So did I.

In contrast to another, I was depressed by the low crowd level, it would surprise me if more than 300 people were there. The match was good, some hard fought rides, I particularly enjoyed Mr. Nielsen's efforts. If I can travel eighty miles each way to watch two teams neither of whom I support, it is a crying shame that Rob cannot get more locals into the gaff! Where were you all?

Buxton V Brummies Nt Sun 17 April
teddy2706 replied to Brummies_Ste's topic in National League Speedway
Not a good start to the season for Buxton at all. A long wait to get in, followed by another wait for a referee (not the Buxton promotions fault), followed by a very lack lustre match. Not my idea of a good Sunday afternoon. -
I cannot comment on the truth or otherwise of the Chris Morton incident, but I watched Alan at Cradley and he rarely went anywhere near the fence. That said, I remember Kenny Carter bleating on TV that Alan had banged into him hard to allow Andy to get away. At Norden, as Egon Muller was taking the applause on a victory parade, I remember a broad East Anglian voice shouting "Send 'im to Ipswich, Donkey'll 'ave 'im!" English fans around me were tittering and nodding at both the sentiment and reality of the statement. Undoubtedly, the most dangerous rider I ever saw in the old BL was Gugliemi.

Well? We've had an appeal for meths sponsorship, but we don't know whom we are sponsoring apart from Ryan, Steve and Ollie. Four places left and time marches on Mr. Pipe and Mrs. Moss. Also, it would seem to me that travel costs far outweigh methanol costs for riders and the mileage payment is a pittance. Further, support may falter if Scunthorpe are running on Sunday evenings, is there any bar on speedway running on sunday mornings, road race, grasstrack and MX do, I cannot see why speedway shouldn't, particularly if it cuts down dust because of the track being more moist? That way, supporters could, if they wished, watch at both venues and theoretically riders could be at both tracks if required too.

As an interested speedway spectator, but not a dyed in the wool Sheffield supporter, I think it is a great team! It looks to me like a really exciting team to watch, I cannot say if it is strong enough to bring home honours (and injuries can always humble the best selected sides), but from my point of view, watching at Owlerton this coming season will be an absolute treat, particularly given a clear M1 from the south. No complaints or grumbles from me, the promotion have got it right.

Good job Buxton weren't flying Robert Branford in when he rode for them, with all of that fog and mist around High Edge he probably would have got diverted to Prestwick!

Sudden Sam Unveiling New Jawa Engine..
teddy2706 replied to BWitcher's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I can't make my mind up what he means by increased cylinder head capacity. Is he referring to the combustion chamber volume i.e. lower compression, or have I misread it and he actually means the engine actually has a greater swept volume? Help please someone? -
John Davis In This Weeks Star
teddy2706 replied to oldtimer's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I had the uprights v laydown discussion with an ex. NL heat leader this week. It does seem to me that apart from the lubrication level and the down draught carb, the only obvious diffence between the two engine layouts is the primary pipe length (and that may not be the case, I haven't actually measured them both). If the above is true, there is no reason on earth why an upright could not rev as high as a laydown surely? Are laydowns revving higher merely because they have had a great many more years development since the demise of the upright? If that is the case (and I believe it is) then there is no real argument for returning to uprights is there? As for ex. rider committees formulating reforms to machinery, I seem to remember Jim McMillan was supposed to be evaluating rev limiters nearly two years ago, but I don't recall hearing anything about the outcome of that? Tuners are coming in for some flack in this thread, I assume this includes simple engine builders? Peter Johns told me two years ago that in his opinion many engines required rebuilding because of poor filtration causing wear, poor throttle control causing wear and simple silly riding. We have all seen riders "spinning" an engine up on the start line, opening and closing the throttle rapidly, why? We have all seen riders doing the same exiting turns in an effort to gain traction. Peter Johns told me that most riders regard the throttle as a switch, open or closed, they have no idea of cranial traction control at all. Fashion dictates the equipment choice of many riders and leading edge fashion is always expensive, but what really matters to a rider (did they but know it) is the size of their pay cheque compared to the size of their bills. They do not need huge vans, elaborate sign writing, £35 filler caps, dazzling guards, gold chains or zebra stripe kevlars. They need to get to meetings at the lowest possible cost and leave with an intact, durable bike and a good wage. If they score well, their team is successful and spectators like to watch successful teams and this assures the future of the club and future work for the rider. Racing down the motorway at 90mph, 25 mpg in a dazzling sign written pantechnicon loaded with four bikes is not the way forward for a decent bank balance. -
I have had the pleasure of seeing all three of them ride and I mean pleasure. However, as Halifax Tiger always reminds me, the gap between NL and PL is enormous and very difficult to bridge satisfactorily. It is difficult to make that transition without regular PL outings. Personally, I would rather see a young NL rider struggling to get onto the pace whilst learning in PL, than some foreign rider doing exactly the same. That said, I am despondant with the King Farouk attitude of many NL riders, come back from the race, don shades and kick back in a deck chair whilst a mechanic scurries around doing all of the graft until they reluctantly climb back out of the chair to be pushed off for the next race. They don't even watch the progress of the meeting they are so self absorbed. I don't remember seeing Kelvin Mullarkey or Dave Perks doing that.

Coventry Storm Awarded Meeting V Rye House

Whilst not a supporter of either team, this does not seem very fair to me. -
Mildenhall V Buxton 27th September

A long time in the saddle for a bitterly disappointing result! -
I don't know how the selection works, a quick lunchtime greensheet would suggest (e&oe) Ellis 10.33 Wison-Dean 10.26 Branford 10.06 Clegg 9.66 Morley 9.46 Wajnecht 9.4 Perry 8.78 Williamson 8.43 Greenwood D. 8.51 Halsey 8.38 Hughes 8.28 Payne 8.13 Shanes 7.94 Atkin 7.79 Armstrong 7.88 Knight 7.62 Ayres 7.44 Hopwood 7.41 Owen 7.32 Perks 7.28 Stokes 7.08 Greaves 7.08 Spiller 7.04 Mountain 7.03 Plainly not all are available for different reasons, but personally I would rather see the best riders in the National league than two from each team, even if that does exclude top riders from some teams.

You're on!

Morley, Ayres and the Piddletown Express would seem blistering value for money to me, Morley may have reached that big fish, little puddle temporary difficulty that beset Simon Lambert a few years ago, but Ayres and Shanes have improved so much as to make a meeting worthwhile watching on their own! Shanes' antics at Buxton a few weeks ago were simply incredible, that lad can make a bike dance and sing. Ayres never knows when he is beaten and never ever gives up, a real hard man straight out of the Alan Grahame and Kelvin Mullarkey mould. I wouldn't complain if I was lucky enough to watch that trio every week.

Buxton V Cradley (nl) 6th September
teddy2706 replied to crazysue's topic in National League Speedway
I wonder if someone would please explain the Michael Neale R/R situation please at this meeting? Moggo and Ritchings seemed to take all of the R/R rides, so am I right in assuming that no-one else could or were two of Moggo's rides actually reserve rides? I am not suggesting anything untoward happeded, I would just like it clarified if possible. -
If that's the case, I'll choose the Piddletown Express James Shanes to win.

Where is the line up to be found please?

Buxton V Eastbourne Or King's Lynn - 13th September
teddy2706 replied to Mimmo's topic in National League Speedway
Whilst I have every sympathy with your predicament, why not make the best of it? Staffordshire Moorlands and the Derbyshire Dales have some fantastic scenery and attractions. There are so many things to see and do it is impossible to list them all. I know it must be annoying, but look on the bright side, Buxton are becoming well known for turning over seemingly better sides, come and enjoy it. A couple of words to the wise though: Kings Lynn is cold, but Buxton is freezing and the weather can change in an instant. Also, the excellent Burger guy isn't there this week I understand. -

A satisfactory result for Buxton, Jack's full team debut was amazing. -
Nl Pairs - 5th Sept @ Kings Lynn
teddy2706 replied to Sings4Speedway's topic in National League Speedway
If league meetings were run in this format there would be an outcry every day of the week. It makes no sense at all, why this format was ever formulated is a complete mystery to me, it is plain daft. I am not a Rye House supporter, far from it, but, whilst taking nothing away from Morley and Ayres who won it fairly under the rules, the moral winners were clearly Branford and Hughes. Robert and Kyle team rode throughout the meeting, were a head and shoulders above everyone else, yet come third. Unjust, unfair, unjustifiable. However, no injuries, no ambulance, no delays, kind weather, so that was a result in itself. However, given that we were watching the best NL riders in England (and Australia and New Zealand) the attendance was absolutely pitiful and almost every team's supporters should be ashamed of themselves for not being there to cheer on their riders. -
Risk...acceptable Or Unacceptable?
teddy2706 replied to customhouseregular's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I don't understand the physics of this argument. Yes, if you are travelling much faster than the bike in front, you might be "launched", but in my opinion, you are more likely to be launched by the spinning rear wheel of the bike in front. I too have seen Per Olaf in action and I don't think I have ever seen him ease the throttle ever, the loony is always flat out! I have seen Krasnikov cross the line on the back of someone elses bike though, at Assen in 2011? Rzeszow 6!, Zielona Gora 4!,Torun 3!, statistics to be frightened by if you are a rider surely?
