Threat To The World Cup
stratton replied to TwoMinuteWarning's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
. Well that was a disgrace, i admire Rune was honest and rode through the pain barrier and got punished for it.Should of been supported like Nicky was.The system now is more flawed than the old one off,s. Actually it is vulnerable as it is for backhanders to come into operation. Those other points raised mostly brilliantly by Humphrey there does seem to be a silence. The last reply by WIE JA. seemed a very desperate point, -

I will say Iris on the other thread, 4 points say it all really, no real answers to them from you or anyone. 1/ Humphrey [ who mentioned the crowds old format alot higher] 2/Parsloes who mentioned mike Lee aged17 / John louis aged 29 wouldnt get a chance in the gps straight away now.] 3.White Knights point about div 2 rider Jack Young wouldnt of got his chance either] 4./This point from Phil well is laughable really [i speak to the riders and they love the way the direction of the series is going .Because they know the same old faces a closed shop will have the bread and Butter of the sport for as long as most wants says it all really. -
Remember Grachan it was in 83 Lee at his best in my opinion was the best rider in the world in 83 to do that to Crumpy took some doing.Went to Norden thinking Lee would win it, had rode at Halifax totally destroyed Carter in the helmet and the meeting was in great form..As we know Muller was good on the day conditions to suit him and his aquipment was super fast Egon was top class anyway and deserved it on the day.
-
He murdered Nielsen and co that day didnt go,makes you think how many titles he should of won.The control board and [that liar Eglese have alot to answer for] went to that British Final thinking he would ride never totally reduced the ban was gutted that day. That decision would never be aloud now anyway great that Mike is still in speedway and i would like him to be considered for the England maybe him / Louis partnership.

I went to the 1979 Internationale? when Michael Lee wiped the floor with P.C and co, i loved Wimbledon, even though i didnt really like little tracks. -
As Lucifer Sam[Rob] said its only been the last 10 years or so it has been excepted.I have years of British Final programmes going up to way past 2000 never on there roll of honour.Always gaps in 62 and 63 as long as Craven was reconised thats the main thing.
-
Thanks Rob brilliant that the great little man is reconised, strange that even up to recently in the Coventry roll of honour they always left gaps for those years. Thankyou.
-
Looking through me stuff the great Peter Craven won the british title in 1962 and 63 why is this missed out on the roll of honour?.for those 2 years were they not reconized or is there a mistake.Craven also was placed in 1961 as well.

Great point MARK and fair play i say to Lindback, it does show the system is flawed though. I argue for it to be fairer yet all of them in it i am happy with. The only 3 who are not in the series who i want in it are WARD, LAGUTA, BATCHELOR.But would a Michael Lee like talent get a chance at 17or 18 now very unlikely as the system stands.
-
It looks like you said common sense when you explain it financially its impossible. The point i made was our league was the dogs b.......... s at one time now we in Britain have no real say anymore we are not a force.Sweden and Poland have better leagues.Example AUTREY And later PENHALL had to ride in Britain because our league was miles in front of everybody elses. Now we are a bit of a also ran in world speedway no real influence, have one event Cardiff thats your lot.Overall ive always maintained the GPS overall hasnt been great for british speedway overall as a whole.
-
sorry i misunderstood thought you mentioned 1989, Munich the point i made Wiggy was a national league rider with Weymouth who reached the 1982 british final. Was a place for the underdog then. Good point maybe that shows you how in Britain we have fell behind are league was the bees knees now its just a distraction.I think when the g.ps first come into action thats where the long term planning should of come into play. Its a shame because in my lifetime i dont see are leagues prospering and recovering who knows.
-
I am not living in the past, the costs have always been there that hasnt changed. In the 60s and 70s as far as i know riders still had to shell out it has never been cheap. My QUESTION to you is YES or NO? Is it easier to stay in the series for as LONG AS THE RIDER WANTS? the way the system is now my answer is YES it is.
-
Most riders who didnt go in the world championships were the ones who were not ambitious were not bothered.Going back to some of those meetings Qualifiers alot of the unknown riders got a blast around for some of them it was the pinnacle of there career.By the way WIE JA you missed nearly all of Wiggies career out? shame on you i didnt no he started in 1989.?
-
Looked back over the years the route to the BRITISH FINAL in 1979. for example was 5- preliminary ROUNDS 18- BRITISH QUALIFYING ROUNDS. LEADING to the top 32- SCORERS going through to the 2 - BRITISH SEMI FINALS 16- GOING THROUGH TO THE BRITISH FINAL 8- GOING THROUGH TO THE COMMONWEALTH . FINAL .at white city. So as you can see there were rounds before the semi finals. I THINK 1982 was the first year the top 32 british riders were seeded through to the two semi finals.IT CERTAINLY isnt like that now is it?
-
You can word it up differently, but really the truth is it will nearly be the same top 8 again and the next 3 spots will be given to people like Bjerre ex],who maybe again outside of the top 8.So in truth out of hundreds of speedway riders there will be a opportunity for probably only 5 or 6 new faces to ride in a world championship.Snooker now is a great example that Speedway can look at not a closed shop the rankings change on a weekly basics and there are opportunities for EVERYONE to qualify and play in every event. Funny thing is Ghostwalker i want those riders you named in it,i want to see the best plusWard but Parsloes point is not everyone in there career now will have a fair chance. In words the system is flawed and is a bit of a closed shop.

I think you ought to go and do a bit of research WIE JA Simon Wigg [in1982] QUALIFIED for his first british final was then a national league rider at the time grasstrack and longtrack was then his main priority.Thorp i think was a double up rider at the time also Yeates has always been mainly a national league rider. The YEARS are a bit different1982 or when you said1989 only a seven year gap?Thorp went on and if anything underachieved what i am am saying is when Wigg qualified for a british final it was a hell of a achievement he had only been riding league racing for a year and a bit. There was a chance for a underdog then and well had you forgot WIE JA? that Wigg was not a star then in 1982 just starting out in his great career .1989 he didnt start at level did he? hard work and talent got him there.
