King's Lynn V Lakeside 9-4-14
g13webb replied to Daniel Smith's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I didn't go a lot on them either. To me the main issue of a programme is to fill in the score card. On a dark background it was difficult to see in the night light, the score boxes were too small, and you need so much room to unfold it to read. I would rather we got a printed A4 sheet with the race card on one side and comment on the other. Charge a quid and make a killing. it would save Time, Money and Effort. Come to that, we could do it at home on the computer and save ourselves £2.... No, Buster you got this one wrong............. -
Coventry Bees V Kings Lynn Stars 11/04/2014

Obviously believe we can get points from this visit to open our away account. How many we get depends on many factors. I believe all our riders with the exception of Porsing have ridden Brandon before and gone well. Our top three will no doubt get their quota of points, but the final result will rest on how well the youngsters go round . Fingers cross for a close and victorious meeting. The journey home always seems to take longer when we lose........... -
Coventry Bees V Kings Lynn Stars 11/04/2014
g13webb replied to Woz01's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
In all my years of following the Stars, I can't think of a time when going to Brandon was more optimistic then we will on Friday. We have made this journey many times before, without a chance in hell of getting anything. But this time I feel it's a distinct possibility we will win, or are capable of winning. Led by a strong trio of heat leader, I'm sure the rest can secure enough points to get an important away win. The weather looks good, my only concern is the track. Just hope, after all the issues they've had with the track, it is back to somewhere near it's past condition. Can't wait....... -

Thoroughly enjoyed a convincing victory. The home side kind of stuttered to start with, and Lakeside was doing their bit, But once the Stars started to shine there was only ever going to be one outcome. Led brilliantly by Niels, with an impeccable maximum, who showed how it should be done with fast from the gate and some amazing first corners . Lakeside were no pushovers, But tonight, the Stars were impressive. On this showing we will take some beating at home. Can't wait to see them at Coventry and then Wolves, before welcoming Belle Vue here, next week. -

I see a close meeting, all on tender hooks. Swaying one way then the other. NKI and Kenneth battle well but are suffering from Jet lag. Lambert and Porsing have impressed but have no answer to Mikkel. Lawson has surprised no one as he always scores well at the NA. Heat 13 and the scores are level. 2, 5-1's in heats 14 and 15 gives a fitting climax to a brilliant evening. Why cant all matches be this exciting........ But which way, does the scores go???????? -
I for one thought it was rubbish. waste of time and effort. It did nothing to enthral me about the coming season, all it done was concentrate on Poole this and Poole that, as if they were the only team that mattered. To me, they have turned more people against the sport with their consistent, self-righteous attitude. It was left to Worrall to talk about the draft system, as the commentator never mentioned a thing. When talking about future British stars, Lambert didn't warrant a mention. No, I expected far better than that, but as usual Sky was disappointing.

Birmingham V Coventry 9/4/14

If the same Kennett, that rides for Rye House, turns up to ride for Birmingham, it could be a close affair. If not, then can only see an away win.. -

Sad , but true..... -
Then you would have certain teams using that facility in their own advantage if and when they thought fit.. You cant have it both way. Poole are in a situation of their own making. they have tried to implement a joint No 1 system using both Darcy and Holder, Now it has complications. This is not a get at Poole post, but no other team would have the same predicament because each have kept the same team they originally declared.

Yeah, Darcy was unlucky when Smolinski 'tee-boned' him, and in that instance, I agree about him being in the wrong place at the wrong time. But I thought he was lucky when he got reinstated the first time, when he bailed out and came to ground. Before the rerun, Crumppy called it before the start, of what was going to happen, but Ward hadn't learnt as well as he ought to have done, and did exactly the same as the first time. This time the Ref done the correct thing and excluded him. I don't like to see anyone get hurt and hope Darcy is back before too long....... -

If we had to hand pick a team to play our first match, Lakeside, sitting at the top of the league would be the last choice. Because of their home track advantage, they would always be in contention for play off places. Now they have assembled a decent team and have hit the road running, this match is going to be difficult. They have quite a few riders that perform well at the NA and will come here with a fair bit of confidence. We need to hit the ground running, with each rider pulling their weight, only then will we have a chance of success. This is the first of five meetings in 10 days. With Coventry on Friday, followed by Wolves next Monday, before Belle Vue and Birmingham next week, this period will have a big bearing on our position this season. Fingers crossed we come through with many points on the board.......... -

It was a brilliant SGP that can only restore some much needed enthusiasm that has been lost over recent years. Since when was there a GP when 10 out of the 16 riders actually won a race, such was the openness and competition on the night. There was no follow the leader, and all gates were used to win . Most of the predicted name fell way short of expectations and the finalists were not on everyone favourite list. Last years top 3 of Woffy, Hampel and Niels languished in the lower regions, but have no doubts they will be back, near the top, come the next rounds. Darcy Ward can be added into that equation as well. This could result in 2014 being a real showstopper this year, with a dozen or so riders in with a shout of winning a round. What was impressive about this one, was that everyone was able to race on a fair track that favoured no one. Cant wait for the next.......... -

Thoroughly enjoyed the first SGP . If all speedway was like this we wouldn't have any issues with the lack of support. Unpredictable, Exciting, Fast, the meeting had it all. I don't agree with comments aimed at Nicky Pederson. He was consistently the best rider today, coming from the back and from the gate, and in the end was unfortunate to finish second. You cant knock Smolinski though, waited while the others were fighting between themselves, then took his chance for a brilliant win.. Although a bad nights for NKI, If all the SGP are like this I won't complain.... -
Robert Lambert Mouthing Off In The Star. Oh Dear.
g13webb replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I take on board what you say and can now understand why you thought I was referring to the BSPA. Making comments on this thread, I was trying to keep in content the fact this boy is just 15 yrs old, and when that young, you tend to say things without appreciating the implications. Probably the people who was doing the article should have been more helpful, instead of thinking about making him look 'the big I am' . they were aware and should have explained how he was coming across. either way, the opinion I have is that comments have been way over the top for someone so young and innocent. -

Typically you have taken what was written in the wrong context. The jealousy factor was aimed at those posters on here, who were coming out with all the flack, such as: ' If he's not British then he cant ride this year' and he'll have to alter his average so he can't ride for Lynn' etc. etc.. as if he's committed the biggest crime in the world. Never once, was that comment directed at the BSPA. As for the rules , I am well aware of the restraints in place for 14yr olds, but you can't knock someone who has the ability to go places where he was allowed to race...... -

g13webb replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I wasn't aware he was questioning his nationality. Just saying he didn't want to ride for England. I believe the rules relate to the riders nationality and not his racing licence. I'm sure Rob Lyon is well aware of how he feels and thinks. To repeat what someone else has already said. Britain needs Lambert far more then Lambert need Britain. The whole thing reeks of jealousy that Lynn has unearthed a talented youngster. He didn't take the draft route on offer to other British youngsters, he wanted to go the whole hog, the full package. Give him the credit he deserves. Instead of chastisizersing him for something he said, that was purely published to help sell magazines -

I've just spent several minutes reading this thread and am amazed at the flack, that has started because, something that a schoolboy of 15 yrs has said. When you see some of the crap written on here by Shovlar, talk about pot kettle black....... What posters should realise, Robert Lambert a young talented rider, who has got where he's at, without no help from the BSPA. He had to go aboard to race and propel his career rather then wait until the rules here allowed him to. Sure he may have said things that some don't agree with , but I can understand his grievances. If he was to read the flack he's received on here, it's no wonder he has the desire to race elsewhere. I suggest we give him some slack and let him show you his talent. Probably in a few years, when he's more adult minded, perhaps his attitude will change and he will want to ride for his homeland. Until then, lets enjoy watching him and see how he progresses in the competitive world of Elite League racing, rather than jump on him, just because someone didn't like what he said -
Birmingham V Lakeside April 2 El (a)
g13webb replied to Vincent Vega's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
That's a bit harsh! so easy to be judgemental when on the outside. It has been so obvious the financial implication has dictated the team selection and for that reason, one has to feel for the Brummie team and fans. Not everyone can be winners, and Birmingham are no alone, in that they will not win the league. Their fans will appreciate that, but the pill that is harder to swallow, is when there is no effort from the team. when that happens you have to question your own indulgence. I sincerely hope Birmingham survive these trouble times... -
As with all rules there should no doubt in any one minds what is right and what is wrong. By publicising the draft list, would eliminate any issues regarding replacement draft riders and everyone would know the correct procedure. Keeping the list a secret, enables certain people to flaunt the rules. I am certain the people in power, do this deliberately to create loopholes for those who wish to seek them. It's like this new rule enabling guests to be used for riders 1 to 5. This is alright providing all the promoters are genuine people, who put the sport first. But how long will it be before we see the rule abused and replacement riders are used as guest on a horses for courses basis. It is because of this situation people will look at all guests and wonder if this rule is being abused or what........ Not a good rule to generate interest into the sport, but a brilliant one for those looking to abuse the system..........

As an outsider, I really feel for you Bees fans. If this scenario was happening at Lynn it would seriously question my indulgence into the sport. Here we are, wanting to appeal to all and sundry to promote to bigger gates, and the two parties involved are too wrapped up in petty argument as to whom s to blame, forgetting the main reason why we go to watch the sport. I know we all need to support our club, but it has to be both ways. Our support needs to be appreciated and not just looked at . as money coming through the turnstiles. Not wanting to proportion blame, but the main parties involved here haven't put much emphasis into the importance of the spectators up to now. Let hope, this lull in proceedings, will allows the two main parties to get their act together, and concentrate all their efforts in putting on meetings us supporters want to see, and hope it's not too late to rekindle the damage that has undoubtedly been done.

It was interesting reading the account of Sunday's fiasco in the current issue of the SS by Paul Burbidge. Shambolic, Black Sunday was about right. I applauded his direct unbiased opinion. What a pity he is not a Promoter. The BSPA could do with some people like him, who tells it like it is. Appreciated his honesty...... I thought he was a Manager.........

New Rule On Guest Riders?
g13webb replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Plus the thought of some low average heat leader guesting for an inflated 2nd string, the mind boggles of all the doors opening for deception. Sometime I think rules are purposely included for their deception values. I've always been of the impression, rules are included before looking at all the implications........ -
I remember the time so well. My first Speedway was back in the 50s. My dad, always a motorcycling nut, used to travel the 50 odd miles to Norwich most Saturdays to see the then Stars in action. The impression it made in my tender years was immense. The crowds, the noise, the excitement was like nothing I had ever seen. Unfortunately the venue closed, with it, went all the enthusiasm we had. The following years I remember, we regularly went to scrambles to see top riders like Dave Bickers, Arthur Lampkin, Jeff Smith, Brian Stonebridge, and Andy Lee. There were big crowds most weekends but we didn’t get that stadium effort we got from speedway. We watched in admiration rather than with excitement. Always acknowledging their skill and ability. In 1965 Kings Lynn opened its doors for the first time, taking over the Stars mantel from Norwich. Although a little bit older, (But no wiser) I was one of the first through the doors to witness Terry Betts win that first meeting. The following Year Lynn joined the league. 1966, was a wonderful time, we had more fun than you could imagine… (That’s another story) This was the year, the first time I went to Coventry Speedway. Oh what a place. It was without doubt the best Speedway venue I had ever seen. Although, there in plenty of time, we had to walk a mile to the track. There were cars everywhere. The place was packed. Fan jostling for a better viewing wanting to see who won the Brandonapolis. This was the day the speedway bug took hold and it’s been there ever since. Usually we visited Brandon 3 times a year, when Lynn played them away, the Brandonapolis and the British Final. I always regarded Coventry as the home of British Speedway. The track had everything. Plenty of places to sit in the Grandstands, plenty of Food and drinks, plenty of space, but best of all was a wonderful race track. I’ve seen some magic meetings there and all the stars you mentioned. The standout meetings for me were mostly British Finals, as when Peter Collins, Michael Lee and Kenny Carter won spring to mind, but I remember getting really excited when Terry Betts came second one year. Wonderful memories, fantastic enjoyment, what a pity things had to change. I don’t believe these times will ever come back, and feel well privileged to have been part of it all. I now use the forum for added enjoyment. The majority of posters here are a lot younger than myself, and therefore missed the Magic of those wonderful times. But I am in no doubt, had they had seen them they would have been enthralled as much we were. No doubt I will be shot down as well………….

That will be everyone choice soon unless the crowds pick up.
