Cannot remember the year but remember Reg Wilson and Gary Gugliemi going through the fence on the third turn at Sheffield in the old second half meeting. I f I remember Reg walk away with bruising, but Gugliemi broke his arm.

Er, I did. And yes I've been almost everywhere except Workington and Teeside (which I saw from the flyover a few times but never visited) And the Intercontinental Final of 1977 was one of Peter Collins' finest hours, coming from the back in almost every race as I remember. A magic meeting which is sentimental for me as it was the last event my dad took me to before he died. I think Penhall debuted and got 2pts?? I went to both White City and the old Wimbledon but always thought Plough Lane was a special place but good for gaters- ie Ian Gledhill's NLRC win in 1979. I think the same of Coventry too so what do I know?? Hackney was miles better and my dad really rated Custom House as he called it. The only people I saw regularly come from the back at Plough Lane were Dave Pierce, Barry Lee and George Polley. That WAS racing but you might not know what I'm talking about..... Honorable mentions also to Peterborough, Canterbury, the old Weymouth and Berrington Lough to add to my earlier post...... Yeah I remember watching Penhall on telly and scoring 2 points, I remmember him being pants, and wondering what all the fuss was whwn he signed for Cradley.

A part from my own track Sheffield I thought Belle Vue's old track at Hyde Park was brill. I remember John Louis beating Bruce Penhall for the BLRC, and taking him from the back , pure class from Tiger Louis.

Paul Evitts older brother of Neil was another that rode under age, for Stoke I believe.
-
I don't think he rode under age but he rode under a different name Gary Williams I believe, due to nobody could pronounce Gugliemi.

I buy mmine from the track shop at Sheffield.

Any chance about an article about Scunthorpe, by the way the magazine is brill.
-
sounds like another great publication.

Thats been Adam's problem all along, World beater in one race and losing to a total novice the next, very frustrating but his Dad was exactly the same.
-
Does anybody know when issue 3 is due for release, also is there any plans to make it a monthly.
-
I am inclined to agree with the sentiments.

Well done Simon, and good luck for Saturday.
-
Getting back to the topic, I would go for Jason, rather than the old man, although Phil was a good rider.
-
I don't know about the messiest, but the tidiest was Phil White at Sheffield mind you it use to take him a minute to do one.
-
That's right - I've got that somewhere too. Didn't he draw a mouse within it? Phil Collins was another to draw a smiley face. I don't recall a mouse, but there is connection I think with the family furniture business where the company logo is a mouse.

One of the nicest autographs that I got int the seventies was Ian Cartwright father of Berwick's Simon, he used to put a smiley face by the side of his name.

I am going to have one last say on the Carter/ Pedersen debate, as I don't think I explained what I actually mean't properly. They both have the seem to have drive and determination to win, yes Pedersen uses dubious tactics and I am coming round to the idea now the guy is a bully, Kenny was just as determined but never did it by dubious tactics depending on which rider you supported at the time, Mr Penhall always reckon that Kenny used to go for him. As for the World Final in LA it is my opinion that Penhall put Kenny into the fence, and the Referee bottled it, you can probably guess whose side I am on in the Penhall/ Carter debate. The other way I compare Pedersen to Carter is there riding styles for me are very similar.
-
Dont even go there!! there will only be one King Kenny. Couldn't have put it better. Carter might have been controversial in terms of his public pronouncements, but he wasn't what I would class a dirty rider. Pedersen is. Issue 2 is another fascinating read, I thought the article on Vic Harding was excellent. I did not say that they were alike, but that the nearest we have to him that I could think of Mr Pedersen, they seem to have the same drive to win and not afraid to put there bodies on the line. Kenny was a hard rider who feared nobody who had his admirers like myself grudgingly being a supporter of the old enemy, but I appreciate what everybody is saying.

Again, this magazine, and I recommend that anybody who has being going to speedway for over 25 years buys it because it reminds you of what speedway was like. The articles are brill, and the tribute to Vic Harding was very touching, this issue there was also an excellent article about Kenny Carter, who was an controversial and tragic character, the nearest we have to him today is Nicki Pedersen who reminds me of him a little. He was a rider who was totally fearless, who was dogged by tragedy all his life right up until the end, but boy could he ride a speedway, and if they made a film about his life it would be a blockbuster. To the editor of this magazine keep the memories coming, and I look forward to my next copy.

I think you are getting your Green twins mixed up, it was Simon that had a bad crash at Sheffield.

I can't wait the memories are flooding back already.

The story of the 1st GP ?
spin king replied to gillam's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Tony Steele, is suppose to be the top speedway referee, but he bottled it with Rickardson, the guy should have been excluded twice, he clearly took out both riders in both racer as did Gollob with Jensen. -
Know exactly what you mean when you say for those of a certain age, I got quite nostalgic after reading it.
