Totally agree was exciting the one off finals, but the B.L.R.C. was always the better line up.kkylnosski trofinov , russians ,plech ,kasper, were i think the best of the rest and maier was a talent to.Then Olsen built vojens and the gps were always his vision for the future. As it is now the gps is in pretty good shape hopefully it will prosper[a great champion and human bein in Greg Hancock will help that along.

What an arrogant comment, its not an arguement its an opinion a difference i think.Parsloes i dont no him from Adam but hes entitled to his opinion like i am whats the problem in that.A new system i havent the answers [i dont pretend to know everything unlike some people}.People are not always going to agree with you it dosent mean the other person is argueing for the sake of it do you understand that consept.

Bit of a picnic, Mauger got to being a millionaire by riding loads of meetings what was it 1963 to 1984.?all the others i named had full careers could not always take a plane then like now.Mauger Briggs Michanek Olsen Collins ect you would be surprised how many meetings they rode in loads. But they chose that path because they loved it.Also some of them did there own aquipment preparation most now just turn up and ride.Bit of a picnic no way .

If the kids are not good anough, fair anough could there be a fairer way to get in maybe?as for jonsson and andersen they havent won it because they havent been good anough.maybe jonsson can do it still is good anough.pressure collins mauger lee michanek olsen were all over the world in there day doing loads of meetings so the pressure always been there. if anything it was harder then.going back to the gps if the best riders are in it thats great there are some things that could be changed with debate of course.

Im not confused, my opinion like parsloes we are entitled to that why do you get on your high horse. If injured on a one off qualifier, riders new that excepted it.All im saying is maybe the system could be improved.Parsloes point like me is he dosent want to see the same old faces every year yes if the system is a fairer playing field maybe if good anough a few young uns will get in.At the end of the day i want to see the best riders in the world in it,ie]if ward hadnt got in would that of been good for speedway i dont think so.
-
I think Ward is a great example, of what parsloes is trying to say.Just say ward didnt qualify didnt get an invite for the world championships wouldnt that be a travesty. We all no hes quality puts bums on seats and is a draw card in speedway.Parsloes has said i agree it is a bit of a closed shop it does need freshening up.The world championships should be open to all,it isnt is it now.Martin yeates Wiggy reached the later rounds when in the national league room for a spoiler. My take is The masters in the 70s was hand picked the world championships need looking at you can always improve.

I do see where parsloes is coming from and agree with most points.Every year when a darcy ward dosent make the gp series full time i think it will get harder and harder for the young riders to do it.Even if good anough will they have the finance and chance to do it. it does seem to be harder my personel opinion if darcy has the time to prepare gets things in place he will be around for a long time and has a chance to win it in the future.i hope darcy just enjoys it at first release the pressure for himself.I think parsloes wants it easier for younger riders to have there chance i agree with this also.

Carter Where Does He Rate With The Great British Riders?

I think injuries, are part of speedway, ive seen riders who in my opinion were dangerous riders out of control.I wont name names and most of those ended up unscathed.Where others were very unlucky i think some things are decided sometimes fate.P.C a prime example, got badly injured at hyde rd drain cover showing still up, wasnt Peters fault just human error by someone else.As it happens that in 1977 cost Pete his second world title.I no Carter did take chances maybe some of his were his fault, but generally i think injuries will always be part and parcel in speedway. -

I always think comparing eras is a difficult thing. ie Mauger, Briggo, Collins all great riders for me so would of been in any era. Mauger who i was never a fan of his main asset for me was consistency he would of loved todays gps he could of even won more titles?I no he messed around at the start but boy he was a great gater.IF Anything Collins would of found it harder now more so than Mauger because of his poor gating and slicker tracks now. Also most of the big tracks have gone now ie Hyde rd Sheffield[p.l] Halifax, Exeter,.But i always say class is permanent and you can only do what was put in front of you at the time.Same as Greg now he would of competed in any era because he is a great rider. -

Great point, i think i see Joe in a Briggos greats meeting i think at Coventry looked terrific a young kid then.Going on to styles my all time favourites probably were Simmo[always looked like he was sat in a armchair] Tommy Jansson,Ole Olsen, and Mark Courtney who i thought had a great riding style loved watching him ride. -

I think there were two others who made similar posts to you thats fine about opinions. In simple terms, you dont ride to Carters level by not having ability or talent if you think Screen had more natural ability than Carter thats ok all about opinions. -

Natural ability,Lewis Bridger has that loads of others also over the years. You mentioned Screen and Loram but you never even mentioned Lee?To say Screen had 20 times more natural talent than Carter is mad.Ivan Mauger had talent he worked hard at it its getting the complete package talent commitment the right people around you helping you.Ask most people did Screen have 20 times more talent than Carter be surprised if many people agreed with you. The bottom line if i had to put my life on who would win more races Carter or Screen only one winner Carter all day. -

Dont think so if that was the case,Screen massively underachieved. You dont go as fast as Carter did, by not being a good motorcyclist not in my opinion.Carter and Screen no contest in my book as much as i like Joe still like him now . Would Joe have won 2 B.L.R.C. Titles[Top class line up no in my opinion.Michael Lee, was gangly awkward not always pretty on the bike but he was a natural motorcyclist more so than any one i see. -

Loram and Havelock did great in there careers but i couldnt put them in front of Carter.I dont go on actually what people have won,ie going back years examples Warren, Crutcher both great riders but in a way underachieved. But in my mind both great riders same with the Boocock brothers think Carter is in there bracket. -

I was there when Phil Crump beat Carter 3 times a great day out i think if my memory serves me right Holloway gated Carter in heat 1 and he had to come from the back there as well.If Carters life had stayed on track would he had been a threat to Gundersen/Nielsen i think so but who noes?.Just watched the 1984 British Final and he was riding at a very high level there hyphophetical i suppose. -
Great point Bobbath,Boothroyd was good around the shay, first time i went to the shay i was amazed by the cindered track loved that place never went there as much as i would of liked.Going through my programmes, think Olsens record there was excellent i think he won The Dews trophy a few times.
-
The Boocock brothers, were both great riders different sorts but were a credit to the sport.Who did people think was the better ?Iwas a big Eric fan but Nigel was really exciting to watch. The only regret is i didnt really see Eric at his best around the shay.Would imagine no order Booey,Carter,Younghusband were probably the best ever around the great shay circuit.

I dont no if he would of won it but he would of had a great chance.Would Nielsen and Gundersen won 7 titles between them if Carter,Sigalos,Lee,Sanders had stayed around because of various reasons certainly not.Saying that both those Danes were brilliant ,But those four world class riders not around did open up the door for the danes.Make no mistake, Carter could of beaten the Danes on any given day. -

Carter was terrific from the back, funny thing is i thought he was a decent gater as well. That German track Olching what a track that was up there with the great Hyde Rd Belle Vue. -
I liked both the Boocock brothers both terrific riders in different ways. Eric maybe was more stylish Nigel a exciting rider worth just going to watch him alone. Both a credit to themselves and speedway.A regret of mine was never really seeing Eric at his best at the shay.I would love to ask Eric would he have fancied his chances against Kenny at the shay?I recon his answer would of been yes.Dave Younghusband is another i heard was a flyer at the shay. What do people think.

Who at there best in the 80s was the better rider Lee or Carter?i liked both riders both terrific riders .No doubt in my mind a totally Switched on Lee wins all day.Ask Penhall,Gundersen,Nielsen who they feared the most i think they would say Mike as Lee had a terrific head to head record against all those 3 great riders. -
