  1. My aged memory seems to remember rumours that riders didn't like it cos it was harder work and they got no extra for it, but I could be going senile I agree bring it back at least extra effort has to be put in to justify double points. Wearing a black and white tablecloth to get double points for stuff all is a waste of time
  2. You have to begin to wonder if the rest of the track will eventually encounter the same unexpected defects that have materialised on bends 3 & 4. I sincerely hope not but it does seem that the contractors, whoever controls theml, are somewhat less than ideal. Someone has made a right pigs ear of all this.
  3. The BSPA did when he suggested training camps for Team GB. Woofy didn't attend. I don't do booing
  4. Well here's a prediction for you In the 10th season since that happened, he will ride in the UK and be granted a testimonial
  5. That may well be the case but the peripherals that went with it were so much more entertaining. Norris and Dugard baiting fans at Lynn was worth the admission alone. Shane Parker at Ipswich commandeering the tractor. Hancock & Hamill (neither of whom I like particularly) guaranteed to team ride, brilliantly, at least once a meeting. Winning riders did a lap of honour almost without exception. Losing riders lost their rag quite obviously, stomping their way back to the pits. Joe Screen and his magnificent wheelies. Speedway admission should never be about 15 heats alone, entertainment has to be provided as well. The onus of that falls as much on the riders as it does on the promoters.
  6. Sorry to hear you've not been well, hope you recover soon. The longer you are away the less the inclination to return. Absence seems to give you far too much time to find negatives, and sadly they multiply all the time and I've seen no attempt to stop them from the BSPA. I miss going to see a "good" meeting but in all honesty when I have made the effort to get to EL meetings at Lynn, good wouldn't describe what I've seen. Like you I don't think one decent race constitutes good value. My visits to Peterborough tho and an occasional NL meeting at Lynn, have kept my interest alive.
  7. before you post an epistle Multumesc when the promoter tells you he doesn't want a supporters club you either laugh or cry. I Always Look On The Bright Side of Life
  8. Probably because he didn't want them to in case they succeeded I may not like him but I have him down as a very astute cookie. He knows exactly what he is doing.
  9. Well said. Doesn't matter if he's British, Swedish or from Timbuktoo some people just don't like him. I'm one of them. I fail to see why I should pretend otherwise just to appease the "you have to support him cos he's British" brigade. No idea why that makes me sad or pathetic rather than honest. For the record I don't like Greg Hancock either . Most other GP riders I'm ambivalent about with the exception of Nicki Pedersen who I love.
  10. Not often I like a post by Steve Shovlar but agree with this one, altho I'd prefer absolute silence when he is announced, he's not worth the effort of booing
  11. Been there, done that It's not quite that easy. First you have to find a supplier who will either trust you with their stock or find a heck of a lot of money to stock the shop. Then you have to staff it, find someone to do stock control, do the accounts etc. Get to meetings mega early and stay late to clear up, count money etc. It can be done with a good team of helpers but it is one heck of a commitment and without some brilliant guys and gals to help would be impossible. It was good fun but ruddy hard work. Before you ask, no I wouldn't do it again
  12. Whilst I agree wholeheartedly with you, those days are gone. Norris and Parker would have received life bans if they had tried their party pieces nowadays, but as you say people always remember them even if they have forgotten the races that happened the same night. Lynn fans looked forward with relish to the visits of Eastbourne. UK clubs meant a lot to riders then, nowadays they are just one of several. Just an observation, but several riders tweet every week about how they are looking forward to racing for their clubs in Poland. Those same riders rarely, if ever, tweet about looking forward to racing for their UK club. I wonder why
  13. Not really, think they have had their day. Sad in many ways cos they help provide a feeling of community in a small way, something lacking at Lynn nowadays. they are also good for arranging transport to away meetings.
  14. Thanks Danny. Saw his Mums tweet this morning but agree the silence is worrying.
  15. Sorry but no. Could be 3 or 4 people taking pics but not periscoping all in the same general area, so that doesn't PROVE anything except that their phones are raised in their hands.
  16. Be even better if David Rowe had a new partner in crime
