Swc Event 1 King's Lynn 26/07/14

There was nothing wrong with the track, it was perfect. Smooth, consistent, safe , It wasn't even Dusty in the hot weather, a perfect place to race. Not one rider voiced an adverse comment . Yet you, sitting at home, telling all and sundry, the track was rubbish. When I cant go to meeting, and have to watch them on the tele, all I can see is 4 riders going round a track. There is no atmosphere, no excitement, no banter, just four riders on the tele. It is be wrong to always blame the track when riders don't perform as you would have liked them too, probably you need to look at other aspects of the meeting as well before making these acquisations Probably, next time you might decide to go to these meeting and enjoy it like all the others that went., Joining in with the celebrations, waving the British flags and cheering on the home team.. or you might just stay at home and moan about it...... It was a Smashing Day -

Contrary to the majority on here, I thoroughly enjoyed the meeting last night and was well pleased with the spectacle than was put on. Remembering it was being beamed all over Europe, I thought the people who worked to put the show on did a wonderful job. Went early, but couldn't believe the queues when we arrived at 4.30. They were nearly into St Germans. It seemed everyone had a similar idea. There were no hassle. we got a good vantage point and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and the banter. The weather was good, the crowd was boisterous and the racing was fast and furious. The track consistence and safe. People on here have moaned about the racing, but to me it was OK. When you have big meetings with big riders, on fast bikes, you don't see many classic races . 2, 3, possibly 5 if your lucky. These class of riders don't make many mistakes The racing was fast, close and exciting, but the noise and atmosphere made it even better. I always raved about the Wembley finals, but then there were only a few races that was memorable. the rest were boring strung out affairs from the gate. It was the occasion that made it better than it was. So when looking back to last night . I was well pleased I made the effort to attend, unlike some who could be bothered. To all those who worked hard to make last night possible , I say well done . It showed the world , we can organise and promote a decent meeting with a big crowd. England winning was the icing on the cake. -

If each team are wasting that amount of money dressing up for a few meetings, just imagine how much cheaper the tickets could have been......... Probably then, all those posters who have said they're not going might have been persuaded.... -
Swc King's Lynn Traffic Problems

Why would you end up in a ditch. Don't your lights work???? The disruption is typical of the organisation of the local council. Biggest day of the local Speedway calendar and they cant even open the roads to assist the many motorist trying to locate the venue. All they are interested in is the speeding fines............. -

I'm not a Rosco lover. He tries to be a nice man but does all his washing in public. Wasn't that long ago he was slating Stead when riding for Swindon, now he want he to be England's saviour . An England manager should more have dignity than that. Pity Scotty Nicholls not riding any more, with him in the side we could have won this today. As it is we are still relying too much on Woffy to lead the way. Bomber always goes well here. If Stead gates he will score points. Main concern is King. Although he tries hard, has never sit the world alight, especially round NA, only recently Lambert came from way back to beat him comfortable. Thinking along the lines of 'Horses for Courses' policy, I'm sure there are a few riders that could 've filled that space not counting Cookie..., -
Watching Jason Doyle and some of the others top riders on Monday's tele program, going flat out down the back straight and into the corners full belt is part of the attraction of the sport. If some riders find that difficult then that's unfortunate and should probably pack up. Doyle proved beyond doubt the track is safe and not dangerous. Wolves Monmore Green Track is of similar shape, with longer straights and tight corners, and that's regarded as one of the best around. I've seen some brilliant races there. Young and inexperience riders could find these tight corners too technical and struggle. So it would be wrong to blame everything just on the shape of the track. There are a lot of attribute to a good track beside the shape. Camber, Topping and Preparation are just three areas, that are just as important. From my prospective, there are far more crashes caused through rider error than any those caused by the shape of the track........................

We, and I use that term lightly, have at last recognised, just how good the SGP at Cardiff really is. It is without doubt the best speedway meeting of the year in this country, and probably the best in the world as well. So instead of being appreciative of that fact, we hear posters now suggesting we change it in so much as we try to milk the product thus diluting its appeal. The reason Cardiff is so special is because of the occasion encompasses everybody, from Fans to Shop keepers, from Pubs to Local people, from Police to Security guards, everyone is wrapped into the atmosphere of speedway entertainment. Fans come from the all four corners of the country just to attend. They spend a fortune just to be part of the weekend. They do that because it is that special and doesn't happen that often. I have heard attendance figures branded about from 45 to 50K . As no official announcement is declared, its difficult to be precise. But it is not difficult to see the priority that BSI have put towards the presentation to make it such a rip roaring success it has become. I cant believe they would reprecate that if asked and would surely take away some of the glamour if they were to run more meetings So instead of posters coming up with ideas for change , surely it would be a better idea, to concentrate their thoughts on all the problems associated with our Bread and Butter League racing, rather then, try to mend sometime that is not broken.

If people want to moan they will always find something that wasn't right. Some people are like that. To me, our family had a fantastic weekend. truly brilliant. Everything was amazing, The City, The Culture, The People, The Food, The Hotels, The Place, The Atmosphere, The Excitement, The Stadium, The Presentation, The Buzz. it was all simply amazing. Made me feel proud to be British...... The Speedway was fitting of a World Championship. Would have liked to seen Woffy win but Greg was the next best thing. Can't wait till 2015......... BSI: was totally impressed, that that's takes some doing...... Presentation simply awesome.......... Don't ever anyone tell me Wembley was better..

There's nothing wrong with the scoring and format. It is unusual for a SGP rider to go through the card as Batch did at the weekend. But fair do's he did exceptionally well, but you cant change the system because in this instants the top scorer didn't win. I think the last three heats are the best races in every Grand Prix. It bring back the cut and thrust of the sudden death of the olde 'Wembley One Off's' I say, leave well alone................ It's not broken and doesn't need fixing. -
Like you I have been watching speedway a long time. I have seen many top riders performing unbelievable feats. Also, I have been to many meeting when lesser riders have performed really well. Both excite me. Just because the names on the board are that of top riders, doesn't necessarily mean the racing will be of top quality racing.... or VFM
-
So the sport is to be held to ransom because these two wont change their ideas... Brilliant !!!!
-
I'm under no illusions as to the state of this sport, so yes I can smell the coffee, but I can also see the bigger picture. You seem to live with thoughts of granular of where this country stands in the Speedway ratings of importance. You question the dilation of quality riders, as if we have a choice, but the fact remains we cannot afford to compete with countries like Poland Denmark and Sweden, and the sooner all the supporter realise this the better. The biggest issue with this sport is finance. Riders pay big monies for quality equipment, Promoters have to meets the riders high costs, and to do that the fans have to pay through the nose. All them are facts. There is no way the promotions can reduce the admissions, all they can do, is reduce the cost of the riders. That where the FTR system comes in. So to answer one of your points, is there a dilution of top quality riders, then YES, but not the quality of entertainment. You moan about the number of meetings using Guests and RR, Unfortunately this will always happen until this country comes into line with other countries and run meetings on a strict day schedule. Until that time we have no choice but to fill in the spaces with whoever, and hope the public wont mind. To me, running Elite League fixtures at the weekend is a No-Go............ but then again I'm not a Promoter.........
-
The fact that I've been going and supporting Lynn for more years than I care to remember should answer your query. For me, being top of the league is a novelty
-
Depends what you refer to as 'Product.' My understanding of the 'Product' is entertainment and exciting racing. So yes quiet sure. The racing this years has been far more competitive, and the meetings far closer than have in previous years. If on the other hand you refer to the 'Product' as the number of top quality riders, than I would obviously have a different opinion. But then I wouldn't be going anyway....... and satisfy my cravings by only watching SGP on the box..... If I had to choice between going to Lynn each meeting or watching Grand Prix on the tele, Lynn would win everytime......
-
All the major issues surrounding this sport are financial. Introducing the FTR scheme was done as a cost saving idea, without necessarily weakening the product. It also gave more opportunity to the young British riders to progress at a much faster rate. Bit like a double whammy, to benefit this sport. The one big problem is that some supporters are only looking as far as their noses. Just because, we now have more lesser riders, they expect the product to be cheaper. The whole idea was to make the promotion more affordable so there are less clubs finding it difficult to survive. This is not a thriving enterprise, more of a struggle and any chance of cutting costs, both to Promoters and Fans has to be initiated. Probably in your eyes the product is not as good as before, but to me, the entertainment hasn't changed and is as good as it's always been. . I believe there have been many good ideas posted on here, and no doubt more changes will to be made. What we mustn't do is give up ........
-
This problem should have been sorted long ago. I appreciate the issues with greyhound landlords, but surely a compromise could be reached. After all, the landlords wouldn't want to lose the out on the rent implications. I believe there are quite a few problems with the way our sport is governed but racing every night of the week is the biggest one. The other major countries run on specific days and we have to fall in line. We are forever moaning about the lack of top riders over here. If we get the schedule sorted, more riders would come on board......
-
Cant believe all this rubbish being posted on here. and the opinions of some. I don't hate Woffy, but his behaviour has to be looked at sensibly. No, he didn't break any rules, No, it didn't gain him an advantage, but it could be seen to set a precedent of future meetings. Had the referee been strong enough, he could have taken control of the situation and ordered the riders back to the pits, end of story. We want this sport to prosper, to appeal to new supporters. We want the meetings to flow, with little or no holdups. What we don't want is riders going to the start area prior to an important race to do preparation work . Can you imagine the issues if this was done at a SGP final. No of cause not.... This has to be stopped now.... Whether you saw no wrong in what Woffy was doing, it has no place in our struggling sport.
-
I found the whole episode rather bizarre that the riders were allowed to do such thing. The referee was shown to be weak in that he didn't stop the ridiculous behaviour. After last night meeting, all riders will now bring a Vibrating Plate to the meeting so they can prepare their start position. Whatever next, A wheelbarrow of extra muck and a shovel?? I can remember a meeting, when come the final Michael Lee parked his bike on the side of the track, just so he could prepare his piece of track at the gate and the ref wanted to disqualify him. There was up-roar. eventually the ref relented on the agreement that the trackman regraded the start so be fair to all riders. I thought at the time it was because the referee had an issue with Lee, but it was said the riders must have hold of the bike at all times, hence the usual plodding and stamping with the feet..... Has that rules gone as well........or was that just someone's interpretation........
-
I feel it's such a shame that, after probably the best Grand Prix for some time, people are still talking about Pedersen then the actual racing. Some of the heats were from the top drawer. So many overtakes in one meeting to name . a truly memorable meeting when the winner could have been one of half a dozen riders. Cant remember when so many riders were on good points. Usually 8pts with a win would get you to the semi's but this one you needed more. Pleased that Bomber got his first race win of the year, also Kenneth Bjerre is showing signs of back to form, At last Batchelor comes to the party, and Woffy was a deserved winner. Why can't all SGP's be like this. Brilliant.

What odds for Pedersen to win, Hancock in the final....... Gaters paradise.... -
Feel sad to hear the passing of Simmo, but also honoured to have had the privileged of knowing him. The years he spent at Lynn provided wonderful memories and the excitement created with the battles with Bettsy for being the No1 will never be forgotten.. Simmo was everything a rider could be, Smart, Intelligent, Sharp, Smooth, Ladies Man, Leader, Mechanic, even a Rogue at times. He was undoubtedly, in a class of his own and lived life to the full.... RIP Simmo....

Phil, don't knock the RUTS, without them there would've been no overtaking at all. I know they are dangerous, but at least they provided some form of processional change of order.. At meetings like this, I feel for writers like yourself, whom are all expected to give a positive angle on it. but after watching this rubbish, fend or please, I would have to tell it like it was.......
-
Was the shape of the track better, Was there overtaking in most races. It obviously wasn't a gate and go exercise, where the first man out always won, regardless of what part of the track he used. If so, next time we will have to get Finnish TV. Seriously though, that was really bad. As the Showpiece of our sport, the top production for attracting new fans, this was a disgrace and done more harm to the ordinary people's perception of speedway than not having a showpiece at all.
