Elite League Draft Riders
g13webb replied to Daniel Smith's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Since when has fair(ish) been part of British Speedway. Like it or not, this country is ruled by the cheque book.. People like Buster must feel like pulling, what hair he has left, out by the root. He has been one of the few promoters who give the youngster the opportunity and the encouragement to progress in this sport. Some of the other clubs don't give a damn. Now we are expected to give up on these young riders, we have spent much time and money on, so they can go and ride for them other teams...... Sure sounds FAIR to me.......... -

British Speedway Promoters Meeting
g13webb replied to dantodan's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
When Poland were involved in the WTC at Lynn a couple of years back, the place was heaving. probably to the point of more Poles then British. The place was covered in red and white flags. So there are plenty of supporters out there, once they become interested. -
Elite League Draft Riders
g13webb replied to Daniel Smith's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Why not allow the teams to pick their own reserves within laid down guidelines. And each team have a pool of 3 reserve riders. that way all teams will be covered for the inevitable injuries, and /or form or availability. -

Reading the article in the EDP, Rob Lyons added another description of the riders, able to facilitate the reserve berths in the team, as those riders being able to ride in the National League. This could eliminate some names, already mentioned. -

I think the allocation idea just complicates the issue. Fair enough, make the rule to include young British riders at reserve for a year, but let the Clubs and Riders do the sorting out of who rides for where. That way everyone has a chance to ride where they want. -

Now you're being extreme. I am of the impression that the BSPA have hit upon a new idea, to reduce costs, fast track the British youngsters. Sure, they could have said nothing until all the details were finalised, but they decided to announce the idea before they'd had time to finish. All I said was give them a chance . There's bound to be a few issues to iron out but so what......... -

True, but a lot of what you say is your assumption. All I said was give the BPSA time to detail their plans when a lot of the negatives should be answered. I personally don't think they went far enough. -

I belief the outrage that has been posted on here, about new ideas, is way over the top. Personally, I think the promoters have done well in the idea of bringing in young British riders. Ok , the exact details have still to be finalised, the wording in the announcement, could have been be a bit different. But Christ give them chance, they only had 3 days. I'm sure the minute details can be iron out in due course. The League doesn't start till March 2014 Its appears so easy, to be negative all the time, but what miserable lives you must lead. -
British Speedway Promoters Meeting
g13webb replied to dantodan's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I think the majority of decisions made at the recent AGM have a positive feel to them. Obviously there are areas that need to be addressed in more detail but generally I feel the promoters have tried to change things for the better. We need more structure for new British riders and fast tracking them, instead of foreigners, has to be good. There have been many questions on how it will be achieved but unlike others, I will wait for the details before offering an opinion. Without doubt the worse announcement to come from the meeting was the closure of Peterborough Speedway. Even when there was a millionaire at the helm, prepared to plough in money, it just shows how precarious some clubs are. Sponsorship is ok, but nothing can replace the interest from supporters and the ability to run the club in a viable way. Just a shame with this announcement goes one of the best race track in the country and the club that created fierce local rivalry Sincerely hope a buyer is found soon. -

If that's true, then Brilliant. The sport needs a new start. -
There's too many crap small tracks in the Elite League already, we don't want another one... But would welcome Ipswich and Leicester, both within easy reach for supporters to follow.

No Sky Or League Sponsorship Money Etc...
g13webb replied to Phil's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Good Post. Not nice to be so blunt but true. We in the UK cannot compete with the foreign countries when it comes to the number of supporters. For that reason we need a reality check. It is so wrong that the riders are being paid the kings ransom just to perform here when we haven't a chance in hell of making it pay. We need a structure in place that govern these things. If the riders are prepared to ride for these affordable prices, then good, if not then goodbye. We have to get back to the situation where the sport is the most important and the riders are just people who partake in it. and not the other way round. We need speedway in this country, at a price that's affordable, and sustainable. if that can't be done with the top riders then we goes with those we can afford. SIMPLE!!!! -
I understand what you say, but he will rule for years to come. If it hadn't been for stupid rules and an inefficient pit crew in Phillip Island, he would have won the World championship there..... .

Not wanting to run Jorge down, and admit to his obvious class, but this year, Marquez has surpassed everyone with his unbelievable feat of winning the World championship in his rookie year. Even Lorenzo couldn't do that. so Marquez will get my vote. 1st Marc Márquez (ESP); 2nd Woffy; 3rd Sykes

You could levy them arguments against the whole of the speedway season, Not just the KO Cup.

Reading many posts on here, I am amazed at the importance that some posters put onto the appearance of star riders. I am of the belief that the biggest problem our Elite League faces is the cost of employing these top riders. Until they can bring those costs down to an affordable level, I see no point in the sport digging itself into an even bigger hole then it is now. To me the most important people in this sport are the promoters. Without them we have no sport. It is the promoters who take the gamble and put their money on the line, to provide us with our entertainment. They’re no magicians, most of them are honest people trying to make it work. Compared to them, the riders are of little importance. They just turn up on the day, ride for their own enjoyment as well as ours, and get well paid for the privilege. There are lots of posters on here saying they will only go to watch the Darcy Wards, Woffy and the other big names. But the sport is more important than star names. Simple calculations based on an attendance of 1000 people per meeting, promoters cannot afford spending £2-3000 on a star rider, just to watch him ride for 5 mins. . It’s about time the supporter and the star riders realised this. People will say Sponsorship makes the money up, but that’s not sustainable if the crowd numbers are not there. Clubs need to be viable, just to survive. -

Generally all speedway leagues. Positives: enjoying a night out with the excitement of close racing, the smell and mixing with people of the same interest. Negatives: the BSPA always thinking of their own personnel interest first, instead of the whole sport in general.

No doubt if the Stars, with Panthers, Leicester Lions, The Witches and Mildenhall were all in the same league, wouldn't the matches be exciting and well attended and generate a brilliant atmosphere. I sure that would bring back the supporters.

I've become very disillusioned with Elite league speedway. There are so many issues that need to be sorted. Our teams and those of the oppositions change riders each week, The rules are broken regularly and teams seem do as they like. Some Wednesday we have race meeting and then miss a month. There are a lot of riders who go through the motions purely on a no interest basis. I'm afraid, I too, am getting to the point of why bother. These past few months I've enjoyed watching the 'Young Stars'. So what if the times are a second slower, the racing is close and exciting. We have these young up and coming lads giving there all, to impress the manager, wanting to keep their team place. Some of them are that young, when they take their Helmut off, you see they're still just schoolboys. There is no pretence, no prima donnas, just youngster trying to make a name for themselves. So going with what 'Bagpuss' said about no top guns next year, I believe it would be the correct step in bringing the costs down to an affordable level. I have the utmost respect for Niels and what he as done for the Stars, these past three years. But we need to look at the bigger picture. and watching these youngsters at half the cost. is for me the way forward.

King's Lynn V Dudley (po Final) - 9th October 2013
g13webb replied to Mimmo's topic in National League Speedway
Although we lost to a strong Heathens side, I thoroughly enjoyed an exciting meeting, as like most of the NL matches I've been to. It was good to see a decent crowd supporting these matches. especially the boisterous away fans in the stands There is a lot of talk about the problems with speedway as a whole, but probably the answer is staring at us in the face all time. Last night we had good close racing, competitive racing, going one way then the other, the excitement was always there. But we had it all for only £10 a head. Do we really need to pay double that just to see a FEW top riders doing the same as we saw last night.? -

If you haven't been since at Lynn since the 80's you'll see lots of changes. Most of them for the better. If this goes down to the last heat I shall be well pleased thinking we have a chance of winning with Mallet and Kerr. But, I think the double points will be your saviour. Hope you enjoy your visit to Saddlebow Road,
