Called forward planning and you never know what will happen with other clubs and whether they may need a Guest rider. If Steady is dropped or Team GB fail to progress then we simply cancel the booking.

2013 Riders - Where Are They Now ?
spin king replied to MARK DEAN's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Something we discussed ias group at the last Sheffield meeting with a Comets supporter in our group. For years now Workington have built teams that on paper for the start of the season are very attractive, but for one reason or another never seems to achieve its true potential. Has to be frustrating for the Promotion and fans alike. -

I disagree with those comments, Ash Morris is an up and coming youngster who had the potential at the start of the season to make big strides in the sport. Mills at reserve was a decent call as you would have expected him to score a few points. The top 5 was as good as any tea on paper at the start of the season. The big problem for Workington this season ids the injuries to to riders and it seems to have knocked the stuffing out of the team. -

Really fancy us to maybe take a point from this meeting. I think the key is Ty Proctor and Taylor Poole. Ty has been off form , but the home form is starting to pick up if he can bring his present home form to Ashfield he could prove a trump card. And young Taylor riding at reserve again could be very useful, he is starting to hit some form and with the chance to take some extra rides, again could be a matchwinner.. -

I think that Ben Wilson proved a point tonight. Two full seasons out of the sport and a handful of National League meetings. He not only goes out in heat 1 and gains a paid win behind his team mate, he also beats the opposing number 1 who is in the Team GB starting line up. He then goes on to score in every race, gets yet another paid win Not bad for a start from Ben. . -

Of course he has got it right, and when he says horses for courses he has got bang on the button. If the meeting was held at the Wolves then you would have Cookie instead of Stead and Barker instead of King. Rosco is playing to his squads strengths. -

Taking the bottom three of the Sheffield team and their averahges from rides for Sheffield this season, we can see that this is not so much a gamble for the club. Home Taylor Poole 5.47 with BP and 4.55 without BP. Simon Nielsen; 4.40 with BP and 3.60 without BP. Josh Bates; 4.53 with BP and 4.00 without BP Away Taylor Poole 5.07 with BP and 4.00 without BP. Simon Nielsen; 3.87 with BP and 2.97 without BP Josh Bates; 3.75 with BP and 3.50 without BP Overall Taylor Poole 5.27 with BP and 4.25 without BP. Simon Nielsen; 4.23 with BP and 3.32 without BP Josh Bates; 4.00 with BP and 3.57 without BP Out of the three Simon has looked the least comfortable around Owlerton, and I am sure that Ben Wilson can at least match or even more improve on them. -

Micky Dyer is a good call, if he had not retired. Like I say if we are going to make a change then it has to be for the benefit for the club and to improve the team. I am all for make a change, because if you look at the league table yes we are bottom, but we still have a hell of a lot of meetings to race and points to pick up. The Ty Proctor move seemed like a cute move by the Promotion at the time and he should be doing better, it was a big move by the Promotion that showed to me that they are prepared to think big when the chance comes along. And I stil think on the quiet the Promotion are looking to bring in somebody, but someone that will make a big difference and not Richard Hall. -

The big problem, with this seasons team is that it was more or less put together at the end of February, so basically we put together a team that was what was left on the shelf, so I think that it was always going to be a season which we would have backs against the wall. To be fair the Promotion has made one change bringing Ty Proctor which should have made the team stronger, unfortunately Ty has been a bit hit and miss, more miss. Comparing the new Promotion with that of Neil Machin is a little unfair, I would be more incline to reserve my judgement on their team building next season when the Promotion are on a level playing field with the rest of the league. -

Anton Rosen is Swedish and rides in the Swedish League on Thursday, people need to put any Swedish riders out of a possible place for Sheffield. Richard Hall would yes score some decent scores around Sheffield, but we need someone who can do it away from Sheffield. -

I don't where people got the Bates statement. But Simon Parker said last night on FB page. "We are looking at every possibility to strengthen the team, but we can't just change for changes sake." That has to be the right way to go, no point in making changes unless whoever comes in and makes a difference. -
Rye House V Workington... 5th July, 7pm
spin king replied to Shadders's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I remember just before the start of the season and guys that have taken over the club at Sheffield were asking for suggestions to make improvements or changes that the fans and what would get fans back to the speedway at a Supporters Club meeting. There were some good suggestions and ideas, but one of the new Promoters Peter Mole stood up and said " One of the ways to get fans back, is to put together a team that wins." Basically sums it up really, if the team does not win and keeps losing then you can expect the crowds to go down. -

I can also confirm that there was a sighting of Shadders at Sheffield on Thursday, he was stood with me and the rest of our usual crowd. He was here last year twice. And the year before that. And the year before that as well. -

Eddie or Edward as he likes to be called has never been prolific or comfortable around Sheffield, even when he has been on form. I think that we saw last night a rider who is still trying to get his confidence back. -

Pleasing meeting to watch last night by the fact that all riders bar Andre Compton started to look far more comfortable on the track, and the Rye team were very competitive. Nice to see my old mate Shadders once again and he took away a bottle of Henderson's Relish the taste of Sheffield. The pleasing thing about last night was the fact that the team did not fold when Steady dropped some uncharacteristic points which is what seems to happen this season. Another pleasing factor last night was Ty Proctor who not only started to score points that we expected of him, but it was the way he won those points, some spectacular, entertainment wise he was box office last night (Proper Speedway) One of the talking points was the Taylor Poole incident and not clearing the track, not going to make excuses but I don't think it is just a Sheffield/ Taylor Poole problem lots of riders/ clubs do it to take an advantage and the authorities should really look at it , few suggestions come through last night, give the referee's the power to do; . (1) Shoot the falling rider at dawn the following day (A very irate Shadders) (2) Award the team the other team penalty points (Me) (3) Make the offending teams remaining rider go off 15 metres for the re run (A more rational and calmer Shadders). But overall very pleased with generally with what I saw from the Sheffield team last night. -
The words "You ain't seen nothing yet" spring to mind.

Something Got To Change (sheffield)
spin king replied to OILYRAG's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I think everybody knows that something needs to be done and we going have to make changes. I am not too sure where I would make the changes but I think that realistically to improve the team and who and which riders would be available is not clear. But looking at the riders true averages for fixtures for this season, these will be nothing like the rolling ones that they use for Team Building purposes, but give a true reflections of the scores that when they have ridden for Sheffield this season. Simon Stead Home Average 10.22 Away Average 8.91 Overall Average 9.58 Leigh Lanham Home Average 6.30 Away Average 4.88 Overall Average 5.60 Ty Proctor Home Average 4.33 Away Average 4.44 Overall Average 4.38 Andre Compton Home Average 6.50 Away Average 5.63 Overall Average 6.13 Taylor Poole Home Average 4.14 Away Average 3.23 Overall Average 3.67 Simon Nielsen Home Average 3.38 Away Average 3.27 Overall Average 3.33 Josh Bates Home Average 3.60 Away Average 4.16 Overall Average 3.85 Adam Roynon Home Average 5.85 Away Average 5.33 Overall Average 5.60 All of those averages do not include bonus points. Looking at those figures only Simon Stead, Andre Compton and Josh Bates are performing to their true potential, the rest were or are not doing that and that is where we possibly need to see changes. -

Well it has been a nice day and sunshine and alcohol don't really mix. -
Don't get me wrong, I think that the Promotion need to make a change unless thinks don't improve, but the timing has to be bang on and the right riders have to be available. If what I have been told is correct that Ty Proctors average reduces pretty drastically then that is when we need to look at replacement riders or rider. The one thing that we do have going for us at the moment is that although we sit at the foot of the table we have until tomorrow only raced 4 league matches, the most of the league have raced either double that amount and three times that amount. My guess is that the Promotion will make a change early July, and if they get the right rider/ riders in it could change our fortunes rapidly.
