those were the days, something to smile about.
Star Lady replied to hyderd's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I'm going to have to disagree with the top paragraph. I cannot for the life of me see how faster racing means better racing. Back in the day, races were slower BUT there were almost no super duper professionally tuned engines so as I recall the races were closer. Sure some bikes were tied together with string but that didn't impact on rider skill. As for the sport being more professional nowadays, sorry it's not. Yes riders spend thousands more than they did in the past but that doesn't make it more professional, just more costly for all concerned. They look the part but the racing is no better than before. Had promoters however put the same amount of effort etc into their part of the sport I might be more in agreement with you. -
One of the problems I have with the long drawn out naming is the effect on potential sponsors and therefore the riders. Now I realise that Riss et al can go to companies and get sponsorship but they would have to say don't tell anyone I'm riding for Lynn until the second week in March. I need some dosh/goods now to get ready for the start of the season but you can't say anything yet. I'm not sure how that benefits the company cos THEY then lose out on some weeks of publicity and media exposure. At least that's how I see it. Maybe if I'm wrong someone connected to a rider/ex-rider could tell me how it works. I appreciate the need to have weekly press releases but anyone with a modicum of intelligence could do that without the ridiculous scenario we have this year.

I think he's made it worse in some ways. He doesn't seem to have grasped the mindset of speedway fans. His way may be fine for other businesses but speedway is a different world.

As I cannot see Buster ever providing the entertainment factor that would equal the price. Nor riders providing the racing I like (mainly the fault of modern engines & tuners). You are probably right but if I didn't care I wouldn't bother trying to put forward an alternative view to the one you and others hold. I'd venture to suggest there are far more dissatisfied ex fans than there are happy clappers on the terraces and that ought to tell promoters something, if only they would open their ears.
-
Me too. I'm just allergic to rose tinted glasses.
-
Quite a few have told Buster and other promoters what they want. Did they listen, did they do anything? The answer is a big fat NO. So it gets to the point when folk say, why bother.
-
Going on previous regard for fans views, I wouldn't hold your breath!

K comes before R and T in the alphabet

If you feel that strongly, organise a protest. Get everyone to enter the car park offering a £20 note for the parking fee. I guess the ensuing chaos might be the only think the promotion will take notice of Personally I think it will be chaotic at the first meeting anyway as this has not been well advertised (making no comment ) so many won't have change ready to hand and queues will build.
-
You'll be fine parking for free in the field too....bonus
-
Just in case anyone missed this in the small print of the press release Car Parking:Field - Free ParkingMain car parks - £1.00

do they still print results in newspapers? From memory they only named the top scorers and with all due respect to him, I doubt he will be amongst them
-
Fine but exactly how many people who read it nationwide will make a trip to the Lynn terraces? Not enough to counteract the number of Lynn fans they have alienated who won't be there
-
Speedball you are far too intelligent and well qualified to be media consultant for Lynn speedway Enjoy your footie ground hopping and occasional speedway outing
-
Doesn't explain why they did two "big" announcements in one day
-
We've heard for weeks that Lynn are dragging out the release of the team to maximise media exposure. What happens they announce a team member on the same day as they announce a new team sponsor. Can anyone explain how this maximises media exposure
-
I assume the drip feed logic is attempting to keep the advertising budget ( a laugh in itself) low. The thought process being if we are in the paper and on social media we don't need billboards, school visits, 2 for 1 type promotions to get fans through the turnstiles. It doesn't work. When Jonathan was around so was advertising/promotions etc and there were plenty of new faces on the terraces. Keeping them there is a whole different ball game which can't be solved by Lynn alone.

Seven separate press releases yes, I get that, but there is no need to leave it this long. It just leads to the ridiculous PR about the team training for the season when they could only show one rider as only two had been named. Name two or three before Christmas then the others one a week after that. Once the team has been named that's the time to issue training PRs when all riders could be pictured surely. At least that makes sense to me.
-
Pretty obvious really. Four rider places left, four names not told to fans. Basically that's all fans want to know in the close season. Don't say fans are told about fitness training cos be honest who the hell cares that they are training in a gym, unless you follow gymnastics. just my opinion
-
Fully understand that, as I've had to do that many times in the past. You shouldn't go on social media and say you know something paying fans don't.
-
Even more annoying disrespectful is those connected to Lynn tweeting that they know the team but aren't telling. Seems fans are not only second class citizens in the promotions eyes.
-
Excellent point!
-
You have hit on Busters fiendish plan to cut costs. All teams to consist of a pair
-
Thanks Tellboy. I don't keep up with all the goings on nowadays.

It will be interesting to see if live speedway on BT on Mondays has any effect on the crowd numbers. Presuming there is a clash of course. Are Monday and Thursday now the UK days for speedway or is Lynn avoiding Wednesday due to the clash with Denmark?
