No Sky Speedway = A New Opportunity
michaelcroucher replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
quite a good article but with seeing a speedway match the next day would not be a problem. ITs not like football where the tv tells you the score all weekend and sometimes during the week. You cant gtet away from football scores but speedway is differant from football. To find out the speedway score 24hrs before they show it you would have to go onto the club website or BSPA or the forum. IF you keep away from it you wouldnt knwo the score. Its easy, just dont look at the socre. -
No Sky Speedway = A New Opportunity

just one problemm not everyone that watches speedway on tv lives near a track. if i went once a week to my local track im looking at £150 to £200 a month. I can spend half that and stay at home and watch it on my tv if i wanted to, and im sure there are more people out there like me. much better idea adn the moeny could go to the club. that way the club is making more money. I would pay for that. -

This is quite a good idea but there is only thing. I looked into this last year to stream speedway matches via the internet. The only problem is to stream you need a licence to broadcast the stream which doesn’t come cheap. If the person is a Millionaire not a problem. You don’t have to have great equipment to stream at tracks as this can be done via own equipment and doesn’t cost lots of money. The problem is if the person doesn’t have great internet connection and PC then it won’t show that well. I stream a lot at home which is one thing but when you are streaming broadcasts then you are in a different league. If sky don’t show speedway next year then why can’t someone like Eurosport take it on. They show SGP and the WC what not to say they are happy with it. Then that way you can pay £5.99 a month and watch it on any device. For example Xbox, PC, Tablet etc. If I was a sky customer and watch speedway and knew that sky was not going to show the speedway I would get in touch with Eurosport and tell them. If more and more people contact them then they would probably do something about it as the ratings would go up as more people would subscribe to it. Also if you have BT sport then you can also get British Eurosport so not just sky customers should get in contact everyone should. Its not just sky out there anymore other companies are out there and give a much better service. -
With lots of pages on this already I will admit that I haven’t read all the pages. I do know about that the GRA at Wimbledon only makes enough money to break even on a night but they don’t get enough money to pay back the money they borrowed. I also know that they have until March to get things sorted otherwise Merton Council will start looking at other plans to have other sport at Wimbledon. AFC have been in talks to the GRA for about 2 years now but they cannot give their plans to the council until March. I hope at some point that speedway does return to Wimbledon but I don’t think it will be anytime soon which is a shame as I grow up around Wimbledon Speedway. The reason the name was taken out that I don’t have control over this and I did put his name down put the powers of this forum must of taken it out.

I hope this helps and I don’t mean to upset anyone. The chances of Speedway returning soon wil not happen why? You ask well the AFC have put planning application into the Merton council to have a football club there in about 4-5 year’s time. In the meantime Merton council have spoken to local residents about what they would like to see at the ground. Most of them have said that they don’t need anymore homes in the area and they would like to see sport there especially a football club. A person who I work with is involved with AFC and they have missed the deadline for next year but they are planning for the ground to be ready for with 5 years. If and this IF speedway does return to Wimbledon it will not be for at least for 5 years. I also have someone else at work who’s mum races greyhounds at Wimbledon and thy have been told that greyhounds might not last there much longer as they are not making money. So I hope speedway does return to Wimbledon but it wont be soon. And before anyone asks im not related to the # Name Removed # who use to have run speedway at Wimbledon.

All depends on how you read it. With sky on board or not speedway may not last in this country. So as i say all depends on how you want to read into it

To all I have not been on here for nearly a season now and still see that some people like to have ago on here at other people. As many of you know that I don’t have sky but I do have Polish Sat. This means that even tho the speedway has finished in Poland I have had a good season with Polish, Swedish league. It is different to sky sports showing speedway. I have BT which means I get Bristish Eurosport and must say what great work they have done for the GPs and the other meetings they have shown. Going back to the topic speedway will never get big crowds like Poland and Sweden as the promoters do not do there bit in this country to get big crowds. TV companies like NC+ in Poland are on a different league to Sky and even the Swedish Satellite are on different wave lengths if you get what I mean. Clubs in this country rely on Sky for their money. If sky does not sponsor the season I really don’t know what clubs will do. I have also been to a few grasstrack meetings this year and even in the pits people are talking about speedway aboard and not in this country. I have been to a few meetings this year in UK and got to admit it has been good racing. Speedway really needs to work at something for it to stay in this country but I don’t know what the answer is. I do find that people in this forum doesn’t always help with things by putting people down and saying things that they really don’t know about. Im sure are reading this and saying well you don’t know much and what are you talking about but when you have money to go abroad and watch Speedway from other countries that are just unreal then you will understand this msg. Im sure I will get some negative feedback from this but if people think speedway will last in this country with Sky on board then think again.

Sky. A Wasted Opportunity
michaelcroucher replied to rob tatum's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I agree that promoters did get greedy but not all promoters are the same. Sky should of seen this and maybe done something about not going back to the greedy clubs. Not all the promoters are the same. Sky didnt always show the best matches. The thing that makes speedway work in other countries is the tv showing and how the promot speedway. We have always had sky just showing speedway and no one to touch them. Now there are compianes that can take on sky hopefully one of the tv compaines can do something when sky dont want to show speedway anymore. -
Sky. A Wasted Opportunity
michaelcroucher replied to rob tatum's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Lets face it sky don’t care about speedway. They haven’t done for a long time. When you phone up and ask about speedway they go er whats that. Im not with sky and I haven’t been for a little while now. Sky have missed out on lots of speedway they prefer to show football and have always done. For what I was paying to watch league meetings on sky it was a joke. What sky should of done was to show more meetings and not just league meetings. I know they also showed the GPs but they never showed the GP qualifiers. Also they never showed the cup matches so when you look at it sky is a joke. Now BT have come on the tv and its about time someone takes on Sky I think sky are really under pressure. I know BT don’t show speedway but you can’t say what’s going to happen in the future. Sky have missed out on lots of opportunities to show other non-league speedway and also not just elite league over the years they have just decided not to. When I had sky I never understood why they never showed lower league racing more on the TV. Some PL matches can be just as exciting as an Elite league and the crowds can be just as more -

I like this topic as i have said for a long time speedway can be expensive for a night out for some poeple. Alot of people still think speedway is a cheap night out but when you look at the % on how much it has gone up they might think agian, but i think not. Wish i was on the £69,000 per year wage tho.

Please Go Middlo
michaelcroucher replied to skeletor's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
What speedway needs is for the BSPA to sort it out. Its not always the manager that has to go but yes Middlo has to go as well as Harris. Scotty should of been to ride in the Europen side then he would of been in the team. I was at the race off and UK just didnt look like a team they havent done for quite a few years. What we need is for the BSPA to stand up and see what they are doing wrong. Its not rocket science. -
Next Wed 17th 9pm on ITV 4 they are going to show speedway on the motorbike show. Its about time.

Value For Money Speedway Vs Grasstrack
michaelcroucher replied to michaelcroucher's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
The thing I was trying to get across was not that grasstrack is better than speedway but value for money. I wouldnt go week in week out but when money is hard for some poeple then grasstrack is great for a weekend away and some action. Yesterday the racing was great and i know what you are saying about the simon wiggs. I can remeber the days when you had quite a few top speeway riders racing grasstrack but now only a few. But the topic is about value for money. You can pay £30 for a speedway meeting a see some great racing but you can pay £30 for a weekend and see some great racing to. Regards to who one and did i care well of course and i didnt know any rider. I dont know what you mean about the cyfra+ card, and with no variety then you must be silly. Well im glad that i dont listern to most people on here because you have your views and i have mine. I still think for £30 for a weekend of good racing is still money saving. The way i see it i still can get to see some great racing and save moeny. the money i save means i can go aborad and see some the big meetings like the World cup and GP. If went to speedway meetings in this country all the time i couldnt go abroad. -
On Sat I took my wife to her first Grasstack meeting near Wimborne. We went for the weekend and stayed there camping. The sun was out and great racing for 2 day. The best thing about it, it only cost me £30 for the 2 of us and that was with camping. Lots of racing and my wife said she would go to another one. If we went to a league meeting of speedway it would of cost just a bit more and not so much racing. My wife said as someone like herself not really into bikes grasstrack was fantastic. We got to go away people were a lot friendlier than at speedway. She can’t wait to go to the next meeting. So to weigh it all up grasstrack is better value for money than speedway. It looks like less speedway meetings for me and more grasstrack.
