Was sunny this morning, clouded over by 11 as per BBC forecast but apart from that, still dry. -
Risk...acceptable Or Unacceptable?
Star Lady replied to customhouseregular's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I seriously doubt that any F1 participant went into the sport for the rewards. They go into it because of the excitement, the buzz, the I'm beating the risk factor. The same goes for any high risk activity....mountaineering, rallying etc. speedway is no different,. Injuries are terrible, horrible, awful consequences of all high risk activities, it's something we all have to accept. -
You want the thread hidden as a mark of respect but YOU quoted the opening post when there was absolutely no need. Holier than thou who cannot practice what he preaches comes to mind

Given the weather forecast for Monday that shouldn't be a problem -
Doesn't seem to be much interest in this one So I thought I'd start the thread before it gets rained off

Not the point, as I think you know. Really can't be arsed to write what I really think. elite League just isn't worth the effort anymore. -

And they wonder why folk are so pissed off with speedway . Biggest meeting of the season for KL and possibly Swindon, massive effect on Belle Vue too. What facility is available? NL replacement or 6pt PL rider? -

Cheers for that, missed that one when I skimmed the fixture list. -

A question for those that know the rules. Do the rules allow any of the play off contenders to sign a rider from a club whose fixtures have been completed. I believe Lakeside finish their fixtures tonight and I know there is a cut off for new signings, don't know the date. Just wondering if any club is awaiting fixture list completion to sign a rider who has been committed to Britain rather than signing a foreigner who may or may not turn up. -
Well the Fast track riders seem to manage. If to get BRITISH speedway back on track some journeyman foreigners lose out, watch me smile. If the sport cannot get fans in because of the costs, then the costs, to both fans and riders, are too high. If it means riders learn to tune their own engines etc, so be it. Depends what you want really, to see GP riders disappear miles in front of the field on super fast bikes or 4 riders on less shiny bikes that actually provide some racing. Cut the speed, if I want to see drag racing I'd go to Santa Pod. Maybe if the costs weren't so high a few more youngsters would find taking up the sport on a part time basis more viable. I realise my views are radical, but after 50 years it's the best I can come up with, if you don't like them fine.

That's why I suggested Rory Schlien get involved. Anyone who went to his testimonial will tell you it was So far above what passes for an evening at speedway nowadays it was a totally different product.

King's Lynn V Coventry Wed 19th August
Star Lady replied to mdmc82's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I never for one moment doubted that King was suffering from his back injury. My problem is with the rules allowing a rider who is clearly not fit being allowed to ride and then being replaced when sense prevails and he finds the "old" injury too painful. I say again I'm not complaining about Coventry using irr (or King for that matter), but the rule itself. -
All the tinkering in the world won't solve the basic problem of getting people in the stadiums in the first place. Radical solution. In 2016 all clubs charge maximum of a tenner, if riders don't like the pay cut let them ride off into Sweden/Poland/BSI for a season. Combine it with an extreme sport type advertising campaign that can be honed to each track and then hopefully You have to get folk to come back. Best suggestion I have for that is get Rory Schlien to write "The Way Forward" not promoters who have been there, done it and failed miserably.

Thanks for putting the wording on here. Doesn't change my opinion that the rule is open to manipulation and needs to be worded better. (I am not accusing Coventry BTW) -

Of course he would query it, so would Havvy if situation reversed I would hope. I would never advocate a rider putting his health in jeopardy. I don't deny losing King weakened you, as Lindgren strengthened Lynn, but they were both done to the rules. It's the rules that are at fault. -

Back injury from last week(?) aggravated when he fell at Somerset Tuesday. Havvy said he couldn't stand up straight but appeared to be straight when interviewed after pulling out. There again Havvy didn't know he rode on Tuesday -

Doesn't make I right tho. Rob didn't make a fuss, interviewed on Sky he said the rule was "one of the grey ones", don't think anyone would disagree with that generalisation. In both the above case the injuries were genuine whenever caused but the rule is open to shall we say manipulation by unscrupulous clubs. Those kind of rules need to be either binned or reworded to avoid manipulation. Possible solution is if a team arrive with a rider carrying an injury they have the option of the meeting medic examining him. If themedic declares him fit to ride they cannot use irr unless there is an obvious cause i.e. a fall. Of course the team would tak the risk that the medic could declare the rider unfit but that would be their choice. -
You either work with averages or with grades, you can't select a team from one system and use the other for selecting guests. As it happens I think grades should be used for the lot but you cannot pick and choose which system suits you best.

I know one match is hard to judge on but will be interesting to see if he jumps tonight at Swindon with Rob Lyon as his TM. To be honest Havvy doesn't fill you with confidence when he admits on TV that he didn't know King (his injured rider) was riding the night before and suffered another fall.....but hey each to their own. -
This is where your argument falls down. Lynn's heatleaders are NKI, Lambert and Milik. The latter two are heatleaders so why should we have a second string guest for them?

Me too, it's just another of speedway rules that are open to being bent. Not accusing Coventry here and as SCB hasn't been kind enough to tell us the exact wording of the rule so innocent until proven guilty Having said that I've said all season if Lynn didn't win the league (Bloody Silly Play Offs) I would like to see Coventry do it. -

Funny that I can remember massive crowds for play offs in October. It's Sky that don't like it because if one is rained off it's mucks their schedule up. The sport should be run for riders and fans not for the convenience of a TV company.
