Rolling At The Starts - Growing Problem?
stratton replied to SPEEDY69's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
That bloke was like a modern day football referee, he thought he was a star bigger than the sport he was in.He ruined many a match i went to,he took the pathetic rules to another level that England Ipswich test match in 1984 that day he totally made the sport world wide look like a fiasco. -
Up there with the likes of Hoskins,Dent Oliver',Varey,Berry,Boothroyd,Fearman, proper speedway people passionate.I remember him when i was growing up he was always in the Lynn team pictures RIP Alan.

Tai Woffinden's Views On Single Night Racing In Uk

Well if that is the case all of us would not watch much speedway then, how many top dollar stars have we in the EL.?For me speedway is a great family sport over the years i have seen decent conference racing also the PL has a decent product.Entertainment is what it is all about if i see decent racing whatever level then i am more than happy. -

Rolling At The Starts - Growing Problem?
stratton replied to SPEEDY69's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
This is an entertainment first and foremost Brian, the rulers sometimes forget that, this sport is obsessed with the rule book most of them petty and unnecessary. If we were getting 3000 fans plus through the turnstiles fair anough but we are not get the product and entertainment levels right first. -
Rolling At The Starts - Growing Problem?

Often then the rider who was rolling got punished anyway, for me not a problem it adds to the drama. If the rider anticipates good luck to him he took a gamble and he won if he gets it wrong he is punished. As others have said the sport has endless more problems to sort than this, nothing worse than endless restarts. And it seems to me some refs are trying to get the rider beat by delaying the start (ect) just like that Micky mouse referee Frank Ebdon used to. -
1./ A one to 9 squad for every team, with the last three riders being british sharing the meetings no problems then with double uppers. 2./ Get rid of the Micky mouse joker rule. 3./A reduction every now and then for regular supporters maybe a voucher system, a free pint ? or something from the track shop cheaper?.A good way of showing that the club appreciates the home diehard supporter. 4./ Regular dialogue and discussion at every club (ie at Scunny Godfrey suggested it) because there are endless people who have suggested some great ideas on this forum as an example. 5./ Stop the EL against PL squabble, work together for the good of the sport. 6./ More modern music. 7./A seven thirty start, means a prompt start and finish. 8./The fifteen heat formula needs to be tinkered with. 9./Be great to have a regular golden helmet match race back. 10./Go back to the old race format, as an ex heat 5 no 5/4 against 1/2.

Belle Vue V Wolves 16-07-14
stratton replied to Phil The Ace's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Yes "Oldace" he was stripped of the helmet on two separate occasions. He beat Kennett 2.0 in 1981 at Lynn, but failed to turn up at Eastbourne he lost the title then.In 1984 he beat Crump 2.1 and 2.0 but in his second defence against Shawn Moran lost 0.2(Engine gremlins) and failed to turn up at Owlerton he then had to forfeit the title. -

Yes totally agree, i probably didn't see him ride half the amount of times as you did but i did see quite alot of his career. The same really i feel cheated, but Mike cheated himself in the end but what a talent gave me some of my greatest speedway memories. Anyway fingers crossed for Robert L eh "Semion,i see him at Swindon the other week and i feel in my creeky bones that he will be a star. -

A wee bit of sarcasm i believe, but how many meetings did he turn up for quite a few in my memory.Michael did not show for a few meetings,my biggest disappointment was going to Sheffield for the second leg of the golden helmet against Shawn Moran he didnt turn up.In a few instances Michael did have valid reasons,it is not an excuse though. For people who followed Michaels career(GWR would be great to know his opinion as his knowledge of Lee is as good as anyone) we know this comment is a bit of a myth.We always remember the few non appearances but forget what Michael put into speedway an awful lot in my opinion. -
It is not the best ,the occasion is great no doubt about that but we have been blessed with some great GPS this year at other venues. For the racing spectacle over the years,Cardiff has not been one of the best as i have said it is a great occasion and i hope people enjoy it for many years to come. "Paddi " when you pulled up outside Wembley with endless other coaches the excitement and atmosphere was electric, for me alot different to Cardiff a different era.None of the racing was great, even the Penhall final was overrated but what a day out fans from all over supporting different riders.Friendly banter amongst the fans that day always showed that speedway was a great family sport.

After Saturday a decent meeting and a great occasion could other venues come in for consideration for future GPS.?I say this because i don't know if it is correct? but was the gate only 31,000? a terrible gate if that is true.West Ham move into Wembley soon and there are rumours that the track is staying, and it is not impossible about a speedway return the landlords are interested in any revenue coming in.If that gate is true what a drop that was do they usually get 48/50,000? surely that is a worrying sign would WEMBLEY entice more people in? I believe it certainly would.

But where you are wrong is Lambert and Lawson are on par with Barker now easily, if anything Barker has to earn his chance again. For me he has not,he has had his chance do you think he deserves another one.? -

Rossiter has a chance a bit like our football side to look to the future and rebuild take a different route and to be fair Lyon would of done it has he Rossiter the courage does he believe in it? i don't know.I don't think he will,he is more worried about the short term results and how it might look on his cv.We all know its a tough job, no one exspects much i certainly don't but to be honest it does look a same old same old squad. For me Tai should be the only place filled, the rest are all of a muchness, even Cook has been inconsistent and his record at King,s Lynn not great either. If Nicholls could of been persuaded he is the only certain member i would have alongside Tai, and if i had a punt i would give Lambert and Lawson exsperience at that level. -
A good win by the Budgies,a few riders dropping points where they were unlucky ef,falls ect).Ward really was flying tonight, heat 1 he looked mega quick and his pass of Batchelor in heat 13 was superb.

P.C and Mort the best i believe, with the Phil Collins /Alan Grahame partnership up there also Shawn and Kelly were also special as a partnership.

Hyde Rd Belle Vue no doubts for me the best racing track i have ever been to, at this present time it would be Scunthorpe. -
The speedway star has been great over the years and still is,i am with Colin i like both the cover and back with no writing spoiling the picture.I have a massive collection now in which my wife still moans about but i would never get shot of them.
