Not trying to deviate from the tragic happenings and demise of Birmingham Speedway, I can understand Rob's point of view in that, regards to the points that the Stars have had too lose. When Kings Lynn went away and won 30-60, it was a terrific achievement by all the team . Other teams have since rode at Perry Bar and not achieved that success that Lynn did. But now, like Rob said it seems abit unfair that those scores have been removed from the league fixtures. Don't for one moment think, Rob meant any malaise in his comments, and was only referring to only those instances. Rob is as devastated as anyone that Birmingham Speedway have folded. Please don't make this into something it's not................

Poole Pirates Vs Kings Lynn Stars 23/7/2014
g13webb replied to Shaleshifter's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Could this be a 'Play-off' rehearsal, If so are the teams going to show all their hands. Will this have a bearing on the league., and who will be eventual champions. So many questions but I don't think there will be many answers from this meeting. Two cracking sides that should serve up a feast of close racing. Hoping the track is up to scratch, when the result could then go either way. What, to me, is so pleasing, is that now we can go to places like Wimbourn Road and be competitive. Gone are the days, when we were just cannon fodder ... -
How Have Riders Found The New Format
g13webb replied to Phil The Ace's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Appreciate the time and effort you have obviously put in, to get this information. . Makes interesting reading..... -
When I've made mistakes I am the first to admit it. But I haven't made a mistake here, It's just other people putting specifics into the wrong contexts. I did say that had Robert beaten Simon Lambert we would have won all three points. That's not proportioning blame, that was a fact. The same applies with Kenneth E/F or Prosing's. Both of those instances are fact and any blame should be proportional. So what I said was not wrong........... I agree. We differ tremendously. In my opinion, as soon as Robert Lambert was included into the full Stars team the kid gloves come off. he was selected on merit and is more than capable of holding his own in that class of riding. He has been riding against men for more than 3 yrs. According to you, I am of the impression, we can look at Robert ride, we can praise him for doing well, but we mustn't say anything against him as he might be offended. Is that what you mean? I'll remember, I'm not allowed to comment in the future. You keep going on about his 3 pts average as though that's a measure of his ability. At the start of the season, he did not have a Elite CMS and therefore is was given an assessment figure of 3. He was obviously far better than that, thus being one of the reasons Rob Lyon wanted him in the team proper. To give you some idea of how low a 3 average is. of all the 70 odd riders competing in the Elite league only a handful is on less than 3. and that's scrapping the barrel. You may not be aware, but this year it is far easier for lesser riders to achieve a high match average then ever before, so unlike the times of previous top stars, ( i.e., Lee Woffy Ward ) they had to race top men all the time. This year is probably the best time ever to start out on the road to stardom . I just hope Robert can withstand the pressure and grabs this opportunity with both hands to project him into the heights of greatness he is destined for... I love what you said about me and winning at all costs. That proves you have me all wrong.. I use to be the worlds worst loser. Hated it. Bug me for days. Wouldn't talk to anyone, wouldn't except it. The world's worst. That was until I started playing Golf. Then everything was put into a different prospective. Now when I lose, I can except that I did my best and was beaten by a better player. Same with speedway, it's irrelevant whether we win or lose. But I can't except lack of application.... Do hope I have explained myself......

Again, I am not anti Robert, and did not hold him solely responsible for dropping a home point against Leicester. He is a member of the team and therefore he must take responsibility like everyone else. You say I didn't mention any of the other issues before, But going back (My Post No50) I actually agreed with the post from (Star Fever No 43) that sums everything up. (Highlighted comment) ; Are you for real? probably related to him, maybe, That comment is ridiculous . When he competes in a man's world, A team environment he has to take that responsibility, the same as all the other members. There is no protection...... You can't carry anyone just because he is 16. He has to stand up and be counted. He learns as he get experience. If he's not ready, then he rides in a lower league. Of cause winning and losing has it's pressures, and like all other members, he must shoulder some of the blame. That's part and parcel . That bit about only scoring 3 pts. If he was only capable of scoring three points he wouldn't be in the side. He would be of little use to Lynn Stars or to himself. The old saying about ' Cant stick the heat get out of the kitchen' applies here. You need to wake up. Robert is far better rider than you portray (3 pts), and doesn't want you protecting him from the real world. It's time them kid gloves come off..........

Whow:: To me, an opinion is to say what you think. When someone does good, I'm the first to agree and give praise . Likewise when I see something I disagree with, I also say. Just because some people want blow sunshine up people ar-es all the time, and don't speak out in the times when don't so good, you then undermine the times when you give praise. So yes I do praise Robert up when he performs well, and yes I do voice an opinion when I think he could do better. That to me is not wrong.... I'm am not anti Robert, far from it. I'm one of his biggest supporters. but it doesn't blind me when he is subdued. I'd pay good money just to see him ride. At times he's unbelievable, some of his riding is sublime and his passing can be awesome. For a 16 yr old, he's a very special indeed. But that's the problem. Having witness the special talents of Michael Lee and Darcy Ward when starting out, whether they were first or last you could see the special talent oozing out of them in every race. Where Robert is concerned, some races you can see it oozing out, and others its not. and that's disappointing. It's as if he's just going through the motions You say he set a target of 4/5 pts at the start of the season. To me that's way too low. He is far better than that. Just beating this years FTR would give him a better average than that . Bearing in mind the new heat format giving him protection of riders who he races against, he is more than capable of 6/7 pts with ease, probably even closer to 8. Could it be he's not aiming high enough. I don't know, but rest assured if he was only getting 4/5's Rob would be worried sick going into the play-offs, that's for sure....... [ Gordon Bennett] I have never blamed just Robert for the reason we dropped a point, that's all in your mind. What I said was when the team is up against it everyone has to stand up and be counted. and that includes a 16yr old. I'm sure if you asked Robert, he wouldn't be happy only scoring 6 pts. I did blame all those things you mentioned for the reasons we dropped a point, But then again you only read what to want to.
-
But we are not talking about Kerr,Blackbird,Garrity and Worrall, who are all at the top of the FTR list, In Simon Lamberts case, we're talking about a rider who is way down (20th, when I last looked). in the lower regions of the list. I imagine he and Leicester, went home Saturday well chuffed, having taken a point from us at home...... When he does well I'm to first to praise him, but also I say, when he is not so good.
-
The Elite league is not just about Robert Lambert, its about teams first than riders second. As a member of a team he would be expected to perform to a certain standard. All I said was he was expected to beat other second strings and FTR. Your point about him beating noticeable scalps merely emphasises that point. Footnote: Had he have just beaten Simon Lambert last night we would have scored all three points. Yeah I know there are others in the team who could have scored that extra point, But when the chips are down they all need to step up to the mark, and that includes a 16 year old...

Definitely Bikes. Bikes are much more powerful and rev far more than they once.did The art of speedway riding now is to keep on the gas. The power comes from the revving the engine, Years ago it was much more bottom end torque.. Totally different technique. The riding skill then was more pronounced and the bikes were less powerful. Now its the other way round.
-
I know what you are saying and I'm not forgetting the boy is only 16. We are talking about Robert being the next Michael Lee or Darcy Ward. He is that good. So riding against FTR and second strings should be bread and butter to someone of his ability. Mind you, I've always thought Simon Stead rides Lynn well, so no disgrace to be beaten by him.. But Simon Lambert, he is not in the same league as Robert and to be beaten by him, to me , is not acceptable. Reflexes of a 16 year old should be razor sharp. and gating shouldn't be an issue. When he does gate, he goes exceptionally quick. Last night he had 4 races and gated once. If he cant win heat 4 he stands even less of a chance in heat 6 when up against the opposition 's top riders, when losing is more acceptable. I'm sorry to appear harsh, but having witness the rise of both the fore mentioned two I expected a more prolific improvement from young Robert, to that which we have seen. I so want him to do well and reach the very top, but right now, I am of mixed thoughts..........

Star fever ( post 43) sums it up pretty well. Obviously disappointed to lose a point, but Leicester deserved one for the spirit they showed. Feel we are going through the motions thinking we are better than we are. I thought as the season progressed, so would our young riders, and come the business end they would be far more confident and accomplished. But they seem to have stagnated.. Our top 3 was again, our saviour last night, with Niels and Kenneth showing how its done. Porsing 2nd bike was so slow, and our FTR riders are not so dominant anymore. Robert Lambert continues to deceive. Ht 4 should be nailed on for him, riding against people he should beat , but inevitably he sleeps at the gate and trials in last. Every meeting the same. His win in ht 8 was a saving grace but he should be better than that by now. Simon Lambert is becoming a resident performer here at Saddlebow Road, and last night was the best he's been. To score paid 9 was a exceptional achievement, but he shouldn't be beating people like Kerr, Posing or Rob Lambert like he did... Had we performed like that in the play-offs we'd we easy pickings for any team. We have to get back to them winning ways where teams like Leicester should have been brushed aside with ease. Not sure if there is arrogance or just nonchalance, but we need to get back to the determination we had at the start of the campaign, and treat every race with a must win attitude. When you add up all the points we have dropped through, Falls, and EF in the last 3 meeting is alarming...... We cant afford to give the opposition such an advantage.. It makes the job so much harder......
-
I reckon you're still on a high from the weekend in Cardiff. No-way will Simon Lambert get 8 pts against our top FTR's He should get 1 when riding with his partner, but no way will he beat either of our second strings. So expect him too struggle big time.......... I rate Doyle highly and expect him to score well. All the rest are capable of winning races but can they do it consistently. I reckon they have one race win each, at most. I hope for a exciting meeting with no reoccurrence of the injury that Kenneth suffered last time. We should have more than enough strength to secure a comfortable home win.. Can't wait.......... Plus dying to see all the clowns in PINK attire ............ Should be worth the admission fee alone......

Kings Lynn Stars Vs Coventry Bees (wed 2nd July 2014)
g13webb replied to g13webb's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Yes, according to the copy of the ref scorecard available from the website, it was as program with James Sarjeant riding in Yellow . Sorted..... 4 to 1 -
Watching Jason Doyle and some of the others top riders on Monday's tele program, going flat out down the back straight and into the corners full belt is part of the attraction of the sport. If some riders find that difficult then that's unfortunate and should probably pack up. Doyle proved beyond doubt the track is safe and not dangerous. Wolves Monmore Green Track is of similar shape, with longer straights and tight corners, and that's regarded as one of the best around. I've seen some brilliant races there. Young and inexperience riders could find these tight corners too technical and struggle. So it would be wrong to blame everything just on the shape of the track. There are a lot of attribute to a good track beside the shape. Camber, Topping and Preparation are just three areas, that are just as important. From my prospective, there are far more crashes caused through rider error than any those caused by the shape of the track........................
-
I won't except the track is dangerous. Looking at the shape it reminds me of Monmore Green, in both have long straights and sharp corners. Appreciate there more room on the bends and probably the camber is different at Wolves, but they're not a million miles apart. Addressing them issues is not the end of the world. With the comments about the footprint could have been different, and yes, in a ideal world and hindsight the perfect venue could have been created. Unfortunately life's not like that. We sometimes have to cut the material to suit the cloth. A big statement from Chris Louis on Monday spoke about the shale topping and in that it didn't bind together, and breaks up more easily than was normal. Could this be the real issues of track safety rather then the shape. Having witnessed Lynn win there earlier in the season I thought it was a nice setup and one that could only get better. As that meeting went on so the track started to cut up them. That was nothing to do with the shape. I feel it is wrong that Hemsley getting pillared by all and sundry, just because he doesn't jump to people suggestions. I am in no doubt the problems will be addressed given enough time.
-
Well unlike you, I appreciated someone who has got off his arse to create a Speedway venue from nothing. The trouble with this world, especially this country, is there are always those too willing to rubbish them sort of people. So what if the track is the wrong shape, So what if the corners are too sharp, all these things can be rectified when the funds are available, I'm sure he wants the track to be as good as possible.. Obviously the venue has been certified and considered safe to ride and no doubt has a certificate to prove this. A lot of the accidents last night were cased through bad riding, and not necessary down to the track. I didn't see many experienced riders fall, so it not that bad as you paint it. Exuberance of youth is not always beneficial. David Helmsley deserves respect for what he has done, sadly I don't hold your comments in a similar light...
-
Speedway in this country is on it's knees, Here we have someone who has done wonderfully well to create a new track for the people of Leicester, and all we are getting is moaning and negative comments. I'm sure the people of Leicester are over the moon considering they have been without a track for 20 years. Give the man a break. Sure there are a few teething problems, but its not the end of the world. I'm sure he is aware of the issues without everyone going on and on and on.. I believe he has done exceptionally well in what he has achieved so far, and what I watched last night wasn't that bad. I seen worse meetings then that from well established venues... So rather then knock him down, give him some praise. The sport needs more people like David Helmsley......

We, and I use that term lightly, have at last recognised, just how good the SGP at Cardiff really is. It is without doubt the best speedway meeting of the year in this country, and probably the best in the world as well. So instead of being appreciative of that fact, we hear posters now suggesting we change it in so much as we try to milk the product thus diluting its appeal. The reason Cardiff is so special is because of the occasion encompasses everybody, from Fans to Shop keepers, from Pubs to Local people, from Police to Security guards, everyone is wrapped into the atmosphere of speedway entertainment. Fans come from the all four corners of the country just to attend. They spend a fortune just to be part of the weekend. They do that because it is that special and doesn't happen that often. I have heard attendance figures branded about from 45 to 50K . As no official announcement is declared, its difficult to be precise. But it is not difficult to see the priority that BSI have put towards the presentation to make it such a rip roaring success it has become. I cant believe they would reprecate that if asked and would surely take away some of the glamour if they were to run more meetings So instead of posters coming up with ideas for change , surely it would be a better idea, to concentrate their thoughts on all the problems associated with our Bread and Butter League racing, rather then, try to mend sometime that is not broken.

If people want to moan they will always find something that wasn't right. Some people are like that. To me, our family had a fantastic weekend. truly brilliant. Everything was amazing, The City, The Culture, The People, The Food, The Hotels, The Place, The Atmosphere, The Excitement, The Stadium, The Presentation, The Buzz. it was all simply amazing. Made me feel proud to be British...... The Speedway was fitting of a World Championship. Would have liked to seen Woffy win but Greg was the next best thing. Can't wait till 2015......... BSI: was totally impressed, that that's takes some doing...... Presentation simply awesome.......... Don't ever anyone tell me Wembley was better..

What a talent. terrific potential
