Lee in 83 had his best season( mainly the last three months since 1979 ) so he was hardly on the wain as you said his mistakes cost him his career with a big HELP from Eglese,Ebden and Bracher.Also before Billy's death he had had his best two years in speedway and was approaching his peak. People also forget the pressure Muller had to contend with being a homer, he was mentally tough and won the meeting on merit.Also on the same point the legend Freddie Williams should never be forgotten i know his two titles were at Wembley but he handled the occasion superbly.

Very brutal GC your opinion and i respect that in later years i got to appreciate Nielsen a bit more i was never a fan to be honest.I see him for about two whole seasons regularly at Oxford and he was rarely beaten then but for me i never took to him.When Penhall,Lee,Sigalos, Gundo,Sanders was about he was never top dog and if Penhall/Lee,Sigalos,Sanders had not disappeared no way would he have won four titles.

You are one of a few who see it the way you do, i have spoke to plenty of people about it and one person who went he said Nielsen was at fault.Even in Hans body language you could see he feared the worst, i know you are a Nielsen fan but you have to be impartial. Take the blinkers off that meeting Nielsen's move was a desperate one after all his near misses he was LUCKY bigtime.

A bit harsh please the riders name was Egon Muller hardly a mug. You have two big opinions the Penhall/Carter incident and the Knudsen/Nielsen incident on both counts you are so bias.Nielsen in 86 was so lucky you could even see in his body language Hans knew he was let off the hook bigtime Knudsen would of won that Final i believe.

Humph stick to your EU nonsense in 86 Knudsen was robbed end of, that was his title ERIK his overall head to head record with Nielsen was awesome specially on the big night.Knudsen was unlucky certainly in 86 remember one Friday night at Oxford Knudsen totally murdered Nielsen. Gundersen, Lee,Carter,Knudsen all had really good overall head to head records against Nielsen.

Of course but being a defending champion Lee and others i think what a pressure that is, thats why Mullers win was great ok he was not a defending champ but he had loads of pressure and soaked it up and he produced it on the day.

In denial Rob in 86 Nielsen should of been out that year, he was very lucky other years he was not so fair anough.Knudsen at his best like Erik beat Hans regular looking over the facts and figures Lee,Carter,Sigalos,Erik, Knudsen all had great head to head records with Nielsen. But thirteen points as Carter had six i think coming up to the Penhall race might have been anough for a run/off or second place? there certainly would of been more pressure on Penhall in his last race.What i am saying is PENHALL was always going to get a homers verdict i am sure Carter knew there race would be tough one and he was very unlucky in my book.Was Penhall lucky i think so, he did annoy me when he left speedway but that was his right to do so but i still say in 82 he was a lucky champion similar to when Hans brought Knudsen off.!!!

After all these years i have often thought if only Ivan could of said to Kenny maybe if you have to settle for second place don't overide?Who knows he might of been in a run/off for the title,things could of been so much differenct for me Penhall was so lucky that night.What needled me though that he showed no real sorriness after, just smugness he went down alot in my estimation that night a great rider no doubt but i would take Scott Autrey as a favourite over him all day long.

A great post and all of us oldies can relate to this,came home from Norden really gutted because i really believed Lee had a great chance but you know what the whole field was blown away by Egon that day.And sometimes you have to say hands up what a great performance, the old one day finals did have major flaws but i believe now it is even more unfair.Some people on here have short memories, they were moaning like crazy when Tai as a 500/1 shot was aloud back in the series.Thank god he was eh! he grasped the chance and what a fine CHAMPION he is but it shows just the odd break in life helps.I believe this GP series is still a bit of a closed shop certainly needs looking at,at the moment for me it is not far wrong line up wise apart from Emil,Dudek,Vaculik.?

Dont ask me but ask other people who you respect was Muller any good ? Believe me he was good and he was good at Longtrack as well and he if had of turned up in overseas finals (ect ) ie he would have had quick aquipment no doubt about that and qualified.

Did you ever know his career really?you ent got a clue i went to the abbey he scored 0 for Coatbridge.He progressed at a real rate at international level he was decent and ask Mauger/Briggs how good he was do your research Orion please.! Did you go to Norden??

Totally wrong on Muller most of us who know speedway ? give credit he was a class act and i went and at Norden he was the favourite no doubt about it.lee, Carter,Sanders.Sigalos, Nielsen had chances but Egon was the best man on that given day at Norden.

Was there ever a fluke winner? Jerzy( ask Ivan and others) Egon was class in 83 and 83 for me was a vintage year some great riders that year.!
