What Can Be Done For Young British Riders.
skthecat replied to Jonny the spud's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
post="2368321" timestamp="1383917129"] Speedway riders aren't employees, they're self-employed. They bring their own tools and do a specific contracted job. Your local plumber fixing your leak is not going to make "you" any money though, is he? Completely different scenario....... --------------------- The BSPA could chose to give priority to a self-employed British rider, just as I could chose to get my boiler fixed by the self-employed plumber who lives in the next street, rather than call in a plumber from miles away. -

Again, an idea that contravines employment law in Europe....... Need similar, but within freedom of movement & employment law compliance...... doubt there's such a solution. . -
I'm sure in the 70's and 80's, reserves were reserves... They regularly got 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 & possibly 5/6 on really good nights! ! They got the bulk in heat 2, and a point or 2 from being in races with only 3 finishers or less!! They weren't professional reserves, on stupidly low averages, they didn't go out and have 7 rides, getting 15-21 points a meeting and they were either young uns or not far from retirement type riders. ... Having to have "strong" reserves is probably just as much to blame on bringing on kids as does employing dodgy foreigners!!!!!!

And Now For Something Completely Diiferent

Sounds like a plan, works as an idea, could it work on paper and more importantly on track? -
Ditto.. Please can I have permission to view your image please and thank you!!

The more I here and think about it, I am certain the info came from "FROG"! (Leicesters Steve Regeling) so it was around 1982 I think we spoke about it..... Anyone got any pics/video?
-
I am sure that in thw 1980's I saw photos of speedway being ridden on a figure of 8 track.... the footrests on both sides collapsed/folded out of the way and the exhaust silencer was mounted slightly higher to avoid grounding on right hand corners!! Anyone else recall this type of speedway racing event....????

I was just trying to ascertain if this particular role, is in place in other sports, and if so, are they known under a different name.. but do similar work? The promoters seem to get a lot of stick on here, is that common in all sports, or just ours, is there no equivalent in other sports, or do they have a different name, but still get the stick..

Ditto, Done....

Hows about everybody using their REAL NAME instead???? You could still include a nickname as well if so wanted, after all, when you chat in the pub or on the terraces, you don't wear a mask do you.......? (I include myself in this as I use a sort of nickname.... Never Too Old !!!!

Tactical Substitutes - Thinking 'out Of The Box'!

..........................With reference to rider gardening.......................... Years ago at Leicesters Blackbird Rd Track Grading took place after every heat??? Also, the grading impliment was raised as the tractor passed over the start gate, this in effect meant the starting area was untouched once the meeting started...... This meant that all ruts that manifested during the meeting were ALL VISIBLE to the riders which meant they didnt have to UNCOVER decent bits of the starting area, I.E no hidden ruts, perhaps that would speed up races starting????? And, meetings were completed in good time, with tractor grading in between each heat, not after 4, 8 & 14 or when the home team decided..... How did that come about in the first place anyway??? -
They are quite close to the fiery ring finish already in the GP's with the exploding and lit gas cannons at the finish of races already, when I first saw that close up at Cardiff, you could actually feel the heat when they exploded!! And that was approximately 20 metres away, god knows how it felt/sounded when triggered by the riders!! Momentarily blinding/deafening/hot few seconds!!!!!!!

Sounds like Speedway-Sky-Go Speed/Go Speed International have a closed shop, big secret to keep!! Why should clubs not be allowed to show appetiser clips on their own websites? Justcthe sort of bait/hook to capture potential new fans... Have you ever stumbled onto something online, via a short video clip and thought........hmmmmmm, that looks interesting and followed that up by either trying or going to watch whatever it was live if possible?? I know I have... -

Doubling Up - Should It Be Allowed?
skthecat replied to iand's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
[uote name=cyclone" post="2364322" timestamp="1382712988] IMO the greatest impact in the diminishing number of UK riders in the sport is the increasing cost of purchasing and maintaining competitive equipment. Notwithstanding that some are fortunate to be assisted by generous sponsors, they still need to maximise the use of their expensive equipment, hence why doubling up provides an essential return on investment in order to make a decent income. My comment below, should have been a reply in a quote reference the post above.... unfortunately, I could not get the reply with previous posters post to work!!! So here is my comment... So there's another issue..... a rider racing competitively in the elite league, on elite league money, and elite league equipment, then goes racing in the premier league and beats everyone up! I know it technically the other way round, but after a while you tread up the seesaw and suddenly you are an elite league performer, dipping into the premier league and with your elite league wealth, your elite league equipment, maxing everywhere you ride, time to move up permanently.. -

Thats a Belle Vue track trick isn't it? Bowser problems, leaking water all over the track!! -
These stadia that are not owned by the speedway fraternity, mostly seem to be dog venues, why then are Birmingham and Wolverhampton fairly ok facility wise/cleanliness, which others are not?

Doubling Up - Should It Be Allowed?
skthecat replied to iand's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Fair comment, but if you make a list of em' thats got to up there, surely? Can you imagine (I am not a footy fan, so please bare with my an analogy) David Beckham playing for Man Utd Saturday, then turning out for Macclesfield on the Tuesday!! Or any footy player, cricketer, rugby player turning out for two different clubs!! -
Doubling Up - Should It Be Allowed?
skthecat replied to iand's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I think that the the elite league and premier league are now far to close to each other in rider ability wise, if you take Woffy out of the elite league they are british rider ability wise. This needs to be re balanced and the only way to do this is for the top Brits in the Premier League to go Elite League and promote National League top uns into the Premier League. ... MDL etc into the national league. Perhaps this would naturally decrease double upping because the ability gap would be much larger than it is now between PL and EL? I also think that double ups should be allowed only for one season, and and if they don't make the grade they stay premier. No way should a Premier League Heat Leader be capable of being a Heat Leader in the Elite League!!!! That really is micky mouse rules.... & it shouldn't happen, because the gap between riders abilities between the leagues is not large enough, if it was, the rule would self govern itself...
