  1. I’m glad my monicker has evoked such fond memories. As a child of the fifties I only remember the latter days of the Rangers and the odd lower league meets thereafter. Being from the area I have fond memories of those latter days at ‘The Frying Pan’ cheering on Ron Johnson, Reg Luckhurst and ‘Split’ Waterman. A good friend who has a few years on me used to clean Ron Johnson’s bike. Great days!
  2. First time I’ve been to Central Park for a couple of seasons. Great crowd and very impressed by the tenacity of the young team. Great to see the future of the Kings is in such good hands. Well done to all concerned. If
  3. Not too much competitive speedway at Sittingbourne tonight. Ben was a class above and too good for this field by quite a margin. James Shanes rode well as did Aaron, and Danno put on decent show but apart from the occasional bit of aggression from Brendon Johnson there wasn't much 'fight' on show.
  4. Wish I was there for this one but I'm in Greece so will be wishing the boys well from afar and checking updates throughout the evening. Looks a tough one but I think we'll do it but whether we'll do it by enough we'll only have to wait & see. Good luck Kings!
  5. Off for the second time, this match is doomed I tells ya, DOOMED!
  6. Gutted I couldn't make this one, having watched Armstrong a couple of weeks back in the Laurels i didn't think we had a prayer without SL but I'm well pleased for Benji about time he had a change of fortune. Well done boys!
  7. Having driven all the way to Central Park on a couple of occasions only to see cars pulling out of the car park as I'm pulling in due to a cancelled meet I now check the weather at about 4o/c and if rain looks more likely than not I don't bother setting out.
  8. Worrall & Greeenwood were superb tonight guesting for the Kings although apart from Cockle and the overworked James Shanes, Devon never looked like closing the 13 point advantage the Kings held from the first leg all those weeks ago. Again I thought the track rode well after all the criticisms it received after the last Bank Holiday meet. I liked the way 'Magic' Mason rode in heats 9 & 12 guiding Luke Chessell & Danny Ayres around the track for two 5-1's with Chessell & Ayres picking up 3 & 2 points in the respective heats. Although Devon were a couple of riders down they reminded me a little of the Kings early last season when the depth of the side looked a little threadbare, hopefully as the season progresses they'll make a few adjustments and progress as we did. greenwood was superb tonight
  9. After the reports I read about last weeks meet I was surprised to see only one rider come off and he remounted immediately to finish the heat, on what looked a slick but smooth surface. I know we were two riders down but on that display we may struggle until Benji and Brandon return to race fitness.
  10. Great achievement by the lad, well done Ben Morley more of the same please.
  11. I would expect Mason may well be nailed on to captain the side. What a difference 12 months can make

  13. I see we've acquired the I.O.W. team manager, another positive move hopefully.
  14. Peterborough Feb 2nd Winter Cracker OFF. Hardly surprising but at least it's been called off nice and early.
  15. Very pleased to hear this hopefully then the local council will dismiss any complaint about noise and the Kings can continue to progress.
  16. I think Kent have come on leaps and bounds in their inaugural season. Congratulations must go out to everyone concerned with the CTA Fire Kings for a magnificent effort. Sadly however as I was leaving the stadium on Monday night someone happened to mention to me that there are still locals opposed to the operation despite the in my eyes more than reasonable 8.30 curfew, and that there is in fact a letter being distributed locally by a local lady that is calling for the speedway to be stopped! Now as someone that travels 40 miles each way to support the Kings I obviously haven't received or even spied a copy of this letter but it would be very sad after all the hard work if things were ordered to a halt after just one season. I do appreciate that in 'open' areas such as those that surround Central Park the noise can reverberate over quite a distance but being situated in the middle of an industrial estate as it is there seems to me at least very few residential areas within a mile or so radius so how bad can it be? Afterall although the meeting is scheduled for two hours there is only in fact about 25/30 minutes of fully revved up engine noise if you take into account a minute per race, getting to and from the tapes and the odd tuning/warming up from the pits. It would be good to hear from someone that does live in the area to hear their side.
  17. Anyone know if average crowd attendances are available anywhere online? It would be interesting to see the differences between the leagues. Anyone any idea of a 'ballpark' break even figure needed to run a team at National League level?
  18. Sad news indeed RIP Tony Millard and condolences to his family & friends. Sad news indeed RIP Tony Millard and condolences to his family & friends.
  19. Couldn't make it today but a great result. Well done the 'Kings'.
  20. Looking forward to some good racing on Monday. The odds must still favour the Heathens but the Kings are no longer the pushovers they were in the early part of the season. They no longer have to rely on enthusiasm alone, they've improved no end. C'mon The Kings!!!
  21. The tannoy was fine on the top bend, clear as a bell. The Kings were superb the other night their most convincing performance by far albeit against a weak Stoke side. Next week will be a lot tougher but we will at least get a decent gauge on how well The Kings have progressed.
  22. I think the age limitations are fine as they are. You are always going to get the exception to the rule and Robert is that exception in this case. The majority of 15 y/o's would not show the maturity and bike racing nouse that Robert does on the track. He's a great 'British' prospect gaining invaluable experience in Germany, nothing wrong with that in my book.
  23. If Steve can find the right set up in Norfolk there should be some very good racing between him and Lambert. Obviously Lambert has to be favourite with hometrack advantage but whoever comes out on top in that battle might even decide the meeting. Good luck Kings!
  24. Surely in this thread we should be focusing on what a great performance it was by the Kings last night rather than what went on at a previous meeting. I thought they were superb last night albeit against an understrength 'Storm' team. Boxall is beginning to look almost unbeatable around CP at this level. Well done lads all we need now is to up the away performances and add a little more consistency.
