Great Races That People Remember While Watching Speedway?
stratton replied to stratton's topic in Years Gone By
Make fun, you are good at that.Wont be reading anymore of your posts you talk a good game but no substance. -
Parsloes who were your greatest riders of alltime?
-
Be in the 12,didnt see him but his record stands for itself what about you The White Knight?Id have Freddie with Ronnie Moore somewhere is very hard to place the cream.
-
Great post great read and i think your points are all good really. The interesting point for me what you said was the Erik point, he never did quite have the measure of Erik and in big meetings i fancied Erik everytime. But i have to concede that Nielsen,s record longevity is very impressive and have realised that after his career had finished. He wouldnt be in my top six of all time he would probably be in the second group.Thats all about your own feelings really my top 6] would be 1./Briggs,2/Mauger 3./Fundin.4./Craven 5/Olsen 6./Richardsson Nielsen for me would be in the next 6.

Just watched the end of the game at the shay, shame long as Halifax get back thats all that matters.Be great if the size of the track, was like Somerset thats a terrific track.I went to Buxton the other year and in a funny way reminded me of the shay think the shale was grey. The track surprised me didnt no what to exspect but it was good James Wright was awesome that day.Anyway good luck Halifax.
-
Yes it would be great if Rotherham opened even at the lowest level, would help Sheffield i think.Im hoping Halifax get the go ahead,i presume a new site it is.Is the Shay a thing of the past?See the track could be redone is that a no hoper has that question ever been asked.Loved Halifax love them to be back soon one of the best days speedway ever at the shay but a new track would be great also.
-
Yes it does Rob,you are right I always thought when Hans started out at Wolves Ole was a bit of a mentor to him?Maybe Olsen did feel threatened by Nielsen,i couldnt understand why the relationship soured later on.
-
Yes i think you are right Hans was treated terribly, and he showed how much a professional he was to just carry on with the job.Olsen i never ever liked his involvement in the gps,and i think is a man you wouldnt cross.
-
Debate with you, you dont debate its your opinion or nothing.
-
Clever mr no it all, who dosent know as much as he thinks he does.Change your name impartial one to MR NO IT ALL.
-
1970 till 1981 i said then he had chances of winning the world title? 83 was never going to win at Norden was he? Think first mr no it all.
-
Why debate?Parsloes said yesterday what a bully you are i thought that was harsh.Just debate Rob did ,he never got silly you come on you think you are clever. Is it to hard for you like i said before Falcace wiped the floor with you.To make fun and mock you have got to have knowledge you havent.Get your history of speedway book out get reading like i said before wouldnt be so bad if you new your stuff.

Nielsen,s average was awesome ,Ivan did he get a 11.74 average? i think you will find the opposition was higher then thou than 1986.
-
Did he dominate? one real threat really up until Erik,s injury Erik. Olsen rode from 1970 till 1981,the level then was unbelievable and was always there with a chance.Nielsen i would put Lee Penhall,Sanders,Sigalos,Carter in his era did he master those no he didnt they disapeared. Not Hans Nielsens fault and he went on and had a great career fair play to him.
-
Erik always had Nielsens number, forget the 22 medals did he do it when Penhall was about[no].He got lucky when Lee,Sigalos,Sanders Penhall Carter went.Lee and Penhall were better than Nielsen the others i named were on a par at least. Olsen well he was a master, he rode with legends like Briggs,Mauger,Michanek, a mega era and Lee and Collins were awesome after that. Who was the threat to Nielsen 1?Erik and Erik mastered him. Dont get me wrong Hans was good,it was just the opposition wasnt as strong.
-
Yes you are correct your opinion and you are entitled to it.But legend is a big statement, but Olsen certainly was i dont think Nielsen quite was.

Carter Where Does He Rate With The Great British Riders?
stratton replied to stratton's topic in Years Gone By
Falcace are you saying Chunky and The Impartial One act as a team? -
Cant have that Olsen what a rider ,terrific style great team man . My top 3 danes ever 1.Olsen 2./Erik 3.Hans .The only reason i cant rate Hans in the Mauger Briggs Olsen mould is because i dont believe he would of won as much if Lee, Carter, Sanders, Sigalos, Penhall hadnt gone off the scene. Not Nielsen,s fault of course.
-
Not quite,in my opinion.
-
Waihekeaces1 ive watched the 1986 incident time and time again changed my mind endless times.Whats your take,at the time i wasnt a big Nielsen fan so i was a bit blinded then. But looking back how wrong i was Nielsen was a terrific rider and i see alot of him. What surprised me later in his career he was exciting as i had only thought of him as a gater. He mastered Hyde rd as i always said he would never win a b.l.r.c but of course he did.Up there with Ole for greatness?
-
I think the Nielsen v Knudsen races were very tough, if anything before the 1986 final.Tommy was a terrific talent, see him at aged 16 he would nearly be up with Lee and P.C at a young age.Knudsen broke his back, but came back and rode at a high level.Always thought there was more of a rivary between those two rather than Gundersen and Nielsen.Even when Knudsen came back after the back injury he was one of the few who could beat Nielsen.
-
Great post have been trying to get the speedway star with all the details in it of that Halifax meeting .With the accurate account of the Lee v Carter helmet clashes with the pairs results as well.I remember it at the time because Lee,s times were mighty fast.Looking back, i think Lee only rode at the shay about 5 times?.
-
I no Preben Eriksen was a very hard rider, sure him and Simmo had a bit of history.Think Eriksen was involved in a crash in which Kelvin Tatum broke his leg,Simmo took exception to this. Therefore after there was always a bit of needle between them think so anyway.
-
I remember going to Poole v Reading 1983 on the wednesday, and Michael Lee was riding against Shawn Moran for the helmet. Lee had a ef while leading and i think Shawn won 2.0.The next night i went to Sheffield and Michael didnt turn up.Michael had been up all night trying to sort his mechanical gremlins out ,didnt succeed.Remember Eric Boocock being very angry that night about Michael,s non arrival.
