  1. The race card has served its purpose, but for me it is time to move on and ditch it. Question is how many race cards actually get filled in, when me and SKJ go we get two racecards yet only one gets filled in, which really is a waste of time and energy for the Promotion. One thing I was going to suggest before the new Promotion made the decision to go with a a programme was to.: Stick with the race card.and have a monthly Fanzine type publication, that might satisfy both sets of fans those who would like the traditional programme and those who would like to see the racecard stay.
  2. I think the problem with season tickets is down to the fact that the new promotion have very little time to prepare for the season, and maybe other issues have taken over as importance. As was pointed out at the recent STAARS. The air fence is a massive issue and raising funds for what will be the biggest air fence in British speedway with the track needing 26 panels.. The track is having a major overhaul with new shale on order, they hoping to get the track back to its best to produce some good racing. They are also interested in giving young and promising riders a chance and and they seem to be keen to have 2nd half racing for riders, so I would believe that the Young Guns meeting will still be there. But for me the main thing is that they are looking at bring back a winning team at home and make it Fortress Owlerton back like it was when the team tasted success, basically going back to basics. Yes maybe they could have done a better deal on season tickets, but they have kept prices the same as 2013 and not put them up, lets be patient and give them a break. On a personal note I came away from the STAARS meeting confident and excited for the new season, something I have not felt for the last two seasons.
  3. Been the father of a severely autistic with severe learning difficulties of a son who is on the the highest disability components, the one thing that my son does have is a pass to use on public transport throughout the county that enables him and his carer to travel free. The reason he gets this is because he needs someone to care for him at all times, and would be a danger to himself or others if out on his own. As far as I am aware this a National scheme (but don't quote me on that), so surely this are the types of disabled people that should qualify for their carer to enter for free, because they are unable to go without the assistance of a carer. I disappointed to hear comments to suggest that maybe disabled people been used by carers to get in somewhere for free deeply crass and offensive, the vast majority of carers are family members and I think you would find that 99.9% would not or would not be allow the people that they are caring for to be exploited into doing something that they were not wanting to do. Carers save this country millions of pounds in tax payers money looking after their disabled relatives, so why not give them a bit of a discount. And before any asks my disabled son does not have the slightest interest in speedway, is never likely to as well and while ever he is of that opinion he never will.
  4. For me. Claus Vissing Ben Barker Nicky Allott Ole Olsen Tommy Knudsen.
  5. I think the problem with Ricky is that he never ever looked like he wanted to be at Sheffield. Rarely smiled and when he won a race his celebratory lap he look anywhere but in the fans way. At Sheffield we were used to our American riders that charisma who smiled and engaged with the fans. Ricky Wells had the charisma more akin to Charlie Monk.
  6. None of those riders are riding for Sheffield next and as it has been pointed out Joe was neither the Team Manager or Team Coach at Glasgow. Ferrari is a top of the range high performance luxury car. How many top riders ride in the Premier League?.
  7. The more and more I think about it I think the signing of getting Screeny in as Team Manager/ Team Coach is a mater stroke. If young riders cannot learn from Big Joe then they will never learn. I think along with Simon Stead as Team Captain they will get the going. I think that they will work very well together. For the first time since the start of the 2011 season I am really looking forward to the start of the season.
  8. i have said in previous posts on other threads that the last 2 seasons have been very hard and attending meetings were done so out of habit rather than enjoyment. I still attended every meeting for the last two season except for the British Semi Final last season, and my enthusiasm was definitely waning I don't think I could have justified going to every meeting this coming season without a decent side. But now cannot wait for March and really looking forward to seeing how the new team progresses, and apart from Scunny, Peterborough and Workington I would say that its any team in the league could make the other three play off places. Lets bring it on.
  9. That contradicts what Rob Godfrey has said on the matter.
  10. Very happy with the team select especially when you consider the head start we gave most teams in the league regarding team building the team is for me competitive. Sorry to see our El Tigre Argentino Facu Albin not getting a team place, but who knows maybe one day we will see him return to the club, where there will always be a warm welcome to our Mr Entertainment.
  11. I think if we was talking about a rider who was around 25 years old and had been hanging around the National League for 5 or 6 seasons I might possibly see your point. But it was a 16 year old kid who had the balls to take up the challenge at Scunny, and unfortunately it did not work out, does not mean that at 16 you dump the fella on the scrap because he failed at the first hurdle. I think you find that the lad will have learnt from that experience and will be better, in fact he did as Halifax Tiger says some very good Guest bookings for Edinburgh last season and I believe he even managed to lower the colours of one of the best riders in the Premier League Jason Doyle so he does have something about him and he is very young so chances are he will only get better. I can also see why people would like to see Facu back but, it has to be said his equipment was at times very sub standard and let him down, yes he was a racer and and yes he was very exciting but for him to be competitive he has to have a decent engine to score points and there lies the problem with him.
  12. When you look at the riders available the best option certainly looks like Andre and one other would best possible option, and the chances are that we can start with Andre at reserve which has be seriously considered. If you bring in Facu or Damien you are looking at up to 5.59 left from Facu and 6.21 for Damien, the big problem is there is not many riders out there or available that would fit in.
  13. Have to totally agree, the balance of the team looks really good, experience and youth, racers and gaters I think the Screen/ Stead Team Manager/ Team Captain combination is excellent for the club and I can only see the club going from strength to strength as the season goes along. As for Leigh I thin that we are looking at a solid team heatleader, the one thing I do expect him to do is be the rider who leads the team on on the smaller more technical tracks,. Will be interesting to see who the final two riders are but for me the team is a competitive one which the Promotion has done well to put together. .
  14. Or former Aussie 2nd halfer Sam Dore's brother Corey.
  15. Not quite right, apparently they are signing the new hot prospect Drew Peacock.
  16. What I cannot understand is how Rye and Tyson Nelson have been caught out again. Once is unfortunate, but twice in the space of three years is very clumsy and with Len Silver been involved in the travel business you would think that he would have a greater understanding if the situation.
  17. For me start of a new era, and the new Promotion seem to have capture everyones imagination the hardcore supporters like myself and the floating supporters, Neil Machin was a man of his time and he did a hell of a lot for the club, and we should never ever forget that, but the sport has moved on and having one man band Promoters will be a rare commodity in the future in my opinion, and feel that Neil did the right thing for the club and himself as I think the club had lost its way a wee bit. But the days of one man footing the bills and trying to make a sports club a profit are thing of the past in my opinion and the way to go is through a consortium to run clubs for the future. The new Promotion have made some excellent choices and decisions in my opinion in the short space of time that they have had the club and like many others have said and like everyone else has said after months of uncertainty and worry I now feel very positive about my speedway club Looking at the league with the exception of Workington and Scunthorpe who are the stand out teams in the league the rest of us are all pretty evenly matched and for me the 4 other play off places could go to anyone in the league.. The last two signings I think will be Andre Compton, and if I am hoest I would love to see Stefan Nielsen grab the last spot would give us a good balance of experience and youth.
  18. That was Stefan he finished with a 4.90 average, but would qualify for a 2.5% reduction for been a young Brit.
  19. Bearing in mind we have given most teams two or three months start in team building I think that the Promotion have done an excellent job regarding the team. There is an excellent balance of experience ad youth, and something that no one else has mentioned none of the top three are tied into racing for an Elite League team.
  20. Very happy with the way things are going regarding team building, got the makings of a tidy team that I think will do well.
  21. Not so sure that there has been doom and gloom, one person makes a point that a good competitor in a sport does necessarily make a good Manager, which is true, but who knows whether or not Joe will make a good Manager. My feeling is that alongside Simon Stead as captain we have for me and other Sheffield fans the Dream Team, and put a bit more life into the team and give us something to cheer about which for the last couple of seasons which has been hard work supporting the team. I honestly believe that the the new Promotion have there finger on the pulse and have picked up on what the fans want and so far they have delivered with the changes to the Team Management and the Team its self.
  22. You are right in what you say, and there are no guarantees in sport, but I think the combination of Screeny as Team Manager and Simon Stead as captain I think that they will be a cracking combination, and I think that they will work well together. It could be construed as been a bit of a gamble but I think it might just pay off for the club.
  23. Screeny the new Team Manager, and Josh Bates added to the line up. http://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/other-sports/speedway/speedway-legend-joe-passes-tigers-screen-test-1-6386738 Wonder if he will treat the riders to ride like this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUw_cs6CsEs
