  1. I must admit 75 and 78 were not great Finals ,again atmosphere brilliant at all of them.So i am not going to lie and say it was all great at Wembley see a decent European final there and 81 was good overated a bit.I Just think we dont want to get complacent with just Cardiff, hard times at the moment so something new isnt going to happen for a while.Looking back i no Wembley is a great place but really it was a bit of a dump inside sat on planks. It didnt seem to matter ive been to a few big sporting events and the speedway always ranks highest for me.But full respect to Cardiff its doing something right and hopefully that will continue. My only bug bearer is that British Speedway do not see the financial rewards that comes from a british g.p.
  2. Ive been twice the stadium is good, but as others have pointed out there are better. But my main point has the actual racing been great? the occasion has been great the racing,s been average.
  3. Am sorry Iris,my fault i agree entireley it will take alot of effort research and organising and importantly finance,i no the 70,000s crowd are long gone.Could be explored though who knows.Five years ago Wembley certainly was a no go now i think they would be open to offers. At the moment there is Cardiff and nothing else could be a gap in the market and a place for something new. Have you a vested interest Philip,? makes me wonder no pluses at all about other ideas.Cardiff is ok ive been there football [ect] its no great shakes though other places just as good.London to me is pretty good to get too, plenty to do i went to Hammersmith from Swindon the other week good journey cheap pre booked train and tubes good.Dont get me wrong been to Cardiff twice enjoyed it, not the Harris year atmosphere good the racing though has it been that good i think that is questionable.
  4. Wembley is special, always has always will but its like now Cardiff is the bees knees and nothing else could be considered.Wembley now is different, things are run there on a regular basis they are happy to make a fast buck and if things are researched and looked into why not.By the way Philip hope the milleniums officials do bend over backwards they make anough money out of it do they not.If not Wembley there are other venues as well its like you treat Cardiff as a closed shop there or nowhere else for me Wembley or Cardiff been to both enjoyed both only one winner for me though. Its not a dream world is it, whats so stupid about considering Wembley i agree i would not have a g.p there either. Proper research and planning maybe a one off individual meeting, with a large amount of prize money at the end of it that would work i am sure.Ok you might not get 50,000 and might be half full still be a big event though wouldnt it.
  5. Midland Red anywhere, if i new that the money say 60/40 was going back into British speedway[60per cent speedway] would that be great,
  6. The British open at White City[ Sigalos took Nielsen from the back]? was a one off maybe Wembley could be the same again. Why not i think alot of people who support the GPS havent even seen it from the other side. What they no now, is all they no, that,s why i am a bit surprised with Philip,s attitude. He has vast knowledge and of course i respect his opinion but he is not that flexible.Wembley i believe could be rented i think someone with expertise and capital would do very well.Is there anybody who thinks maybe a one off event individual whatever could not attract 40,000?
  7. Rival it have both,?theres room surely someone like Barry Hearn would make a killing if he came in and used all his vast Knowledge of business.By the way Philip is Cardiff set in stone for ever now i am convinced Wembley could out do Cardiff even though Cardiff is a nice place shopping centre ect]. Cardiff having more going for it than London you are joking?you wouldnt spend the day around the neighbourhood would you.
  8. So ? because of that would theyre be a noise issue? or are you worried about getting wet?.Wembley for me, i am sure could be a option they are looking for every money making scheme going .American football, concerts, the pitch gets relaid every two minutes there ,but are bringing in alot of revenue.Maybe it might not happen for a while well worth looking into?Maybe even rival the G.P with all revenue going back into British speedway everyone a winner not just individuals having all the cake just a thought a?
  9. If agreement could be reached would Wembley get a better crowd than Cardiff? is there only ever NOW going to be 40000 plus crowd.I believe Wembley would get a better crowd for the g.p.
  10. Noing more about the London scene, is there ever any chance of Wimbledon the great plough lane returning Parsloes? Why was Hackney a disaster i went there loads of times[dont be late friday at eight]? never heard the full story of why it struggled financially. In the Silver days the track was good crowd reasonable i always felt the terracing seemed a bit lower and you had to look up to watch the speedway always had a good night out though.Off track a bit my son works in Bristol and hes heard off the grapevine that Bristol have had the go ahead the support of Speedway is good and that could be viable .Wimbledon,Halifax, and Bristol to comeback be great not a reality i presume.
  11. Great post, i went there first time in 1977, got there the track amazing, great shape everything i went in the stands fourth bend. It was electric and later on in years when i come back for meetings i always went on the fourth bend.A great track but for me a great day out.
  12. Me being an old fella ?living in the past what are peoples memories of this great meeting?Never saw the mighty Briggo win any of his six.My first b.l.r.c was in 77 great meeting Olsen awesome beat Mauger from the back then defeated Collins[not fit].Some of the footage on you tube really worth a watch.Went to one of Carters wins and 1983,a rainfest supported Lee he got filled in in his first race comeback and got on the rostrum.Later on in the 80s see Nielsen win and Morton also.Loved Hyde rd was a pleasure to go there and it says something when Jason Crump said it was a big regret of his not ever riding there. My biggest memory there though was the Mauger celebration meeting 6 in a race what a site Nielsen was exciting changed my mind about him being just a trapper.Hyde Rd was a great place have you others got good memories or bad ones of the legendary Hyde rd.
  13. My top ten of all time 1,Briggs,2.Mauger 3.Olsen 4.Fundin 5.Rickardsson 6. Craven 7.Moore 8.Gundersen 9.Nielsen 10.Penhall[ should of been higher] J .Crump could get higher before retirement Lee ,Collins ,Williams,Michanek all in the next group .
  14. Long as your happy with that ,thats fine we come to a agreement Nielsen has the word Greatness next to his name.
  15. Success is different to what you said a Great?been here before with Talent and natural? Back to the proper subject i am backing Jason to get a fourth title in 2012.
  16. No worries at all,did go off the subject a wee bit sorry.
  17. If you want to be critical, and as a outsider looking in up until 1986[very lucky indeed Knudsen incident] you wouldnt class him on the verge then would you.A bridesmaid beaten by his great foe Gundersen in 84,85.Come 1986 he hadnt won anything up to that point its after the win in 86 that he shows his greatness.Do you grasp that impartial one up until 86 he wouldnt of been a great until then surely. After the 86 win[lucky]he had got over the mental barrier and went on to achieve resolve and greatness after that.
  18. Dave wondered if you could help me,how good is Damien Koppe? ive followed his career remember his dad[a very good rider]wondered whether a move to a big track like Sheffield would suit him.I think he would average at least 6 in the p.l. what do you Know and what do you think?
  19. 1983 Muller in his last ride had done anough by then anyway, after that yes he did go on to greatness, fair play to him.A glittering career and had longevity with it.When all said and done his career panned out right for him after 1980,81,82,83,looking like he was going to fall short. He showed resolve and thats what i admire him most for impartial one.The point Chunky made do you rate someone on there roll of honour record or do you rate them on what you saw and ability wise a personnel observation i think.
  20. I did class him as a great read the post properly how you can say he was on the verge of greatness by 1983 he hadnt won anything had he then?Great rider i myself see lots of him admire him greatly.Because Collins and Lee only won one title each to me they were his equal. Also Penhall and Gundersen [who had his number] i rated higher. Not bad he,s still in the top 10, examples in other sports Mcenroe i rated higher than Lendl lendl won more osullivan i rated higher than Hendry Hendry won more I dont always go by trophies and medals just my personnel outlook.Impartial one he is still a all time great just a few others in front of him thats all.
  21. You have cracked me up Iris a few old guys hope you dont include me in that?by the way have the Beatles split up no the gps are hear to stay. But the memories are still there from the one off finals sad i know.
  22. Out of the riders i named Steve ,Briggs,Lee,Olsen were the only riders i would say were in my favourites .Crump is also there out of the g.p brigade,.Collins and Lee only won a title apiece but they would be on the same level as Nielsen and Gundersen again how you see things on a personel level.Do you go on achievements [ie] titles? i dont myself maybe you do if so can see why you would rate Nielsen so highly.
  23. Mauger,Briggs,Fundin,Rickardsson, most people i would imagine would say they would be up there.Thats not if,s chunky? the rest for me is peoples own opinion would i put Nielsen in front of Craven Olsen a couple of examples no i wouldnt,Thats me though also you made me laugh, when you said i would just put Ole in front of Erik. You never give me an answer about Erik in my memory Erik got the better of Nielsen on numerous occasions made Nielsen make mistakes [ie]Kelly nicked through and cost him the title. At there best i always felt Erik would beat him exspecially in pressurised positions, there head to head was close , Erik won more if i hazard a guess.F.Williams Collins,Lee,Penhall,Gundersen,j.Crump . Nielsen would be in that group with them.Chunky as i said all about your personal preference.
