  1. I think Peterborough is too strong not to qualify for the play-offs. Good riders, good track, big home advantage, what's not to like about the Panthers. Can see the bookies odds against them being very good...
  2. Scotty may be in the twilight of his career, but could still be a valuable asset to any club. He probably wont put his life on the line anymore, (who could blame him) but he's still capable of winning important races. His experience and knowledge in the pits could be massive to his fellow riders, and his interpersonal skills with the fans should not be forgotten. He may not be a No 1 anymore but make no mistake, he can still be a decent heat leader.... We seem to be desperately short in that department......
  3. You clearly don't see this that situation is totally of Kings Lynn's making... We are now in the middle of February and still waiting for the team to be announced. I don't get this crap about more media exposure, are they saying the Club has to announce a rider to get any exposure? What a daft philosophy. Any PR officer worth his salt, could make a habit of producing a article every week purposely to keep the team in the news . The announcement of Ty Procter was lost in most media outlets, over shadowed by the Tatum and Pearson show, which was what most medias ran. The release of the news of Proctor signing would have had more impact had it been released months back. Now people are fed up waiting..... But as usual the real fans are of little importance.
  4. The logic being, Riss was far better rider than Kerr and MPT was way better than Andersen. Without those two replacements we would have struggled. This year, it is expected all four riders will be in the same team..... Looking at the announced teams in this Premier league, All of them have 4 capable heat leaders, each have 3 decent top riders. At Lynn we even struggle to name our 2nd heat leader. Our team is made up with 1 top rider, 5 second strings, and a reserve. For those not convinced try making a comparison, man to man with Wolves side. Apart from Robert we fall way short in every position... We would struggle to win the second division... You can look at it any way you like, but this is not good......
  5. Yes, we my have finished top of the league but many things fell our way. The most telling factor was Kerr and Andersen got injured and were fortunate with excellent replacements. We must also remember that other teams suffered terribly with injuries which made our results look real good. We also had the advantage of playing weaker sides ( Belle Vue) when their star men were missing. All factors that will not happen every year. We had waited years for our chance of success but even then we blew it big time. Without doubt our (projected) team will be the weakest by some margin and any other outlook is pure optimism.
  6. IF, the team turns out to be the one we all fear, our chances of success will be totally dependant on Robert Lambert. Yes he may have the ability to beat everybody, BUT, if he were to have a bad meeting, a fall, an E/F or he was unavailable, we would be up the creek without a paddle. At home, it might be possible to lose retaining some distinction for effort , but if it was an away meeting it would be embarrassing. Nothing does more harm to this sport than watching easy meetings where the teams are so one sided... When looking at the make-up of the other teams, if we don't acquire a back-up for Robert we can forget it....
  7. I except your post as a genuine and will answer in the same way. From a die hard speedway fan for more years I care to remember, we have always been brought up knowing the team has been announced before Christmas. Many times we have specially arranged 'Supporter's Meeting' purely to hear these announced teams. Usually we were among the first to know, but that was when son Jonathon was on board and the connection with the fans was important. Now the fans are forgotten and appear the last to know. Them days when were kept informed, we could take part in discussions, we could make predictions, we could have some banter with other fans, we could make plans for the coming season, in fact we could do all the things that other teams and fans from their privilege position. AS you so rightly say, most of us believe we know the team, but that only makes the situation regarding the club even worse. Every way you look at it, projects a club that don't give a toss for its fans and are more concerned that media exposure benefits the club rather than be informative to their supporters.. The team, we all imagine we know, is not good enough to drip feed to the media on an individual basis, the optimum would be to announce the riders as a proven squad, more a result of the total sum is far more effective than each individuals. In my book, the connection with the fans is more important than the fitness program the riders are going through. WE saw last year, when the riders showed their alertness making brilliant starts the Refs were constantly putting the light on believing it be an unsatisfactory start, making the program less beneficial. The fan base is the bread and butter of any club, but at Kings Lynn Speedway we are an inconvenience. At a time when the sport needs all the help it can get, you cant blame the fans for staying away when we are treated with so much contempt...
  8. The whole secret philosophy is so offensive to their supporters integrity. To Pi55 someone off, who has supported them for 50odd years takes some doing, but they seem to make a habit of it. As far as I'm concerned, the main reason the fans don't go any more is in respect in the way they are treated.. They say you reap what you sow...
  9. All those media outlets and the fans are told nothing. That just illustrates the shear incompetence of the Promotions of Lynn Speedway.... Back in time, before we had all these media outlets, we knew far more news then we do now... and that takes a bit of believing...
  10. Seems there a few more posters like me who question the shambolic way the fans of Lynn are treated. If, as it seems the case that the team is assembled and training together, what benefits are gained by keeping the fans in the dark..
  11. Robbing Peter to pay Paul is not the right way to do things !!! If that's true, I think Buster should release a book called: 'How to Pi55 everybody off, with fingers in too many pies'
  12. Firstly, can I say it doesn't bother me in the slightest, if , when or who, makes the Lynn team this year, but I find in quite amusing, the only people who are supporting the idea of late announcements are the Kings Lynn fans themselves. I would have thought they would have been the ones who would be more concerned, not knowing their team. Talk about being laid-back.... Reading the posts in this forum the majority of comments that are aghast of this behaviour are from other teams who know their squad already…. I honestly cant see any positives in this way what's so ever. If the fans have been ignored by the promoter all through the winter months, why should they bother in turning up when it suit them....
  13. I was told by delaying the team announcement it creates added interest, It my mind it does exactly the opposite, fans get fed up waiting and lose interest altogether...
  14. The last thing any speedway club would relish is trying to compete against live matches on the telly. Not yet knowing the schedule of the TV meetings it would be a no brainer to try and run your home meetings when there are live matches screened on the Monday Night Match..... When the numbers are the life line of many clubs, this would have disastrous consequences…..
  15. Yet again you are judging a comment that was said in jest. You, probably more than most typifies a lot of Stars posters on here where the comment is judged on who said it rather than what was said. My post never said 'anybody said anything' purely your interpretation, but as usual your adverse comments are directed to me...
  16. Steady, you will soon be accused of moaning...… you know we aren't allowed to voice an adverse opinions....
  17. Changing Bomber average because of Rye House closure , merely illustrates the short sightedness of the BSPA. If the powers are saying his average was wrong, than how was it correct that Poole were able to sign him on that same average. Are they now saying that Poole were wrong to sign him on a average that was false?. Was he an illegal rider last year when he beat Doyle in that semi final? NO, of course he wasn't, and his averages should reflect that. Seems to me the BSPA have wasted valuable time creating a situation that was not important, when that time could have been spent on something far more valuable, especially when there is so much wrong with this sport... Why should the riders have their CMA adjusted just because the club folded. They rode the races, they got paid for their efforts, and their results should be noted...….
  18. If you believe that, you'll believe anything...….
  19. To me, one of the main reason the sport has lost the wide appeal it once enjoyed, is the stereo type rules implemented to eliminates the unexpected from happening. Does it matter if a lesser rider anticipates the start, it makes for better racing, Years ago we had riders pushing the tapes, we had riders trying to out think the ref, we had the ref doing his best to catch the riders moving back, it all added to the occasion. All we get now is stereo type races where riders are not allowed to move or show any initiatives. Only allowing for the best riders to win..... Once, every race had an angle to it , each could offer a surprise when an unexpected rider could win... Why do we need strict rules on gate positions, why not let the team choice who rides where, Where have all the character gone??? Once upon a time every team had a showman, a rider or manager who the fans cold relate with. Now we have nothing, just robotic riders going round and round, not even bothered if they win or not... They mustn't do this , they mustn't do that, its little wonder the sport is dying...
  20. Oh , I am so sorry for having an opinion. but so far the management has done nothing to be pleased about. Unlike some, I speak as I find, when I feel things are wrong I speak out, the same when I feel the situation deserves credit, then I am the first to give it. Generalisation is usually a fault to those who want to imagine a situation, and you sure fit that bill. Having experienced most of the highs at Kings Lynn speedway, I am always aware when things aren't that good . Probably you should be more astute before you go judging people.
  21. Back in the early days at Lynn the racing was always enjoyable. We never won much, but we could just about hold our own at home. The average gate was around 5K and the atmosphere was amazing. I agree there were some processional races and some were well spaced out, but most races would have a angle to then that made them important. Our strength was usually our heat leaders, who would have to pull the rabbit out of the bag to attain a win. But it was so important not to lose... After the meeting the environment moved to the bars where riders mixed with fans drinking way into the night... How things have changed..... Back then the sport was priced at a cost the fans could afford, the VFM was never questioned, and it was always night out at a weekend . For our sport to stand any sort of chance of surviving, we have to re-create along those lines. ( minus the late drinking)
  22. Spot on Sidney. I agree with what you say about fans picking ad choosing their matches, No one will want to watch a processional meeting with a team that has no chance of success. The novelty will soon wear off...... 1, Exactly, that was the reason they made his announcement. 2, This sport and this club need all the positives it can get, Keeping the fans waiting does nobody any favours. It not the first time they have kept important information from the fans.....
  23. Are you for real ?? There are fans who have been waiting for 54 years for success. Let me assure you there are only two reasons why the team hasn't been announced yet, (1), They haven't or can't acquire the rider(s) they want. If they had any good signings they would be shouting it from every media possible or (2) The team is in place but they don't want it rubbished by the media as being poor. So yes, I am concerned for the lack of names, it does nothing for promoting interest in the club. and highlights how the club feel towards their fans....
  24. For somebody who use to be pit based in the late 60's ,70's & 80's I was on first name with nearly all the riders , You'll be amazed at the corners they cut to save money, many riders hosed the bikes down at the end of the meeting in readiness for the next. Back then Terry Betts use to say a new bike would last him a whole season without any major problems. Oil and adjust the chain, and on the next meeting. He used to have a new tyre and chain once a month and was always competitive. High in the rankings, he was regarded as a top rider in his time. His costs were manageable but even then he also worked in his own garage to supplement his earnings.... No, he didn't ride in other countries and there were no SGP series, but the sport was popular and well supported. There is no reason why that scenario cant be re-created . The BSPA have to forget about other countries, other leagues, and the SGP and concentrate on creating a new beginning. This has to be done on cheaper bikes, sealed against tuning, and admission priced at a cost to attract the fans back. As long as the races were competitive, it wouldn't matter if the heats were slower. Leave the tuned bikes for the SGP. if the top riders wanted to race here, then they could on our terms, on bikes similar to all the others . Plans for survival have to be implemented now making bikes ready for 2020. The clock is ticking and time is running out fast This idea offers so much potential but by doing nothing our sport is destined to die....
  25. When on Twitter, the club said they are counting down the days, I thought they were referring to the team announcement rather than the start of the season. Probably someone ought to inform them we need a team before we can start to imagine a new season....
