You are so right, in our day riders rode second halves gained experience now it is a different world.I don't want Daryl riding for peanuts he is getting better hopefully keep improving if he is in the no 7 birth they're be no bigger cheerer than me as long as he does what he feels is best for himself.

But they have a top tail, this year the reserves we all know are hit and miss most reserves will in a way have they're own mini tournament.That is most of they're goals is to beat they're own level ok Newman is an exception(why?) they are important the reserves but they're will be changes no doubt throughout the year.

Forget the pairs team events, Lee had a better world final record than Collins, he had six finals he was on the rostrum x2 a winner once and a fourth place.Collins had eight appearances a winner once ( very unlucky in 77) but Lee was unlucky in 83 i believe he was the best rider in the world that year on stats Lee is the better in my book.Certainly on the WF record also i know Lee was finished after 83 but he was up there easily with Nielsen,Erik,Sigalos, Penhall a new generation Peter was finished really by 80/81as a possible winner.

Penhall was the better rider end of, in this meeting mixed it well was competetive.Within three years he could of won the final i believe he was the bookies favourite in Lee's year Bast would of never been at that level i am convinced but he was a very good rider.

I don't believe many teams will base there season on what there reserves do, say at Swindon if they have Bates and Worrall who is the better.?If they beat they're own level and maybe get a point or to on merit off a second string they would of more than done there job.

Carter was so unlucky and who knows thing's could of turned out so differently for him. It was 50/50 but Penhall was very lucky he got the call no doubt about that, that incident was on a par with the Nielsen/Knudsen incident in 86.

He never really beat a top field, top of there game when he won the USA national championships in the late seventies 79/1980? Autrey had his dispute i think it ruled him out until 1980 Autrey he qualified i believe for the Overseas Final at white city in 1980. I went to White city in 77 Penhall rode(was competetive) Bast looked totally out of his depth he said he did not get anough practice maybe he didnt but i did exspect him to qualify that day was disappointed with his performance.
