  1. I think in general if people enjoy what they see they will return to watch a sport. They may not go week in week out, but they still go. A lot of what you are saying about Cradley was said about Scunthorpe towards the end of their days as a stand alone Conference/ National League team, the difference is that Scunthorpe have their own track and moving up a division was far easier transition than for Cradley who don't have their own track.
  2. Exactly, its interesting but not a jot of difference to me. The main thing for me is that a rider wants to ride for Sheffield and all of the riders who have signed have publicly stated that so that is fine by me. As to what they are paid or not paid is irrelevant.
  3. Of course in Poland they do it so much different don't they.
  4. I think I know what Oily is alluding to. I think Ben can count himself unlucky not to get a team place this season at Sheffield as he does a job for the team that is a bit of a specialist role, and one that would be vital and helpful if we are to make Owlerton a fortress again. Ben throughout his Sheffield career riding the number 2 riding position, and overall throughout his Sheffield career at home he has done this well and last season was no exception. Last season for instance Ben rode in heat 1 on all 10 of his home appearances, 70% of those races he either had a paid win or won the race, which meant that on most occasions we invariably start with a heat advantage, and he beat some very good riders doing so. He would have done a fine job, and with his fine home form he would have upped that average by the end of the season. But the chance to sign a rider of the potential of Arthur Sissis is far to great to turn down, and I think that given the opportunity to sign was to great, yes there is an element of a gamble in the signing, but he is only 19 and still very young and for me the gamble is worthwhile taking. But even so Ben would have done a very good job for the club, but I still think that the club made the right move to go with Sissis.
  5. I have to agree with you on the Craig Cook statement, I think in his case this year is the put up or shut up season. He makes a big play about wanting to ride in the GP's, but needs to broaden his horizons and ride more meetings abroad, be that Poland, Sweden or Denmark. I don't think that the doubling up does any harm, but his failure or his efforts to get rides abroad will greatly reduce his chance of moving his career along.
  6. Did they make an illegal approach? I am not so sure that they did. Redcar seem to be following the same approach that Swindon seem to be following in that if the rider wants to ride for another club then the other club must buy the rider rather than loan him.
  7. Definitely time to bring on young riders but the balance has to be right, and has to be done with the right balance of youth, experience and who is on form, be that the squad of riders and the team that is chosen. I think also you need to look at to where the meeting is been held, horses for courses the Simon Stead inclusion raised eyebrows last season, but he was a match winner at Kings Lynn a track that he rides well, the mistake Rosco made was to stick with the team when they went to the Finals in Poland. But as a speedway nation we should be introducing younger riders or less experienced riders and blooding them on the International scene. On present form I would look at maybe the following team. Tai Woffinden Chris Harris Robert Lambert Craig Cook Then a back up squad of Simon Stead Danny King Ben Barker Richie Worrall Jason Garrity Steve Worrall. Kyle Newman
  8. Jonathan Chapman's younger brother. That will go down a storm in Brummie Land.
  9. I can see why Havvy Senior is maybe looking for a transfer fee for Summers, but to be honest I think that he is wasting his time and I do think that his valuations are some what over valued. What happens if Glasgow refuse to pay a transfer fee, he would be left with a rider sat on the sidelines not making him any money, who does not want to ride for the club and no loan fee, transfers are very rare in speedway these days. My guess is that if Glasgow stick to their guns they will get their man with no transfer fee to pay, their are riders who could do a similar job to Summers without having to pay a transfer fee and it is my guess if they wait a little longer Havvy's resolve with melt.
  10. So don't have doubling up riders in any other leagues in other countries. I think you might just find that Sweden has doubling up/ doubling down. Admittedly no to the extent it is in this country, but still have it.
  11. I assume now that you will be dropping Steve Worrall from your team as he has signed to ride for Newcastle in the Premier League. Not the Full time Elite League rider that you jumped to the conclusion that you thought. Bit like popping the champagne corks before the season is over.
  12. Been from Sheffield I have seen, read and heard lots of things about the Ched Evans case. Putting aside the Charlie Webster business. Ched Evans is a convicted rapist, whether you believe he is guilty or not he is a convicted rapist. Ched Evans is perfectly entitled to resume his career if so. But Any prospective employer is also entitled not to employ him, and they also have to give very careful consideration as to the effects employing someone who is a convicted rapist. The feelings of their customers (in this case fans) The feelings of business partners/ fellow workers (sponsors/ employee's paid and unpaid). End of the day most employers will take everything in to consideration about a convicted rapist and and probably say thanks but no thanks. For me Evans conduct since leaving prison tells me that at this particular moment in time he should not return to a job that is well paid and very much in the public eye like football. The video that was put out did him no favours it was insincere and look very staged managed. At the end of the day the support that he had in Sheffield, disintegrated with his conduct towards Jess Ennis, something that people who don't come from the city will not realised is that Jess Ennis is a well loved and very well respected lady from Sheffield. For those who don't know Jess was given the honour of having a stand named after her by Sheffield United, she did not ask for the honour it was given. She came out and publicly said that if Sheffield United were to re- employ Ched Evans a convicted rapist she would ask for her name to removed, which she is perfectly entitled to do so. What happened then was some of Evans sickest supporters and their are quite a few out there, called for someone to go and rape Jess Ennis. At this point Ched Evans who is a convicted rapist has two choices as to how he deals with the incident. (1) Come out and disassociate himself from those comments and condemn them. (2) Say nothing. Ched chose the latter, and frankly apart from the very few hardcore his support in Sheffield disintegrated, and I leave it for everyone else to decide whether or not he should have chosen option 1. End of the day Ched chose his profession that is very well paid and in the public eye, the price you pay for doing that is that you will be watched and you have behave in a correct and professional nature at all times. Whether he raped the girl or not what he and his so called professional footballer mate did was despicable, and Evans and to a lesser extent his mate are paying the price for their behaviour. . . . ..
  13. I do remember a couple years ago the Speedway Star tipping the next big foreign youngster ready to burst on the speedway scene and both Eric and his brother were ones to watch out for.
  14. Probably near the truth than any of the other statements made about the two. End of the day both Cook and Stead were pretty much head and shoulders above anyone else in the league.
  15. He certainly hasn't doany team riding from my knowledge since he came back to the club. But I remember Doug Wyer been the same when he rode at number 1. I think certain riders can team ride and some can to be fair with the way Steady rides I don't think I would want to try and team ride with him,
  16. Will be interesting to see how the lad copes with the track at Armadale, its going to be very much a culture shock for him. Have to agree with you it is a big risk taking him on.
  17. Okay fair enough you say that none us have the right answer, if you know that we are all wrong you must know what is right.
  18. Belle Vue (Hyde Road) Leicester (Blackbird Road) Halifax Hull (The Boulivard) Cradley Heath Hackney.
  19. Actually depends who you believe. Somerset and Berwick would claim that its is the BSPA. But I seem to remember Rob Godfrey saying it was clearly stated that the likes of Jack Holder would come in on a 7 point average.
  20. The ruling come effectively from the Immigration department from the Government. Its nothing that anyone can do anything about. Yes its tough and most of us will not think it is fair as Aussie riders have been loyal to British speedway.
  21. Try googling his name and on may occasions where he is describe as a Australian/ Greek. there is also an article in Greek where the Greeks are claiming as one of there own.
