far worse. Sky do try to bring the sport to the viewers, and they have no control of what goes on in the races, so no one can blame them. The track is not ideal, but they at least have one. I'm sure there are many clubs, who have closed down, would like to be in Berwick's situation. Ok, last night, fortunes were against the Bandits from the start, but praise to the Panthers for their determination to win.... and win well. Just hope Lamberts is OK following a nasty looking accident. -
Depends whose asking??????
-
Just because the league bosses are naïve enough, to access new foreign riders with a low average, doesn't indicate their true ability, whether it be on paper or not. ...... Allowing a club to bring in a new rider on a low average doesn't do the sport any favours at all. What it does do is: 1) Give the Club the opportunity to pull a fast one over their opponents , 2) It gives the rider the opportunity to gain experience before clearing off when we won't pay his top wage demands. (Served its purpose) 3) It takes away another chance of an home rider progressing into the to league proper. But then again..... Why should that surprise anyone.........

Appreciating, Ward is Box-Office, and also very talented, but whether he is right for Swindon only time will tell. Obviously his loyalty is to Poole and that's a big worry. I can't help in thinking this process is for their benefit only. Sure he will pull in the crowds, but I wouldn't bet there's an arrangement with Poole, in place to safeguard their position. Lets imagine a Poole and Swindon Final, and it comes down to Ward against Holder. Do you honestly think Ward would bite off the hand that feeds him......... Do you think Poole would allow that...... Darcy is known to be selfish, but he's not stupid..... I would like to see Darcy sever all ties with POOLE and sign for someone else. and to give his all , all the time , If that club was to be Swindon then all well and good. But this way ,, No ,, like I said the only benefactors are Poole......... Also, Its good to get new talent and this Krcmar might be real good. I hope he is... But I was under the impression everyone in our league was on at least a 5 CMA, so how is it possible to bring in riders with a lower average than that..... Is this the way of fiddling averages????? We sure do strange things in this league...........
-
When I read the PMPO's comment, I thought it was a tongue in cheek remark about Darcy's lack of professionalism. I read it as he was taking the rise out of Darcy Yet you say exactly the same thing as was intended and get loads of people agreeing with you... Strange people Probably I'm the thick one.... Sidney; I take it your holiday is not very good. You've spent more time on the forum of late than most others, when you should be having a real good time . Relax mate, turn off the Laptop / Phone, Put your sunny's on , have a glass in your hand and dream of Darcy winning you the BEL..... I'm sure the holiday will go better , that way.......

I don't think Buster or Rob have any intentions of ridding themselves of KB......Win, lose or draw, he's here for the duration........ Just wish they would keep their fans informed of there intentions........

I can understand your logic with what you say, and your conclusion would make perfect sense. As a retired Project Manager, it was always my aim to eliminate problems. be them large or small. When something like this happens on a meeting of this scale, someone has to take the responsibility to fix it. Because all gates should be reasonably equal. it was paramount this problem be eradicated. Yes, the track held up well and deserved all the praised it received. But surely the gate issue must have shown itself up when the pre-meeting practice took place. This is the part I can't understand. If what you say about the levels of the start area, then why not do the remedy work to bring all levels equal. If the out lanes are being compacted because of the riding line, then supply the start marshals with rakes. Issues need to be alleviated. Doing nothing is never acceptable...... Failing that, and thinking out of the box, then why not position the start line at a small angle ( Similar to Athletics), bring the inside say 5 or 6ft further back. It may not be ideal, but it would have been far better than doing nothing. At least it would have given everyone an even chance of getting to the semi's Who knows, Cookie may have reached the semi's had the gates been fair. As if was, riders like Holder, Woffy, and Pedersen received a massive helping hand by having 2 rides from the inside gate. Probably had Cookie received the same privilege as them , he might have made it too......
-
Wouldn't it be wonderful if the plans and schedule for the EDR's were laid down so everybody knew the score. Instead of which, it appears the BSPA make it up as they go along........... Unfortunately, half thought out ideas, are not the recipe for success.....
-
We had the top 16 riders in the world on show, but even the best gaters couldn't make gate 4 work. Never seen such gate biasness before, and as I previously said, it took the shine off the meeting. Never before has such importance been put on the gate selection order for the semi and final. Just so pleased the meeting wasn't determined by that advantage. NKI, proving a worthy winner, coming from gate 3. .
-
I wasn't having a dig at Holder, just pointing out how the gates were ridiculously bias. Obviously he would pick the best gates as would everyone else. but there shouldn't have been such a difference. In 23 races. Gate 4 never provided a winner...... Please don't be so keen to treat others like yourself, everyone is different. I have never agreed with the ref stopping races whether it be for KL or not., just because someone lays the bikes down, To me, Rights - Right, and wrongs is nobody business.. As for the Garrity incident, I suggest you watch the recording again. Your logic makes me laugh....... It appears you are the one with rose tinted specks...........
-
Not had chance to read through the pages yet, but as you can imagine, well pleased with the result of the SGP. I thought the meeting was OK. the track was the best I've seen, but to me the preferences of the gate positions really spoiled the meeting. For the first 16 heats, It appeared gate 1 guaranteed a win.. There were many minor positional changes, but usually, when you got to the front you were home and dry.... It showed up on the screen after 20 races, 16 from gate1 2 from Gates 2 and 3, and if you were on the outside you had no chance. and that to me is so unfair....... Holder actually had 4 gate1's in 7 races, whereas some only had 1, Kildemand went down in my estimation. In one instance, he twice going to ground so easily just to get the rerun. Seeing some of the angles he achieves when he rides he, more than most could have tried to recover instead of pulling a fast one. and then he later he tries to fence Magic down the home straight. really showed him up in a good light, what a nice man... Garrity 'Tee-Bone' on Lambert was ruthless in the extreme, But Doyle and Pedersen on Killer, were just brushing 50/50 racing incidents, with no intent. They're expected in this sport...... Ref's need to look at that rule.... When riders bale out, there should be other options instead of automatic blame.... Good night, Plenty noise, Plenty drinks, Lots of cocktails. even the surprised Winner in Niels, added to the accession, all adding to a wonderful weekend........ Expensive though!!!!!!!
-
What needs to be remembered here, is that Ward favours Swindon because of it's location,........ not because he puts any importance in the club. Any decision Swindon make to accommodate Ward should be looked at responsibly....... Here today, Gone tomorrow.....

Should be an easy win for the Robins, especially as Wolves big 2 are firing blanks..... Only when you see Wolves ride away, you realise how weak they really are...... Shame that... If ever a team needed WOFFY......... its now.....

King's Lynn Vs Poole 1st July
g13webb replied to Star Lady's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
If Kings Lynn was big town with a large population base , Like say POOLE, SWINDON, LEICESTER, COVENTRY, WOLVES or MANCHESTER, then probably there might be something to gain by lowering the prices. but Lynn is not like those places and have to rely on supporters from a large catchment area. ( See post 294) Buster's average supporters might total 1300 more or less, coming from distances of up to 50mls or so. When on the television, these figures will obviously drop. I believe you could give, the ticket out for free, and still not get the support numbers you go on about. So where would that take him...... Bird in the hand ......... -
King's Lynn Vs Poole 1st July
g13webb replied to Star Lady's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I sometimes think you argue a point just for the sake of it, as your comment above portrays. Every club and occasion is different. There is no laid down right or wrong theory as to what always works. Having a cheap admission, might be the right thing to do, when the track is in a densely built up area, ( i.e; The Midlands), but when located in the open Fen countryside, you rely on supporters coming from much further a field.. A recent survey highlighted the majority of the Star fans travel more than 20 miles to support the club. A large proportion travel as much as 50 miles. So reducing the admission would never overcome the obvious advantage of watching the speedway on the tele, from home. I am sure Buster knows far more than you, and he priced the fixture accordingly. After all, he would know what was the best for the club ....... -
There has been no bigger supporter of KB than me, but there comes a point when you say enough is enough. His confidence has gone, but to me his heart has gone as well. He shows no sign of concern even, Has anybody dropped their CMA more than KB ????? That tell the true story...... Probably a return to 2nd division racing MIGHT rekindle his appetite !!!....

King's Lynn Vs Poole 1st July
g13webb replied to Star Lady's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Strange meeting that!!, Obviously pleased with the win, and the way Lamberts recued the occasion, but have to question the team performance. It appeared after Ht 7, with the exception of Maciej, Poole where there for the taking. Never will it be more achievable, than it should have been at that time. But instead of consolidating the position, we take the foot off the pedal and allow them back in it. No!! I'm not knocking Poole, they showed all the fight and determination to battle back, and in the end deserved to get some reward, but we should have shown more fight. Some of those first corners were terrible. Having always been a Magic lover, he didn't disappoint. He was superb all night and led by example.. Showing the rest what can be done. Our heat-leaders were a big disappointment. Milik, occasionally showed his class but let the team down with that stupid pull-cord incident, Niels was outclassed and beaten by Maciej 3 times, and Bjerre, what a complete joke. ( If Lynn has any intention of winning this year, than he has to go. He has finally exhausted the fans patience) Must be the most disappointing rider in the league this year by far... Kerr, Morris done their job, Porsing continued his progress with fast equipment, and Lambert was always there or thereabout. In the end we were lucky to get the 3 points, Thanks mainly to Mildo picking the wrong pair. Watt had just won his last 2 rides and beaten Lambert soundly in HT.14 . To me an obvious choice.... Buster, the track was superb, a real racing strip. It was shown, that IF you were prepared to have a go, you could make that pass. There were 10 races within 1.5 sec of the track record. That's quick...... Thoroughly enjoyed the night, Good racing, Good company, Good weather, Cool drinks,.... feel we got out of jail though....... Roll- on Cardiff -
King's Lynn Vs Poole 1st July

To-nights result , could have a big bearing on who picks who in the play-offs. If we continue to impress, nobody will fancy coming here to play........ -
King's Lynn Vs Poole 1st July
g13webb replied to Star Lady's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Really???? I think that's about right....... They say it could reach the magic 38c ( 100 F) today. , First time since '76 apparently ..... -
July is now with us, and as always, could turn out to be the most important month of the season. This is the month when teams step up a gear and strive forward in their quest of a top 4 finish. and implement those changes that each have been taking about....... All the teams with any intended changes will have to be finalised, because as from 1st August it will be too late... The obvious speculation regarding Darcy centres around Swindon but who else has to go to make way. Who else will be making big changes ??? ....

King's Lynn Vs Poole 1st July
g13webb replied to Star Lady's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
On a good day, we could batter them. Likewise on a bad day they could do us the same. Going man for man, my opinion would be Poole 4-3. Track wise, they're not much to choose either way. Gating, again not much to choose again. Not a Middlo lover, but aware of his ability, apart from his mouth. Rob has a more laid back approach. Both know the score and how to win... I think the difference could go down to motivation of the riders, and if Rory's there , that could be the where the advantage could rest.... Lynn will be expecting to win whereas, Poole will want to lay a marker for the play-offs. Will go for a close 48-42 home win, with hopefully no TR.
