Sorry to hear about Lasse, he was box office at home last season. Still not convinced that Josh G will be coming back, so how about the following; (1) Howarth (2) Wilson Dean (3) Covatti (4) Bates (5) Jorgensen (6) Shanes (7) Wood

Would Swindon drop Doyle in favour of Morris? I very much doubt it, but the point I am making there are places for riders who did average over 8 just means it might not be the first team of their choice.
-
I agree regarding the one 8 point plus rider. 8 teams in the league 7 riders averaged over 8 plus Vaculik, means that they all have the chance to ride for an Premiership team.
-
Does the Danish League every Wednesday? I don't think it does. Maybe the intention is to run all Monday nights for an 8 team league in the Premiership, with the option to use Wednesday when the Danes are not racing.
-
My guess is this; Fixed race nights for Premiership based on it appearing that no team is moving up Monday and Wednesdays. Premiership teams same teams as last season. Championship the same teams with Lakeside joining the league. Team building Premiership to run to 45 point limit, Championship 42.5. Double Point tactical sub to be replace by the old 6 point behind tactical sub.

Need to do you homework my friend. Premiership Kyle Howarth excluding bonus point last averaged Home; 6.74 Away; 6.72 Overall; 6.73 I think that shows that he is as good away from Monmore Green than he is at it. Josh Auty excluding bonus point last averaged Leicester Home; 5.00 Away; 3.00 Overall; 4.00 Kings Lynn Home 5.23 Away; 4.00 Overall; 4.76 Championship Kyle Howarth excluding bonus point last averaged Home; 8.95 Away; 8.15 Overall; 8.54 Kyle away average only bettered by (Nick Morris, Ricky Wells, Steve Worrall, Robert Lambert, Josh Grajczonek and Craig Cook) Josh Auty excluding bonus point last averaged Home; 7 .23 Away; 5.91 Overall; 6.90. Josh has a long way to go to catch Kyle.

Got to agree and I will add Richard Hall to that list as well. On the subject of Garrity, I think people need to look at how many meetings he misses due to injuries in a season. Proctor looked very average when he came to Sheffield with Workington but the meeting he did for us he looked a different rider, but you then have to remember he was not riding against Sheffield riders who topped the league and were the only team in the league to win all of their home Championship fixtures. I throw another name into the hat Nico Covatti.

Speedway is a Summer sport that relies heavily on the weather. Why on earth anyone would consider going to a meeting in the middle of winter is above me, and something that I have never understood.

Riding out on the train to work today I dug out a Speedway Star from my bag, which was the preview issue for the start of the season. So I thought I would look to see who had predicted who to finish in the top 4 and how many got it right and how many got it wrong. For those who don't read the magazine they get the reporter and a fan of the club to make their predictions for the season. So using a scoring system of 3 points for the correct position and 2 points for getting it right that team finished in top 4 but in the wrong order. So if you had (1) Sheffield (2) Ipswich (3) Edinburgh (4) Glasgow you would score 12 points. Some went pretty close some failed miserably. This is how the predictions went. Berwick; Reporter 4 points, Fan 4 points total 8 points. Edinburgh; Reporter 9 points, Fan 4 points total 13 points Glasgow; Reporter 8 points, Fan 10 points total 18 points Ipswich; Reporter 6 points, Fan 4 points total 10 points (The Ipswich fan predicted Berwick to top the league) Newcastle; Reporter 6 points, Fan 6 points total 12 points Peterborough; Reporter 6 points, Fan 6 points total 12 points Redcar; Reporter 6 points, Fan 5 points total 11 points Scunthorpe; Reporter 6 points, Fan 2 points total 8 points (bonus point for the Scunthorpe fan as he is only 8 years old) Sheffield; Reporter 8 points, Fan 9 points total 17 points Workington; Reporter 6 points, Fan 6 points total 12 points. So there was two stand out predicting teams Glasgow who just pipped Sheffield. And the other thing to learn from this, never ever ask an Ipswich fan for next weeks winning lottery numbers.

Hopefully they will revert back to 42.5 point limit, and if they do I would go with virtually the same team as last season with one change. Kyle Howarth Lasse Bjerre Josh Bates Jake Allen Todd Kurtz Jan Gravesen George Wood.
-
I think you maybe a little confused with your years. Andy Moore left Sheffield in 2004. Sheffield lined up for the match at Kings Lynn as follows; Ricky Ashworth Ben Wilson Andre Compton Paul Cooper Joel Parsons Jordan Frampton (Guest for James Birkinshaw) James Cockle. Sheffield had the same team apart from Birkinshaw rode for the 75- 15 loss.
-
And the strange thing at the end of season guess who dumped Kings Lynn out of the Play Off Semi Final. Its like the old saying its not how you start its how you finish.

Think they need to sit down and take serious long hard look at what they are doing and accept that what they have been doing has not been working. Main thing they need to accept is that they have failed to understand that the World of speedway has changed, the days of riders riding and basing themselves solely in this country has long gone and went out in the 70's and 80's. I don't think that they will be able to stop the doubling up rule, but they need to look at ways of to cut down on the amount of Guest appearances they need to cover the doubling up situation. The only way forward for this has to be either designated race nights for each leagues, or maybe squads for the top league with riders sharing doubling up roles. Or combining the top leagues and making one big league, is another way that could move it forward. But the main thing is it has to be attractive to both riders and fans alike. I have also advocated that there should be a fans representative elected from each club vote by their home fans to attend part of the Conference so that they can get ideas and views from a fans perspective. They also need to take a look at the TV deal as I think it was BT that put the pressure on the Promotion and Relegation Play Offs to come into effect, and at Sheffield what happened their where our own Promotion were subject unwarranted abuse. Lets hope that they don't just paper over the cracks.
-
Nothing has been decided as yet, but the favoured option seems to be Monday and Thursday fixed nights for Elite League racing. My believe is that they are trying alleviate the doubling up problems, which this season has gotten out of hand. The options for us as club as I see it is; (1) Move up into the Premiership and keep our traditional Thursday night racing. (2) Stay in the Championship but change our race night. (3) Stay in the Championship keep Thursday nights but have problems signing riders, basically anyone who wants to double up won't want to ride for a Thursday night Championship club. Like yourself and a lot of others I would favour things staying the way they are, but it shows you how far gone the sport has gone downhill when it looks like we maybe forced into a situation which is out of our control.
-
I have a feeling that we could be moving up to the top league. With the word been that the top league going to fixed race nights of Monday and Thursday, and both nights been our regular race night and the other been our regular alternative night, I see us swapping places with Leicester who seem to have decided that they are best running on a Saturday. With that in mind I think that we could see the following riders returning; Kyle Howarth Josh Bates Lasse Bjerre Jan Gravensen That would see us looking for three other riders Maybe Scott Nicholls who has been doing a lot of Guest bookings Maybe Kim Nilsson transfer his services over from Leicester. I definitely don't see Josh Auty at Sheffield whatever league we ride, and to be fair I don't see the benefit to him coming back to Sheffield to either club or rider. On a 42 point limit, which is what they will probably go with Kai Huckenbeck. I also have a feeling that Ipswich will swap places with Kings Lynn in the top league.

Scunthorpe Scorpions 2018
spin king replied to IronScorpion's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
My final say on the matter as this thread is the Scunthorpe thread. We did not have a problem with him at Sheffield. He put on nearly 3 points on his starting average But with Bjerre been available and wanting to ride for the club on lower average, the club went for Bjerre as the better option, as the saying goes speedway is a numbers game. Berge did rely heavily on his gating, and he did have his limitations. But as far as I know he was not a problem at Sheffield, there was obviously a problem at both Glasgow and Berwick, who knows what the problem was itdoes happen sometimes maybe he felt more comfortable at Sheffield. And I think he could do s decent job in the middle order for Scunthorpe. -

Funny he was not a problem at Sheffield,I firmly believe that he would have been back at Sheffield if had not been for that the opportunity to sign Bjerre on a low average. -
I wonder if they missed a trick at the start of the season when riders were given one average. Rather than Championship teams built to a 40 point limit and Premiership side built to a 50 point limit, have both leagues built to a 45 point limit. My guess is that you would have seen a fairer more exciting Promotion/Relegation Play Off.
-
To me it should if win the league then you should be promoted if you finish bottom then your relegated, that is the only way it will work. The present way it works the Championship side that is built to 40 point limit, has to try and beat a Premiership side that is built to a 50 point limit, and then try and beat them over two legs. Keeping it that way means no team is ever likely to get promoted.

Who knows, maybe the Leicester raised their game. Lets face it King raised his game in the Pairs the day before compared to the meetings he rode for Ipswich. In a season when we there have so many positives and things to celebrate I can forgive one performance even though as I have stated that the cards were heavily stack against us. And as for those who seem to think that the meeting was somehow rigged or fixed totally and utter cobblers, if they had rigged it they would have made so that the scoreline was close so get more interest in the second leg at Leicester, this will have cost Damien Bates an arm and leg because Sheffield fans are less likely to travel. And I ask you a question now, how come we only ever hear from you on here when there is a negative?
-
Totally disagree with anyone who says that Sheffield were not trying. Its simple on one side you have team that was built to a points limit of 40 where as the other is built to 50. It does not take a rocket scientist to work who should or will win the cards are firmly stacked against the Championship team. If you are going to have Promotion and Relegation then make it automatic rather than a Play Off, where one team is basically riding with one hand tied behind there back. that would be a fairer solution.

Berge is a good rider, does nearly all of his work from the gate, when he was at Sheffield I cannot remember him passing anyone. But more often or not if he got out of the gate then he was never or rarely caught.
