Recently seen news of potential speedway in Weston Super Mare, is this a reality or dream?
-
For Jack, eventually it will happen. Too much pressure from expectations due to the fabulous career his dad had. Maybe a bit like Max Clegg, started off like a house on fire and not lived up to expectations due to everyone else's expectations. Possibly a good fit to ride together at The National Stadium and prove all the doubters wrong?
-
Would Max Clegg fit the number 6 place. Solid rider and lots of experience.
-
Had Ivan Mauger, Barry Briggs, Ronnie Moore or Jason Doyle not ventured to the UK to further their career aspirations, then potentially we would never have witnessed some of our speedway greats. At present speedway in the UK is in turmoil and struggling financially and a dire shortage of NDL riders capable of being competitive. What we do not need is every NDL filled to the brim with riders sliding down the scale into the teams, but yes realistically every team needs a level of experience to help and steer the youngsters. So after our Premier League was stripped of stars by Poland`s dictatorship why can we not help develop riders from the Commonwealth and give them opportunities. Surely the likes of Jacob Hook, James Pearson and George Congreve could be given the green light to ride in the NDL. However convoluted it maybe, Connor Bailey is riding, so good for him to have a team place and hopefully progression to higher levels through the NDL experience.

In view what is happening to Sport in Coventry would now be the time for All Supporters of both Coventry Bees and Coventry City to come together United and Bulldoze through all, to make way for a purpose-built Stadium to house both and secure the long-term future of sport in Coventry?
-
Of course, many have disposable income, many do not. They have at least worked for that money and keep adult children into their thirties who will not work. But I will not pay £20 for second rate entertainment from money grabbing riders who already and are playing the system and clubs.
-
If the 1-7 had star quality in depth, then would understand the increase due to rider payment demands. But come on paying second string and second rate riders excessive money is not the way forward. In the present economic climate, looks like several Championship clubs will be joining the lemmings.
-
Just remember, MONEY is the key to all. Helping British youngsters is not free of charge, but a golden ticket for all retirees once careers are done.
-
Any news on how this has finished
-
It is a pity Jack Smith cannot ride like his dad. Complin rode a good hard race and did nothing wrong. Apart from abusing Lee after the race, Jack is still a novice.
-
Only one who uttered an ounce of credibility was Jason Crump when he said seen worse tracks but just got on with it. Dangerous track....Now if Cardiff is not good enough I am sure Mildenhall can accommodate the British GP in 2023
-
Well it has been years since we had some refreshing new commentators in speedway. Continually everyone goes on about the ageing spectators and a requirement for fresh new young ones to be introduced to the sport. With the Advent of the BSN speedway and Clubs live streaming of matches a fresh young batch of presenters and commentators have arrived. So stop bringing past old riders who cannot pronounce names, mix up riders and generally talk crap with poor presenters. The British GP would have been far more entertaining, presentable and acceptable ( irrespective of the track) with the presentation teams from Belle Vue and Scunthorpe

British Final 2022
secsy1 replied to Hackett's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
So, allegedly it was a FIM decision for Adam to progress to the British Final. Cannot argue if that is the case. But who made the decision to have Jack Smith as first reserve and Harry McGurk as second reserve? Surely in the grand scheme of promoting fairness and youth it should have been McGurk with either Mulford, Hagon or Ablitt? -
MIDDLO'S TESTIMONIAL 31/08/2022

Typical money over what matters. The sport is dying and just to put the final nail in the coffin lets fill the pocket of someone who already has enough. Surely the new up and coming riders deserve more respect by someone who commands respect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
UK speedway slowly dying
secsy1 replied to old bob at herne bay's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Could not agree more, presentation is useless using too many meaningless ex riders commentating or seen in pits that no one cares about and they do not even know who the riders are and get everything wrong. Had to switch off on Monday after heat 6 due to the waffle. -
Just watched heat 6 and time to turn off. Jorgensen had a nibble at tapes, but why do riders have to refuel and faff with bikes (Tatum) If they have the tools timing change (Stead) Why do we have to put up with second rate guests as commentators lining their pockets at every conceivable event and causing chaos doing so. This is why speedway is in a downward spiral due to these parasites who actually believe they are doing a great job.

MIDDLO'S TESTIMONIAL 31/08/2022
secsy1 replied to SteveLyric2's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
So a prestige British Event the U21 Final High jacked. Is it absolutely necessary to hold it on the same day? -
How long will the meeting take? Will anybody attend or watch it? Does any one care?
-
Yet another meaningless attempt to promote something no one cares about. Instead of trying to preach on speedway forums, promoters need to get out into the real world to attract a new audience.
-
I do agree that if it was not on TV the meeting would have finished, along with the debacle with the airfence. But how many fans and promoters complain we do not get enough TV coverage or air time. Look at the people advising and presenting the sport on its current platform, nothing inspiring or initiative! Not one of the presenters has an ounce of charisma or any magnetism. The whole show is presented pathetically and panders to people who think they know and understand speedway, let me tell you, if you do you should be in Government. A total clear out and rebrand is required, the fate of Newcastle is looming large over SPEEDWAY in Britain, the end is nighe!!!!!!!!!
-
How can Speedway be taken seriously with this dross tonight at Sheffield. From the start of the televised event, utter crap served up for 35 minutes before the start of the meeting. The total lack of personality of all the presenters shows how much Nigel Pearson carried it all with his enthusiasm. Horrible accident for Danny, good to see him up and about. But what a crap promotion regarding airfence replacement, switched it off 20 minutes after the accident with little or nothing happening. Every one saying Newcastle closed due to bad promotion, well Sheffield will soon follow after this debacle.

Newcastle v Leicester 12th June 2022
secsy1 replied to justathought's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Was just watching on BSN and 4 of the riders giving up at first bend, even when leading. Had to switch it off after 9 heats as embarrassing to watch, such inept display by riders getting paid to supposedly entertain the paying crowd. Do the guests get paid for points or just appearance fee, maybe that explains lack of interest from both of them? -
It is not just the Guest and rider replacement facility that has killed the sport so far this season. Petrol prices and cost of living go part way, but the whole package as it stands is a bag of she ite. Even if the 15 races are brilliant, who wants to watch a tractor on a Monday night at Belle Vue race round 9 times and not even grade the track, every 4 races!!!!!!!! Fortunately I watched on Eurosport where it was just drivel from ill informed pundits and piss poor presentation. But wait a minute you say, racing was superb (Which it was) but 1 hour 45 minutes of clap trap is not worth the 15 minutes. Overhaul is not required, autopsy is

Edinburgh - new home required….

Answering all 3 questions at once is easy, put a plan together and buy it. Over several years many Football teams went bust through bad management and ill advice. Grounds shut or demolished. Scarborough, Bury and Macclesfield all suffered, but with hard work by local business people and fans and with council help are all on a great financial footing. Both Bury and Scarborough are fan owned, so why not a speedway club? -
