  1. So we now put down our calculators and the Tigers class of 2109 has been named. And I have to say that I very impressed as to what the team that the promotion has chosen, and i am confident that we have a team that has the potential to bring on some silverware for next season. Danny King should be if he is fully over his injury problems ( he assure's he is) be a very solid number 1 in this league. Kyle Howarth is a far better rider than his average and should be more than capable of improving on his starting average. Ty Proctor again should be able to make improvements, our main problem with Ty is keeping him fit. Kasper Andersen, for me one of the aces in the pack, we saw enough of him last season to suggest that on 5.20 he is a steal of an average, and I would not mind betting that if he had not signed for Sheffield there would have been a host of clubs ready to fit him in their teams. Broc Nichol show some promise last season, with a full season ahead of him should move forward plenty of experience within the Sheffield pits to give him some advice. Zaine Kennedy, bit of a unknown quantity, but again he has plenty of experience in the pits to help him along. Drew Kemp. a rider that due to change in points limit I think every club in Championship when Ipswich announce that they were moving up a league would have put into their side given what he has already achieved and done in his short career. Personally I am really looking forward to watching him develop over the season. Roll on April.
  2. Riders ride in number of leagues in a number of countries. As a young and up and coming rider you should aspire to ride against the best opposition. And the best opposition you can race against is out in Poland, at this moment. Young Drew has the potential to go very far in the sport and by the looks of it his ambition matches this, it should not be knocked and I am pleased that he has chosen to ride for our team to try and move his career along. .
  3. Read the article. http://www.workingtoncomets.co/news/article.asp?id=101047
  4. Well deserved first signing and one should have been for the Comets. Staying behind and ricking his chances of a visa shows commitment for a club and richly deserves to be name the first name on the team sheet.
  5. I would be very surprised to see Lawson at Sheffield for 2019, after the shenanigan's last season when agreeing to come and then signing for Lakeside, I think that feeling will still be a bit raw, add to the fact that his average is pretty high I think he may struggle to find a Championship place at all. And on a personally note I don't really fancy having in the team as he does not entertain me a bit of a gating tart for me. Schlein is a maybe, did read somewhere that this is to be his last season in racing, maybe he fancies returning where it all started with the Prowlers, but somehow I get the feeling that he is not totally comfortable with the Sheffield track. Of the three Danny King would be my choice, quality rider who can race a bit and of the three for me suits what Sheffield are looking for rather that the other two.
  6. Well Done to the Sheffield Promotion, for quality signing in Drew Kemp, and a name that would have been on most Championship teams shopping list. Also admire the riders ambition to sign for a big track club and get to learn a type of track that he will not be used to, looks like the Simon Stead factor has swayed the lad and what he can learn from Steady. Will be interesting to see who the two riders are to be announced a week on Wednesday, but so far so good.
  7. Hansen and Lidsey have raced league racing so come in on an 5 point average.
  8. Very much doubt it will be riding in Poland on a Sunday I would imagine.
  9. I would say that Andersen is a key rider, but there be a problem if he wants to ride Poland and race days been Sundays at Sheffield. Berge could be a problem as well with Grass track and Long track commitments. Its looking as though we will probably be predominately using British riders with a few Aussie riders. Edinburgh are going have to of load a few riders maybe Josh Pickering might be rider that could be released. One rider who will be able to name his price will be Drew Kemp.
  10. Sundays is fine by me, but I was not expecting Sunday race day, I was expecting Wednesday to be honest. Will be interesting to see how the changes will effect crowd figures. The new points limit was the shocker for me, going to take some careful and creative team building.
  11. They can own but they are not allowed to be a promoter of the club.
  12. I think that you only have to see the type of riders that Glasgow have signed over the present Promotion's time as owners of the club to realise the the type of budget's been pumped into the club. Unfortunately the big spending demands big success and this has not really happened for the club, and I always fear for the Glasgow supporters that this day would come around sometime unless they got that success. Lets hope that a solution can be found and the club does not go out of business, maybe if budgets were reduced things could get better financial and keep the Promotion at the club.
  13. And Rob Godfrey was too busy saving the planet to realise that he had only score a few points.
  14. (1) Charles Wright (2) Kasper Andersen (3) Zaine Kennedy (4) Kyle Howarth (5) Adam Ellis (6) Dimitri Berge (7) Nathan Greaves
  15. Not defending the rider. as you and your other Scunny fan has pointed out Phillips was not scoring the points all season, so why did it take your Team Management while after the cut off point for team changes to decide that he needed dropping. Your Team Management were caught with their pants down, I find it more than frustrating that you vent your frustration out solely on the rider the rider, why not the Management team as well?
  16. Sad sad day for the sport. Feel for Lakeside as the problems seem to lie with the stadium owners, any I would imagine that the Lakeside promotion will more that likely look at this and realise that they cannot continue to use the Rye House stadium for now and the foreseeable future. For me Lakeside should do the honourable thing and forfeit the tie, a sad day for them not fault but needs must. But serious questions need to be raised as to why after a reduced fixture list and and the best weather for some years we are still trying resolve completing fixtures.
  17. Grand total of 2. And if they buy a season ticket god Scunny will be quids in.
  18. totally agree and what I was saying in a round about way.
  19. If you get caught with your pants down then chances are that you will get your arses slapped. By the sounds of it the rider could or should have been dropped anytime this season. But the Scunthorpe decided that to drop him/ rest him after the transfer deadline. To drop him would have meant the rules were broken. To rest him and the rider is deemed to withholding his services and receive a ban. The rider does not agree to been rested as he has riding commitments elsewhere and still wants to honour those commitments. Rob Godfrey was caught with his trousers firmly around his ankles and his arse must have been slapped so hard its a wonder he could sit down.
  20. Are you sure David. It does say a reliable source.
  21. Congratulations to The Comets. Just goes to show never ever write off your team. It is very nearly 8 years to the day the last time Edinburgh folded in the 2nd leg of a Semi Final.
  22. So we used 12 different riders in 2018 and add Josh Bates to the mix we had 13. So of those 13 who would I retain. Charles Wright; finished the season at number 1 and overall had a brilliant season, but I don't see him improving on the average that he has and we need riders that will up their averages, so it is with a heavy heart I say release. Kyle Howarth; Started the season like a steam train, and then pick up some injuries that he never seem to get over. On an average of 7.49 he can improve but with the possible merger of the two leagues Wolves I would imagine would want him and with him been Workington asset they may well want to either cash in on him or use him themselves. But would put him on the retain list. Lasse Bjerre; Shame how it ended with Lasse as watching him around Owlerton was a joy to watch. Maybe releasing him and then asking him back after last season was not the brightest idea, it seemed to unsettle him and when he is unsettle Lasse is the type to revolt. So while the we have the Promotion in the present form I don't see a way back for Lasse. Release Josh Bates; I am a Josh fan, but I think that maybe it is time for him to move on, I think that it would benefit both the club and the rider if he did, because I don't think Josh gets the credit he deserves and is a much better rider that others give credit. So I would release him. Todd Kurtz; At Owlerton Todd can be a match winner, away he can be a bit of a liability but when the team is successfully away from home he has usually popped up with win out of the blue. But for me it is how you use Todd, stick at number 2, and at home he will invariably get a win or a paid win, So I would go with retain. James Shanes; All action and never gives up, just what you want from rider. The only nagging doubt I have about James is his other commitments (Longtrack and Grass), but his potential far outweighs those doubts so I would say retain. Jack Smith; Was a little unfortunate to be dropped as he was starting to get it together when he was dropped. But I don't think he is what we are looking for at the moment. Release Broc Nichol; Did a decent job, but still has a look of a rider who is still with a lot to learn, and at the moment we don't need a rider like that son would have to be release. Kasper Andersen; Been a revelation since he came into the side and on an assessed average of 5.20 I think there will be plenty of interest from other clubs on him. He is more than capable of putting a point or two on that starting average. For me we must try and get him signed up. Retain Jan Gravensen; Shadow of the rider who rode for us in 2017, and unless we can get him in at reserve I don't think he would be effective. Release Georgie Wood; Another one who was a shadow of the rider that we had riding for us in 2017, does not appear to have enough backing as well. Release Connor Mountain; Would like to have said retain, but I don't think that his home performances were as good as they could have been, so for me Release Joe Lawler, Lacks the experience at the moment and needs to spend another season at National League level and establish himself in that league. Release So if we were to stay at a 42.5 limit with 7 riders per team we would have; Kyle Howarth 6.95 Todd Kurtz 5.91 Zaine Kennedy 5.20 Kasper Andersen 5.20 James Shanes 4.96 (2.5% British reduction) That would leave us with 14.28 for the two remaining riders.
