How Do We Attract A New Young Audience?
Star Lady replied to PHILIPRISING's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
y Same at Lynn but nothing stopping the riders walking round the bottom of the terracing...the crowds aren't big enough to be unsafe....not sure about the terracing at ?Brandon tho That was pretty decrepit last time I went for a wander. -
How Do We Attract A New Young Audience?

The riders can do a lot to help. How many of them interact with the fans. You may get the occasional vertical arm in the air on a parade lap but very few of them do much more. I get sick or riders spending longer "gardening" at the tapes than they do racing and they then disappear into the pits faster than you can say 5-1. They need to add to the entertainment factor. They could easily do celebration wheelies, make them individual like football goal celebrations. The odd kick at a bike when they lose. There are loads of "pantomime" actions they could do. It may be slightly fake but kids and big kids love it, they feel involved and that riders care. That on its own won't solve anything but every little helps. -
But at least you get news about Lynn on Twitter! Happy New Year to all.

How Do We Attract A New Young Audience?
Star Lady replied to PHILIPRISING's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Sun breaks certainly existed at Lynn in the 90s and were just as frustrating. I remember being in the office one evening when Buster burst in in somewhat of a rage (putting it mildly) because a meeting had had to be halted for the sun, not for the first time. He said if he had to buy tinted visors/goggles for all 14 riders and forcing them to use them to avoid it happening again he would. As we still have sun breaks to this day and I never saw them being used I assume tinted visors etc do not solve the problem of safe vision. Screamer. altho I totally get where you are coming from regarding the facilities. To contrast Old Trafford (the home of probably the richest club in Britain) with Saddlebow Road, which is AFAIK owned by one man is a bit unfair. Especially when that one man provides better facilities than almost all the other stadia used for speedway. Can't be bothered to address the topic title It's been done to death on here in the past and the promoters don't take the slightest bit of interest so why waste our efforts pointing things out to them. If they really want to know all they have to do it walk round the terracing and ask. -
How Do We Attract A New Young Audience?

GRW, I wonder just how much speedway revenue as opposed to revenue from Bangers and Stocks have contributed to the improvements. I'm not knocking Buster's efforts at all but to put them all down to speedway is very misleading. As Trees says the atmosphere around speedway at Lynn at present is far from good. It could easily be remedied but attitudes of a couple of people need to change fast or it could be too late to get it back to what it was a few short years ago. -
We did indeed stand together on the terraces at Cradley Heath. I also remember the pain and anguish your family went thro in the aftermath of the crash. My aging memory cannot put the two together I do remember some very choice words used by you via a megaphone aimed at Messrs Hamill and Hancock (and they were fully deserved I might add ). I remember that every time someone compares Hancock with Nicki Pedersen saying Nicki is a dirty rider (they didn't see what we witnessed that night). I don't think it was the crash involving Morten tho.

Are Outside Forces At Work

I didn't attempt to speak for anyone except myself which as other intelligent forum members have said is why I used the words " I believe " *with apologies to The Batchelors" -
Trying a slightly different approach A popular, articulate and intelligent member of this community has been banned. No one knows exactly why, although various thoughts have been voiced. Whilst I respect absolutely the right of the forum owner to ban whomsoever he wishes, the vast majority of members that have posted on various threads about this seem to think a ban is an over reaction. My dear old Mum always taught me that "sticks and stones may break your bones but names will never hurt you" and that's a maxim I've adhered to all my life. I cannot understand why anyone gets upset because a certain combination of letters either spoken or written can cause anyone to be offended. If you don't like it, ignore it. What I'm trying to say is I believe that on the information we as ordinary forum members of this community have, the ban is unjustified. EDIT I see an explanation has now been given and I accept that and thank Phil for posting it. I am leaving the majority of the above because it applies IMHO equally to many cases.

Yes it's a BOGOF offer along with BSPABullsh1t

So Rob Lyon has said there will be no announcements about the final 2 riders until the new year. For anyone who doesn't speak Norfolk that's translated as " we ain't got no one, and ain't got a clue who we can get". I still blame NKI for keeping Lynn dangling so long
-
Certainly true that Lynn, if not the wider speedway community miss JC , even his spelling has improved nowadays Lynn have missed a trick. For a team that have a commercial manager what happened to the announcements being made on Thursdays at 7.45pm? That actually made a lot of sense, getting fans into the mindset of speedway on Thursdays. Even an announcement last night (Thursday)that no rider would be revealed but negotiations are ongoing would have continued the theme. Even better why not delay the announcement of the Rory Evening for a couple of days and announce that last night at 7.45. FFS they didn't even start selling the tickets at 7.45. but did it at 8. Maybe that's a portent of things to come and 2016 meetings being delayed For the sake of 2-3 days advance publicity IMHO it would have been worth the delay. The theme of Thursday 7.45pm announcements could be continued throughout the close season, there will be 2 more rider announcements, new race suits, new sponsors (hopefully), new rider sponsors, P & P day times etc. All of which could easily cover every week between now and the new season. Press releases can always be sent out in advance under an embargo so the media can publish on the Friday morning (it's always worked in the past). But hey what do I know, I'm a mere fan with no training in publicity or commercialism. If you think I'm wrong just look at the number of posts/tweets made last night when fans obviously expected something/anything. I also apologise if anyone was misled by my post that someone (i.e. not me) had said Radio Norfolk had mentioned that a new rider would be announced today.
-
I'm still pinning my hopes on Buster saying the team will be exciting. If he now signs Bjerre I reckon he has a case to answer under Trades Description Act
-
Someone said Radio Norfolk mentioned it would be Friday. Much depends whether Troy knows in advance
-
Maybe the change of personnel in the team will lead to a change of track prep. I can't believe that Buster would prepare a track that his biggest points scorers disliked.
-
I really cannot see where Bjerre would fit in. Yes points wise he would but EXCITING.....nah. Buster said exciting, that's what I'm pinning my hopes on cos I like the look of the team so far. I know I'm not a regular but last season if NKI had a bit of an off night there was no one to take up the challenge once Rory was injured and score a shed load of points. Certainly Bjerre/Porsing never looked likely to. In 2016 we have a team full who can do just that on occasion. So if one of them has an off night, another might (just might) make up for it. Even Troy (who seemed to struggle under pressure at Swindle) might surprise us all amongst that lot. I've always said I don't care about winning I just want to be entertained and the team so far is looking decidedly entertaining. Even if it's only throwing the occasional strop
-
Macrame is looking less interesting by the hour😀
-
If certain riders were in the team, macramé would win every time.....put a macramé rider on a bike and it would probably beat them too
-
Awwwww thanks, always knew you loved me really
-
Wonder why season ticket prices haven't been announced yet. How can you buy one as a Crimbo pressie if you don't know the cost?
-
Has Troy let the cat out of the bag? His tweet could be a day early
-
I thought Buster said he wanted 2016 to be exciting. Hardly an apt description of Bjerre
-
Well I blame NKI . If he had pulled his finger out and made a decision earlier none of this blame game would have happened. I am only half joking.
-
If Batchelor is our no 1 , I'll find a macrame class on Thursday evenings. If we have an exciting racer at number one I might give handicrafts a miss.
-
I find the change of race night somewhat puzzling. Lynn obviously thought NKI was likely to return and even last season rode on Thurs to accommodate his Danish commitments so a simple change to Thurs would seem to have been logical weeks ago. I have a feeling there is far more go this than we know so far. To be honest the only Danes all this kerfuffle would justify is Nicki (sadly not to be) or Kildemand. I'm just wondering if it's all for a non Dane who has already signed for a Danish club. Or maybe I'm dreaming again
