  1. Was not Frank Varey the first to where no black leathers, sure his nickname was the red devil.
  2. I remember attending the last match of the season at Sheffield I think that it was 76, and seem to remember three of the Belle Vue riders were wearing leathers that were all silver , onde was Peter Collins, but I cannot remember who the other two were.
  3. I remember Eric Broadbelt wearing a pair of bottle green leathers when riding for Sheffield, anf have terrible luck while wearing them.
  4. Still makes you think that the Russian authorities would think that a rider would risk life and limb to get political asylum. Things might not be great now but at least we don't see this sort of thing happening now.
  5. Really shows you how things were then, and how far we have come now, I find it hard to believe that they made him go home for treatrment, due to the political situation.
  6. Not forgetting Doug Flyer Wyer with his white leathers with the tassles on the arms.
  7. Seem to remember reading some where that they had some kind of feud going on between them.
  8. As well as Olle Nygren wearing white boots there was also Bert Harkins who also wore white boots.
  9. And very different, I remember reading his profile in the speedway star and it was totally different from others that I had seen. Certainly got him plenty of publicity and people talkming about him even though he never reach past the novice stage.
  10. Thanks Merv would be nice to see what he is doing now and his thoughts on speedway today.
  11. I wonder if it is about rider that I am not sure what his name was, but I seem to remember was called Jon Jon White, never really made it as rider, but was very much a character, renowned for wearing black leathers in the 80's and a black bike.
  12. I think that Terry Betts has been done, and I think Neil Middleditch has as well, would love to see what Steve Gresham is doing now though.
  13. Yeah, would be interesting to see what he has to say about the Moran brothers.
  14. Remember them both, they were really tough nut riders who rode hard.
  15. I believe that Bob Kilby has already been done, Bruce Cribb would be a very good one, Barry Briggs could do a full magazine worth of stories I reckon on him.
  16. Yes Tormod start at Bristol 77 and 78, when Bristol closed he went to Halifax for the 79 season, and how some success with the Dukes. I believe that Halifax sacked him when he broke his home, and as far as I am aware .
