Poole Pirates Vs Kings Lynn Stars 12/07/17
g13webb replied to Shaleshifter's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
That's not going to happen, No doubt he'll see the season out here. Who know about nest year, he was annoyed that Matt Ford dropped him, but living down the south coast would suit his circumstances. But Chris is a proud man and wants to be where he is wanted. He is enjoying his time in East Anglia.... Took his time to settle but now reaping the rewards.... I hope he stays but I wouldn't bet on it...... -
Have faith , Even if KK scored plenty, I still cant see them scoring enough......
-
My thoughts are similar, I was thinking around the 50 - 40 mark plus Tactical ride... plenty in hand to secure those 3pts... The way things are, if Poole can get a point , they ill deserve it....

Poole Pirates Vs Kings Lynn Stars 12/07/17

The posts on here are always good for a laugh, and the opinions sure do offer a variety of choices. Some are, just to wind people up, others are solely to troll, most opinions are from the heart, from those who can only see one team, but amongst all them you'll find some based on reality. Reading through this thread we had some weird and wonderful suggestions of what the score would be. Some were laughable, some were stupid, and some were ridiculous. This match was always going to be close, mainly because Poole haven't performed like one expects them too. With a weakened side, riders injured, the result of this match could have gone any way. It was always going to be close, one way or the other. We all expected Chris to fill his boots, but it was the solid performance of the Stars side that was the key to our success. Its a long time since we have sampled victory here, so you can rest assured it was thoroughly enjoyed... However it was achieved.. Tomorrow, the return fixture at Lynn, will be more decisive. Unlike others, I feel we are strong enough to overcome Poole's blighted team, and can see them having to use the TS to stay in contention.... If they can achieve an away point they'll do well.... -

New Averages For 42 Point Limit
g13webb replied to DunRobin's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Take the first number you thought off, multiply by the number of riders in a race, divide by the number of laps he does, then multiply by the number of teeth on the back sprocket, when you have this sorted, you'll probably you'll be nearer to the truth... -

Correct, the 2 matches at home were disappointing, The Wolves match, we only had 4 riders available, and Belle Vue we used new 2 riders . hardly a normal comparison, against the two strongest teams in the league . Those 2 away matches were far better, in that we won at Somerset and performed way better at Wolves. -
I understand the points argument you say about Holder, But there are 7 men in the team and that argument s could be proportioned against them all. True I expected him to score more than he has, but I also expected Lambert, Batch , Porsing and Rose to do so as well. Coming here after spending most of his working life in Poole was always going to be difficult for him, especially saying he was never comfortable on our track.. I believe Holder has at last come to terms with the Lynn set-up and results will get better. Probably it would be better to wait until the end of the season, before picking Chris out as the main reason people aren't happy with Lynn's performances.....

Joking aside, I think you're being a bit premature here mate. Probably Poole existed then , but Kings Lynn definitely didn't. Maury Littlechild and Cyril Crane, started work on the track back in 1964, with the first meeting in 1965 won by the impressive Terry Betts . Started league racing the following year.

I for one will be disappointed if we don't take the advantage we have of these two meetings. There has not been a better chance to put one over the Pirates than now. With the right attitude, these matches are there for the taking. Whether we do or not, is another matter !!!! -
This discussion about the track is not about people lying, it all about opinions. Bit like Marmite really, some people love it and others not so. I must say I can see both sides of the argument. Always well prepared, and its unique shape creates many varied results. Massive advantage to be gained when knowing how to ride it. A good smooth rider at the front is very seldom caught.. Over the years have been to Monmore Green many times, but never completely satisfied with what I had seen. To me I prefer racing to be fast and flowing, not fast with sharp corners. Like I say its all down to opinions....

For the first time in many years I feel we can go to Poole and be confident of doing well. Partly because of the Pirates being weaker, plus the Stars are starting to show some form at last, this match should be interesting. We are more than capable of putting one over and coming away with a point or two. Our 3 heat leaders all go well at Wimborne Road. and with Poole checkered form and injuries of late, we should be able to take advantage of this time. Imagine taken 6 points off Poole in successive days . That opportunity don't come along very often. Final note: 2 or 3 yrs back, I travelled the 200 miles to Poole for the rain sodden Play-off, only to be greeted with a massive man made hole on the first corner. This match was never going to go ahead from the off. and as fans, not being told, we were treated like mugs. I said then I would never do that again. So in normal circumstances I would probably have gone tonight, but after the last time, I will not be going again.......ever...... -
I believe I'm right in saying the website is now run by Nigel Pearson and Co. No doubt he has this responsibility of many speedway clubs and all are updated on a strict timetable. It appears the Lynn website is updated Tuesday morning in readiness for Wednesday's match. Whatever we may think of this makes little difference, the timetable will continue until such time when decisions are made to the contrary.

Speedway World Cup 2017

It appears, I'm not so forgiving as most posters on here. We are looking for excuses of why we didn't perform, and in all honesty I feel riders like Cook and Lambert were a big let down. We didn't expect then to be challenging for honours but we did expect better than tailing off at the back. This was the pinnacle of this years racing, the biggest shop window you could ask for, and both reacted like 'Rabbits in the headlights' on the biggest stage of all. This has to go down to bad preparation. and attitude. It was never going to be easy, and any results would have to be fought, long and hard. and any ideas that this was like a normal meeting were in for a rude awakening... Robert did rise to the expected standard in his last race, but it was only equivalent of shutting the door after the horse had bolted. Had he shown this energy earlier probably we could have rescued the bronze medal. When Cook was interviewed on the Tele, he said the team were together and confident of doing well. they were there on Friday to watch a learn. He obviously didn't watch too much and learnt even less... We know Cook and Lambert are better riders than this and that is why I feel they let us down big-time... Full marks to Bomber and Worrall who can hold their heads up for at least making a fight of it, I always thought Bomber would be competitive from the experience he has gained over the years. but Worrall to me was our Star Performer. Never having rode on this stage before, he rose to the occasion to mix with the best. a brilliant effort. Had the others shown similar attitude we would've walked that 3rd place. There can be no joy in coming last in any competition, Yeah, some say we finished 4th in the world, better than some more distinguished countries, but we were only there by the luck of the draw and beating a injury savaged Aussie team, Surely there can be no celebration in that..... -
Speedway World Cup 2017

I've got no problem with the Russians winning a place in the final, that they deserved. but all this animosity towards the Aussie's is surprising. They are the only country that collectively want to ride these shores. Take them away and the quality of our leagues will be reduced to nothing. Last night they struggled. Riding slow equipment and surprised by the opposition, they were up against it from the start. I don't blame Batchelor for his part in the slowing down, While Jokers are used, these antics will continue. But to rubbish the effort of the Aussies as a group to me is wrong Our league would be in S--t street without them. -
Speedway World Cup 2017

Just back from a few days away, touring North Wales and was really pleased that I was able to watch live streaming of the 2nd Semi-final on You-Tube. As been said, a terrific advert our sport desperately needs. This meeting had all the ingredients for close racing and didn't disappoint. I have often argued that the Lynn track disappoints me, but I am in no doubt had the semi-finals been switched venues, the excitement would have been the same . With four teams chasing the SWC the 2nd SF was always going to be the one to watch. Had that been run at Lynn there would have been lots of excitement and not necessary the same winners.. Likewise, had the first SF grouping, rode in Sweden no way would that have been the dream meeting it has rightfully been acclaimed. but no doubts the result would have been similar. I think the FIM have made a pigs ear of the rules and organisation of this event . Why is it , every year, we always have the weakest group of teams in our Semi-final. USA, without Hancock, aren't good enough to compete at this level any more. and the fact that they are through to the play-offs instead of Denmark merely illustrate the poor organisation and planning... But my biggest moan has been reserved for those blasted JOKERS. This sport will never be taken seriously while these are in place. The governing bodies should be strong enough to tell the TV people this sport is not a joke and doesn't need false positioning provided by the use of the Joker... -
That's where the management comes in . motivating of the team. making them believe they are the best. Make no excuses !! We need that winning mentality!! Man for man; rider for rider, we are equal to any other team in the league. Unfortunately recent results don't back that up. but that doesn't mean we are weak, just that we don't perform when it matters.,,,.. Our heat leaders of Holder, Batchelor and Lambert are as good as any other team and should be good for 28 to 30 plus points each meeting. Our 2nd strings of Huckenbeck and Jorgensen ought to be grabbing 8 to 10 pts leaving the Reserves the small task of the collecting the rest. It sounds too easy to be true. Like you say, ' when we click?' but we have been waiting for that to happen now for years....... We need someone to find that switch !!!

Speedway World Cup 2017

Having now watched the recording of the meeting, I thought the occasion was far better than the recorded one on the box. I don't think the crowd was as high as previous years but the atmosphere was pretty good. Team GB have to be congratulated for winning so comfortable. Once Doyle was withdrawn from the match the Aussie team was always beatable. but to win with 3 races to spare was very impressive..... The selection of Cook, Lambert and Bomber were never in doubt. Worrall was my only query, but he proved me & everyone's doubt were unfounded. As a team, they did all that was expected and more.. You can only beat what's on the table, Australia started the meeting off poor and gave away 4 pts in the first 2 races.. and were never to recover Obviously it was nice to see Holder back to something like his best, Yeah he made a couple of mistakes, but he was always there or thereabouts in all his races. Batchelor was consistent and deserved his call-up. But the others were poor. I don't think the inclusion of Doyle for the play-off will be enough to get them through and will probably need FIM help to strengthen. I think the venue was tailor-made for meetings like this. but the location in the east needs to be questioned.. The track was again disappointing and offered the riders very little opportunity to pass. Most races were processional and any overtaking was created more by mistakes than excellent riding. When watching the tele, I heard Scotty say the surface at AFA, Buster uses clay based shale that offers a lot of grip, probably too much, in that all the riders can go equally as fast. I know we contently moan about the track but its good when seasoned riders like Scotty comes out with comments like that.... Yeah, pleased we won, but not the best of meetings. I sometimes think, are our memories playing tricks with our minds ?? When looking back, I believe meetings were far more exciting than they are today. I can't imagine I will look back on this meeting with fond memories like I use do with many others.....and that's a shame...... -

When it comes to the top teams in the speedway world we don't even come close, whereas Australia are capable of competing with the best. Looking at the Aussie team, they are all capable gaters and here holds the key to the outcome. In the UK side, Cookie is the best gater and will be able to fight from the front, whereas Bomber and Lambert . will always be playing catch-up. You can't do that at this level. I am also in no doubt of the outcome. If Buster provides a decent race track, then at least we could look forward to some exciting races...... But don't hold breath...... -
Swindon Robins Vs Wolves (29-6-17)
g13webb replied to Crazy robin's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
In my original post it was not my intention for people to think I was referring to all Wolves matches, my only comparison was when you played KL. Such was our weakness that night the match was over before it began. I didn't think your guest selection last night was poor and thought they would score as many as the riders they replaced. But for whatever reason that wasn't the case...... -

That was the one I was referring too. Missing Huckenbeck was as tremendous loss and rendered the R/R as a waste of time. I don't blame Wolves for that, but thought that fortunes favoured them... -
Swindon Robins Vs Wolves (29-6-17)
g13webb replied to Crazy robin's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
When I saw the teams for this match, I thought that fortunes were favouring Wolves again, in that they are riding against teams severely weakened by injuries and guests. As good as Batch is riding this year, he would never be as good as Jason Doyle. The form of Morris has probably been the biggest eye opener of the season and represented a massive lost. Kurtz was never going to fill that void and was never the ideal replacement. Whereas, on the other hand Wolves, using King and Starke to replace Howarth and Riss I thought to be more than adequate, and if anything made them even stronger. and all thoughts were directed as an easy Wolves win. For Swindon to overcome such odds and win must rank long side their best achievements ever A truly memorable performance, one that few could ever had forecast. Wolves would have gone home disappointed. They wont think they won a point tonight, they'll actually think they lost 2 pts in their quest to finish top of the league. A big well done to Swindon , It must have been a good meeting to have witness....... I have always said, the closer the score the better the match........... -
No doubt, we all like to think that Lambert would put preference to this club when compared to the others he ride for, and any decision he made about racing would be directed this way. When injuries require time off to recuperate we want him to forego his other commitments and rest ready for our next match. After all, the other clubs are not as important as ours. Probably it is us with our head in the sand and Robert see all the clubs as equal and rides the meetings that suits him....
