King's Lynn v Wolves 22/08/18 DOUBLE HEADER
g13webb replied to Bagpuss's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
We don't very often share similar views but these are my thoughts exactly. £25.00 is more than enough to attract punters to go any double header. I have lost count of the DH I have been too, and cant remember one that ran as was expected. The track is of paramount importance, and has to be good to slick for that amount of races. A grippy track is more difficult to ride and will create more accidents. We don't need many hold ups before the time moves on to a late finish. I would bet money the second match will finish early, probably after 10/11 heats, especially if the result is not in doubt. So thinking along them lines, £25.00 is more than enough.... -
Adding a 1 week extension onto the cut-off date'
g13webb replied to g13webb's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
To give people an understanding of our fixture congestion , tonight is our designated race night, yet there is only 1 fixture. ( Somerset v Belle Vue)… Kings Lynn, Poole, Leicester, Wolves and Swindon are not riding because of their riders availability. Tomorrow Swindon play Belle Vue but this typifies the problems that was created when the BSPA voted to have FRN on a Wednesday. . -
Adding a 1 week extension onto the cut-off date'
g13webb replied to g13webb's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
' 44 dates to fit in 13 home meetings' You make it sound so simple, but in doing so you forget to mention the 12 away meetings that have to come into that equation as well. Lets not forget the 20% of those dates when each team has to be a spare because of the odd number of teams , and that then sure puts a different outlook on your simple equation...…. I believe it is wrong to alter rules, but looking at the league placings , no team is home and dry and all have plenty of fixtures to fit in before the end, All we need in another crap week of weather and every team will be in the mess. This problem is not solely the fault of individual promoters it is the fault of everybody involved with the way the sport is run... -
Adding a 1 week extension onto the cut-off date'
g13webb replied to g13webb's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
How do you make that out? Before FRN there were at least 4/5 days a week when team could arrange their racenights, now we have only 2. With there being only 7 teams there will always be a team spare with no fixture. That alone magnifies the problem of available dates. You say last year you got all your fixture in, but I remember you one rode 4 meetings in 9 days, that is something you wouldn't to able to do this year, so Swindon would have been in the same position than, as teams are now. Unlike a lot of posters on here, I try to be positive and think of the bigger picture. I see no sense for a team to compete in a league all year, only to be deprived of a PO because of fixture congestion. The sport struggles to be taken serious by the general public, yet we continue to shoot ourselves in the foot. This is not about KL, Poole, Somerset or any of the other teams, is about making decisions for the benefit of the sport . And if the 'Powers of B' cant do that, then each of us must question our sanity of supporting our teams in the first instance.... Again you only see one side of a problem. Just because Somerset has offered dates, it doesn't make them right or wrong. Obviously these dates were not convenient or else they would have been arranged. But no doubt Buster, would have offered an alternative , but these were not convenient either. It is so easy to be judgemental when hearing only one side of an argument. -
Adding a 1 week extension onto the cut-off date'
g13webb replied to g13webb's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Those Rye House dates hasn't altered the schedule at all, Where once all 8 teams could play each other on a said day, now we have 6 team competing and 1 team spare. In actual fact since RH withdrawal it has made more of a problem. All RH withdrawal high lighted was the wasted race days some teams had used up. Whose responsible for fixture planning ?? Whose responsible for the calender schedule ?? We all know who were responsible for those FRN... -
With less than 3 weeks to go before the cut-off date, it is apparent some teams are not going to fulfil all their fixtures. With the teams so close in the league , any unplayed match will have significant bearing on the final PO positions. Surely a weeks extension would be more acceptable recipe than teams winning by default. An extra week would offer 2 extra dates for those teams struggling to complete their schedule. Would adding another week create much of a problem ?? Probably, it wouldn't fit with the TV schedule, but adding an extra week to the contract could benefit everybody. The league could fit in the PO semi's and Final in a 2 week windows, still leaving ample time before the season finishes.. We at Lynn have waited 50 odd years to win the coveted crown. This year we are again in contention for those play-off places. It would be a shame if we lose out because of foul weather cancellations, poor fixture planning and them dreaded FRNs.... Be interesting to hear other posters views....

Buster personally told me, he would never do another Double Deader as they have cost him thousands ££...

There is no dates available to fit in all our remaining fixtures. If there is no extension, what is the situation regard to responsibilities of cancelled meetings. Who are awarded the points? . Our rain cancelled match at Somerset has never been rescheduled, and could have a big bearing on which team finishing top of the league. It would be a shame if Poole were to benefit in this.

What's the point of a roof ?? The days when we watched Speedway in the rain have long gone. The grandstand , without doubt, gives the best view in the house. -
King's Lynn v Wolves 22/08/18 DOUBLE HEADER
g13webb replied to Bagpuss's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Added on to that: lets say, No 10) We need 3 Belle Vue riders standing by in case of injuries or replacements needed. ( BV is the only team not riding that night.) We don't need long memories to remember the fiasco of last year when in the second match we only had 4 riders.... There're nothing good about 'Double Headers' and am surprised the BSPA have taken this route. Are we to believe then that our two remaining fixtures ( Leicester and Somerset away) are to be solved by doing more DH's . We are planned to race at Leicester on the 27th, no reason why we cant turn that into a DH as well. One question, Why were Poole allowed to race against Leicester on a Thursday (Non FRN), when faced with a similar situation??? They could have had a Double Header when they rode against Leicester 25th July. -
King's Lynn v Wolves 22/08/18 DOUBLE HEADER
g13webb replied to Bagpuss's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
You're forgetting that each club has to fulfil the same number of away meeting as well, so your argument is way out. The FRN has in fact has decreased the number of available race days by half, regardless of the number of cancellations.... -

King's Lynn v Wolves 22/08/18 DOUBLE HEADER
g13webb replied to Bagpuss's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Nobody likes Double Headers, least of all against the same team. The fans don't like being late finishing and costing almost double, The riders don't like working twice as hard, putting double strain on the bikes, The promotors don't like losing money, and have difficulty in making these fixture work.. Its a tight schedule to fit in 2 meeting in a single night. All you need is a bad accident and the whole scenario goes to pot. RR or 1 guest makes a tremendous difference to the timetable, before we know it will be gone 11 before its finishes. The result can be a massive gamble and are never in keeping with the recent form. It would be far more feasible and sensible to run only one meeting for double points. It cannot be logical to run two meetings, when the happening of the first can only compound the second. Utter madness..... -

g13webb replied to Bagpuss's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I cant imagine Buster will want to go down that 'Double Header' route, after all the problems and issues from last year. Probably be better to follow Poole's president and run on other days than the FRN. With time running out finding alternative dates are a big concern. Looking at the fixture list we are still waiting for some our dates to be finalised. I for one, always believed FRN would create more problems then it solved. -

The A47 Wisbech by-pass is also closed from 8pm tonight till 6am tomorrow morning for repair works, could add another 15/20mins on your journey time. This is expected to last all week. It will probably be best to take the country roads home, through Magdalen, Wiggenhall, and Marshland St James -
King's Lynn v Wolves 22/08/18 DOUBLE HEADER
g13webb replied to Bagpuss's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
We fans at Lynn, know teams come here and will always have a chance of success. Unlike some places with massive home advantage, away teams will nearly always score 40 odd points. No, I'm not complaining, I like the excitement of close competition. It means our lads have to be on their toes and firing on all cylinders. Thankfully those days when we use to score 60 pts are long gone. We go to AFA now knowing it will be exciting racing and be very competitive. But saying that, Wolves don't travel that well. They have a solid team, if not exciting, where all riders do their bit. They are not the force they once were and have suffered the consequences of getting rid of Fast Freddie and Woffy. Thorssell and Schlein are solid riders but they don't compare to those superstars..... Although most of their team like the wide open spaces that the AFA offers, I see this as a relatively easy victory for the Stars. I'm going for a 50-40 where all the shouting is over before we come to heat 15... -
Any hampering in the first race was caused by Roberts slow gating. You cant blame Riss for that. He was in his first race for a new club and wanting to impress. He was giving it his all, and unfortunately blocked Robert on that first lap. We all expected Lambert to be in the front chasing Cookie, and no doubt Riss was as surprised as anyone to see Lambert behind him... Give me a tryer anytime. Was well impressed with Riss on that first showing....

King's Lynn v Belle Vue 08-08-2018
g13webb replied to g13webb's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Are you for real ?? Niels without doubt is the most respected rider, that we are fortunate to have riding for us, and racing in our league. Every other club would our hands off if we offered them the chance of him. He is without equal... For 6 out of the last 8 years, he has single handedly carried this club, and for you to dismiss him, in your above post, is insulting. Call him Mr Reliable, Mr Pointscorer, Mr Bigtime, Mr Our Saviour, you can call him many names he is that good. Some years he has been our only rider capable of winning. In seven years you can count on one hand the times he has let us down. He has topped the scoring charts for more years than I care to remember, I cant believe there are people who want to change him for someone different, just because his recovery from a bad injury is taking longer then usual. A world without compassion, and respect is a very lonely place. -
Poole v Leicester. Prem B. Thursday 9/8/18
g13webb replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Surely that would have applied to every club. Looking at the fixture list this week there were teams not playing, who could have been fitted in on the said FRN. Seems a bit early to start using Thursdays on that excuse.... Are we saying then, that the closer we get to Play-off's we can ride on any days just to get the fixtures in ???? It makes a mockery of the whole FRN shenanigans, and really puts the boot in on Rye House's battle of survival.. -

Strange one this, Why were we forced to race 3 meetings at the start of the year on a Wednesday without our Danish riders , when it appears Thursday is now an option... Is this another new rule ???? -
Its far more complicated than that. It depends who wants what and who they ask... then again it might change next month....

Transponders have been around for years and are used in most levels of motorsports. They would be a godsend to speedway, not only eliminating the discrepancies of the finishing order but also to the many false starts that are called back. Good starts can then be rewarded instead of being pulled back all the time... Not having transponders in a sport, where speed is everything, to me is a no-brainer…. -
Seeing Erik Riss last night was so pleasing to the eye. Making his home debut for the Stars he had it all in abundance. Not standing on ceremony for anyone, he mixed and battled all the way. His body language was amazing and his ability was there for all to see. Loved the way he laid on the bike 'Long Track' style going down the back straight. A wonderful acquisition that will benefit the team big time…

King's Lynn v Belle Vue 08-08-2018
g13webb replied to g13webb's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I think you got that a bit wrong, Max Friske was not in heat 1, Erik Riss had more speed than Steve Worrall , and from someone else who was standing in line with the start, said he didn't quite make it . Heat 15 was a much more close affair, Niels got the Jump with Robert riding shotgun. for 4 laps Max was giving it his all. Robert seemed to have all his moves covered. Coming up to the line there wasn't much between them, Niels was the obvious winner, riding the outside line, but Robert mid track, allowed space for Max doing the outside run. My friend in the Start line stand said Max got there by half a wheel, a result that would have been just reward for the effort he had put in.. A 4-2 result would have been sufficient for a Stars win, but BV would have got the point the performance deserved..... -
King's Lynn v Belle Vue 08-08-2018
g13webb replied to g13webb's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Sitting in the Royal Box as per usual, we were so assured of heat 1 result we filled in the program before the result was announced. Such to our amazement, it really did make a mess of the program having to change it all. Even when considering our position, there was no denying BV had got off to a flying start by securing a 5-1. Riss had battled hard, but no way did he get that second place. We weren't to know how important that decision would be, but when a meeting is that close , there was always be repercussions of a bad decision. Strange meeting, that I thoroughly enjoyed. It seemed wrong that we were always leading, when for long periods, I thought Lynn were second best. Friske, Cook and Bewley were all on it and scoring points for fun while we were picking up the oddments. New man, Erik Riss was a revelation with his battling attitude and his lay down styling from his 'Long Tack' days. He will be a tremendous asset in the weeks ahead.. Our top men Lambert and Niels appeared down on pace, missing the gate and playing catch-up all the time. Heat 11 was a real wake-up call. With Friske and Cookie hitting home with an easy 5-1 against out top man. The writing was on the wall, now only 2 points in it with 4 races to go. As in many previous meetings this year, when we come to the business end, our top two riders rise to the top. Going into the last race we only needed 2pts to be assured of victory. When Niels made the gate and Robert tucked in behind, for the first time all night we knew we had won. Friske battled all the way and nicked 2nd on the line. only for the ref again to make another dubious call. Obviously pleased we had won, but felt sorry for BV who had battled hard all night and deserved a point at least. This was a tough meeting, watched by the biggest crowd of the season. We are now well in contention for them PO places. If all the riders can hit form on the same day we are capable of beating anybody. Whose next ????
