  1. Are you serious utter tosh! he would have a field day whatever track gate whatever stats you throw at us.Have a rethink going back years up until Gundersen (ect) the league was harder most teams had a good five and four at home and riders like PC at three and a decent no 1.Honestly Addio you are quite clued on on most subjects but i recon you are a bit off the mark in this instance,Alot of teams years ago had a decent home advantage/ most travelled badly, at home they were a force.Dress it up as much as you like the EL is an average product living off the scraps pretty average Gundersen/Nielsen both with there gating prowess whatever gate would be licking there lips nowadays in Britain. Also your point about the best and also rans is confusing what is a also ran in your view? a junior?
  2. Woffinden,Ward(unavailable?)most riders now take England as a afterthought a bit of pocket money when it suits.
  3. Any idea'Anzum"? i would be happy with one of the Pawlicki brothers can't see it though.
  4. So disappointed Doyley does not want to ride for us,that does show a statement on how we are at the moment as a club.Good luck to him though, and i hope he has a real go in the GPS how much progress has he made in the last three years.?We have now missed out on Musielak(a real prospect) Michelson, have a feeling it could be a real long season fingers crossed hope a surprise signing happens.
  5. Those great riders named believe me would of been great in any era,the same with Craven,Briggs,Mauger,Moore,Fundin (ect).Thinking about it now god Nielsen would of had a field day in our inferior EL product whatever the format.
  6. Really am worried now, unless they can produce a rabbit out of the hat solution which is doubtfull to replace Kildemand will be a tough job.
  7. Not overated no way, i believe they were both great riders legends both of them Nielsen/Gundo my point really was that decade really opened up for them.In my mind up to 83 Lee,Carter,Sigalos,Sanders(who had really upped his game)had all decent head to head records against them both within three and a bit years all of them were gone.I loved watching Gundersen a great rider, always supported him to beat NIelsen Nielsen though was some rider and i was wrong about him he has to be in the all time best six riders of all time.
  8. I actually think we think that Nielsen/Gundersen were better than they were, great riders dont get me wrong they did it and are in the roll of honour but Carter in 85 certainly could of won it.Saying that i don't think he was as good at Odsal Bradford than he was at the shay.NIelsen/Gundersen were great riders but i think thing's landed in there lap a bit over a period going up to Jan o and Sam/and potentially double champion Jonsson.
  9. You are right, but do you think this applies to other trades whatever it may be.?
  10. If what you say is correct then the man should never work again end of,what is the difference between being a footballer and being a painter?
  11. I have always believed if Carter,Lee,Sanders,Sigalos had not left the scene the two danes would never of won seven titles between them also bearing in mind also Knudsen was robbed in 86.
  12. Certainly she is light years behind Mrs Nicholls, and for that i am sorry she has not really improved does she do her research.?As for the Evans case, well cracks me up people do not want him earning his living as a footballer but are quite happy him being a bin man,Painter/Decorater(ect. Wouldn't he be as much as a danger to the public (if he is one.?? doing those less glamorous jobs.
  13. Holder/Tai against the field for me,and Magic to surprise and push for a top eight spot.
  14. No hype he has just progressed which has to be good dosent't it? this rule should of been brought into the PL English lads getting a clear run in the team.Still we have the likes of Dilger,Edberg(ect) taking up spots,it is not right going back to Sarjeant who has hyped him up?.I have not heard any Coventry fans say it Havelock made a comment and he said he was pleased with his progress.
  15. You are right the GP series was a step forward, but it would of been nice if the money involved was shared amongst speedway going back in investment the future instead of going to a few greedy individuals who are creaming it in.
  16. Great riders would compete in any era, would Joe Davis compete now at snooker?would Dempsey compete in boxing? a big yes for me.If anything these guys did not have the advantages sportsmen have now.
  17. Sarjeant did well most of the year acquitted himself very well stuck at it where did your six week theory come from? surely you did not expect more from him.?
  18. Ebdon was a joke and i went to Oxford,Reading along with Swindon most weeks and he managed to ruin quite a few night outs.
  19. I do think though both Carter/Lee were both mega professional riders, they loved there speedway I know Lee had a few bad days but overall turned up had professional gear( his dad was great for him )
  20. Mr bigger than the sport Ebdon in my view was totally useless! and Eglese totally f...ed Mike Lee 's career bigtime.
  21. If he had gone to Poole earlier that might of prolonged his career who knows? when the new tape rule came in that was it for him he was a marked man.
  22. He certainly was one of the best i see ride at Hyde Rd but i believe PC and Olsen were the best i ever saw at Hyde Rd.Shame there was not much footage of the BLRC but some great footage at the shay his great win over Nielsen in the helmet well worth getting the quality is decent as well.
  23. I have just finished watching the Kenny Carter DVD, a must for any speedway fan.Superb comes to mind i really enjoyed watching it and it brought back some great memories say what you want the bloke was some rider. But it was worth 16 pounds alone, just to see the two golden helmet match races at Halifax between Carter and Lee. Lee on that day was unbelievable he made Carter look like a novice, well done Tony Mac and his team a great watch and all fans should get.
  24. I missed 1980 but see the other two rebel" always a great meeting always seemed to be wet meeting's until Hans conquered Hyde Rd later in his career.
