  1. Ok, I need this point clarifying and pretty quick.. So, a team has to have at least 1 British rider at reserve..... First green sheets come out and the aforememtioned Brit has rode himself into the main body of the team, and theres not another Brit in the team that can move down to reserve??????? What happens next???? Cheers Never to Old
  2. Surely, the extreme engine costs are down to riders demanding every last ounce of power out of the motors? Motors being tuned to within an inch of their life, just for rhe extra mile an hour and/or extra half metre off the start line...... Why not ban tuning in any shape or form at the lower levels? So everyone is on the same standard of engine....? Maybe only allow tuned motors in Elite League and above? Would that not make it cheaper at the right end of the sports ladder...... Surely a GM/JRM motor would last considerably longer if left as "out of the box" condition...
  3. I like the play-offs. The reasons in my opinion why speedway has "lost its mojo" as a spectator sport are as follows: 1) Weather, or how it can readily effect our sport. To many rain offs in general, and certainly meetings rained off far to early in some cases, and to late in other cases! Fans dont want to make wasted trips. 2) Team/Rider continuity. Riders not riding for their UK team because of other speedway commitments, fair enough if its world cup/gp and qualifying for it, but not domestic stuff, I know why they do, but prospective and new fans just cannot grasp the scenario.... 3) The guest system, that baffles and puts off new/potential fans alike, smacks of disloyalty to these people.. and takes the professional tag of the sport and puts it in doubt.... 4) Spectator facilties, lots of stadiums not conducive to attracting new fans... Theres other things, but I don't think the play offs are bad for the sport..
  4. When I first started going to Blackbird Rd in the very, very early 70's, there was the 13 heat match, a second half of the "star of the night" a couple of reserves only races and a 3 ht junior match... then, after the rakers and start line staff had left the arena, "The Learners" came out..... black leathers, battered old jap/jawa and all hell would bresk lose!!! It only ended with the lights being turned off or a "Learner" wrecking the fence!! They are what I would have classed as "Wobblers'!
  5. Think Robs point was a very minority sport if you judge it on "live spectator participation" But not minority sport prize money......!! How does a sport like snooker manage to attract such large sponsorship with relatively large prize monies, with no chance of participants getting hurt or dirty or for that matter vast body/clothing/tool areas for the sponsor logos/names/products associated to the sport!!!! Crowds don't make prizes/earnings in some sports, suppose thats the difference...
  6. The after match press conference has been done at LEICESTER this season, its done from the terrace on the first bend, in a football type mini studio with sponsor board behind... Seems to work very well...
  7. Hmmm, some valid points here so far, I will start to create a list/table and collate changes into groups, if I need any clarification on a post as to specific rule change I will ask as soon as I read the post, to keep change ideas together as much as possible. Cheers so far NTO
  8. How about a team of only Brits from the premier league..... 1. Craig Cook 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Please feel free to add.
  9. Use of R/R, & or Guest's, A necessary evil in Team Speedway? I started following speedway in the UK in 1970 (6 yrs old) R/R and Guest riders have always been present, I think the only thing that has changed is the reasons for there use.... The reasons for these necessary evils is firstly to keep a team competitive when missing riders, in them days it was mostly injuries, and foreign riders having to fulfil fixtures in there homeland due to having to. There is not enough money in speedway for a true squad system, that would allow teams to have riders not riding, but still getting paid. What's the main difference now is that there are lots more reasons for riders not being available because they ride in many leagues, world championship gp's, and other speedway disciplines all over Europe. I think its sometimes the REASON for a riders absence, more than his absence itself and how his rides are covered that winds fans up. There are to many reasons now, and non genuine reasons and abuse of this that's the main gripe... I think it should only be when a heat leader is not available should a guest be allowed, of similar standard. I don't know how to replace second strings or reserves yet, but R/R could work for the second strings, not fully worked out a fair and just way for replacing reserves yet One thing is using a guest rider should NEVER be allowed to strengthen a team. Any input?
  10. So meetings ridden continuity is high on your agenda? I agree, a team can be top having ridden 7/8 matches and yet the team propping up the league may have ridden 1 if lucky?
  11. Sensible answers, and who knows? If we present it to the Promotors before the AGM, we should at least expect an answer on why it cannot be changed if its not changed. Please keep the change concise and sensible and I will collate the answers and get the most wanted change to the right person/s before the AGM. Closing Date of October 31st 2013 So, rule change, from what and what to please, a little explanation of why as well please? Cheers; Never Too Old....
  12. I suppose its impossible to team build until league structures are sorted out? Having said that, if the Elite League continues to to dilute its quality, there will be no difference between the 2 leagues!! All riders will ride for 2 teams, one in league A and one in league b with no difference in the leagues standard of racing!! Just split the country North and South and riders can only ride for one team in each area!!!!
  13. Didn't a prem team have a fixture last season on the same day as rhe plrc? Or was I dreaming.....?
  14. So, who do we keep and where to go in 2014? Firstly assume were in the Premier League, same sort of competition as this year as a starting point........
  15. Ok, so what did the weather do during the hours before and during the "rain off" of Rye v Redcar? Could it have gone ahead? Or was the early call off justified........?
  16. Why was the Rye v Redcar meeting off'd? The weather in the midlands has been sunny and warm from around 12:00... Ryes only around 80 miles away as the crow flies, has ryes Weather been poor this afternoon? Because the evening forecast is fine.....? Did uncle Len call it off to early???
  17. Whats do you think will be skys decision on tv speedway next year? Do you think we'll get regular live speedway? Perhaps BT sport might have a pop at it? Or will we be back to the "dark years" with little or nowt to view on the tellybox? Never to old
  18. Jan O'Pedersen is running one tomorrow at Leicester, think you need own equipment though... Worth noting for future reference..
  19. How about the top 5 go into the play offs, teams finishing 7-12th play off for the 6th spot!!!!! eeeeeeeeeeekkkkk!!!! Playofftastic! [Only Joking]
  20. So, let me get this...... not tyre warming before race gets under orders.. But actually having the rear wheel spinning, whilst keeping the bike stationary on the start line, under the green light, therefore having the rear wheel spinning when the tapes go up? Has he done this sort of thing before?
