  1. Yesterday and today (so far) may have been dry but it wasn't drying weather. It was misty, damp and almost no breeze at all. Any moisture in the ground would have stayed exactly where it is as would moisture in heaps of "dry" shale. i played petanque yesterday on gravel and every time we walked there was water in our footprints, the ground is that waterlogged. I'm no apologist for Buster but I cannot fault his reasoning for calling this one off.
  2. Yes speedway is dangerous we all know that including those who choose to make their living that way. As for bangers being a hobby not a professional sport, if it brings in the crowds to the point where profits are made surely it's worth speedway looking at it as a business model, i.e. riders going semi-professional (as they were in days of old). At least that way the sport might just last into the 2020s
  3. And all I've said is that in general I do agree with you but in this particular set of circumstances, which I explained, I don't.
  4. I've always assumed that the promoter paid them in some form or other in the same way as they pay mileage or at least overseas riders points money is proportionately higher than UK riders. You'll be telling me next they don't pay mileage either
  5. So you are quite happy for the promotion to pay out for airfares for both teams when given the appalling weather for the last few weeks all right minded people realise there is no hope of a decent meeting being staged. Remember this isn't any run of the mill meeting, this was the first of the season where they hopefully would pull in a few newbies and therefore want to put on a good show. Not only that it was also the meting when quite a few regular fans were going to judge the quality of the 2018 season and the way meetings would be run. Bridges had to be rebuilt with those fans and a late call off or prolonged display of tractor driving skills would simply alienate many of them, possibly forever. As I said, I'm no fan of early call offs, but given ALL the circumstances in this particular case, the right decision was made, both as regards fans and as a business. Later in the season and given better overall weather, I agree call offs should not be made until the day of the meeting.
  6. It is also possible that the car park is waterlogged, if not flooded. I'm not that much in favour of early call offs but think this one is justified.
  7. IF they have actually put any hard cash in of course.
  8. I think the problem is Trees never has anything even slightly negative to say about the club. Even the most ardent supporter cannot believe it's perfect so this leads to folk assuming Trees lives in a slightly unreal world when it comes to the Stars. Having said that I have nothing but the greatest respect for Trees and all her work for the supporters club. Knowing her as I do I'm sure she puts far more hours into it than most of us think possible.
  9. It's off BREAKING | WEDNESDAY OFF No prospect of racing v Leicester this Wednesday - new date to follow.
  10. I have quite a few special memories of speedway but that day, and in particular the manner that Lee beat Ray Wilson has to be in the top 3. Where did it all go so badly wrong.
  11. And that one is so simple it's brilliant, names interchangable.....and copyright free! Now where's that Robin Brindle fella
  12. Agreed. Possible side effect of the clocks would be the crowd counting down the seconds when time gets critical, all adds to the atmosphere
  13. I really cannot understand why anyone can not blame the riders for not knowing the rules. Imagine the uproar if a footballer didn't know the offside rule or a rugby player was ignorant of the high tackle rule. They are supposedly professionals. People in any walk of life should know the rules of their employment. Yes the team manager should make sure the riders know the rules. From tweets last night, the riders were told by their respective managers, which proved exactly how much notice they take of them As for the need for such a rule, that's beside the point. I assume they thought it would speed up meetings, which it won't. Anyway if we have to blame someone for the rule the blame lies purely at the feet (or should that be the shovel) of one Tai Woffinden
  14. We moan at the BSPA for not being professional but the riders really should read the rule book. The fans know the new rules why dont the riders. Almost as if they don't care.
  15. Agreed( bet that shocked you) but it should have been started weeks ago so a costume could be made ready for the start of the season. As it is the first meeting is April 4th and the competition ends 10 days later. As for the name suggestion : Wendy the Wheel...can you imagine the comments
  16. Has anyone found anything postive posted about this anywhere. Even Trees has been quiet....or is she practising her singing
  17. I said the idea is good but it needs a tune with some ooomph. I understand rock anthems would involve copyright fees it for heavens sake there are dozens of pieces of classical music that are well known and would adapt to a sports anthem providing they had decent words. off the top of my head Beethovens Fifth with Here they all come The Kings Lynn Stars as the first two lines for example.
  18. I can imagine 1 or 2 will while the rest of the crowd fall about laughing. Still it will provide entertainment during the long tractor grades To be serious the idea is good but the execution is abysmal in all respects. Not exactly get up and go music more like a dirge Words are carp is that really a Rock Choir, sounds more like Girl Guides.
  19. good lord just when I thought things might be getting better Lynn go back to the 1940s. What next Ging Gang Gooly? ,
  20. Simple - member of track staff pulls rope across the opening in lieu of a gate.
  21. If we are talking TV let's go a stage further. It is very difficult to tell one home rider from another (and away rider) by helmet colour alone especially on TV. If each rider had a lycra* (or similar) top that fits over kevlars, said top could still have all the team sponsors, and individual ones on. The kevlars underneath could be to the riders own design and worn abroad or in individual meetings. Such tops would be far cheaper to replace when riders are sacked or signed mid season. Riders in blue obviously have tops with blue as the base colour, Riders in red have a red base etc. *The tops must be tailored or stretch and not baggy flappy things. I agree with all the comments about baggy tops/bibs etc not being professional but surely a top that fits and looks smart to go over kevlars is not impossible to achieve.
  22. It will if they decide to hold practice sessions/training/fitness camps like the Poles, regardless of the UK leagues. If the franchisee really wants success it could very well be the scenario.
