After tonights performance I think it fair to say that Scott Nicholls should step aside and let someone else have a crack at the Grand Prix, he looked sluggish and very slow, and very much off the pace. On the other hand although he did not qualify Bomber Harris looked alot better, and more on the pace, whether or not he makes it into the top 8 remains to be seen, but I think that Bomber has a far better chance than Scott Nicholls. The young Russian lad is one that I saw for the first time tonight, but I had heard from friends how good was, looked really good, a bit hairy at times, but fast and very exciting to watch. It is alright to have fast bikes but you need the skill to ride them, and tonight he excellent skills in my opinion , the way he balances on the bike is briliant. One question I would like to ask is what is the correct spelling of Emil's surname, in the Speedway Star it starts Saj, yet on Sky Sports it Say.

Anyone know what happened to Shane, the lad seem to have plenty of potential and determination, but cruelly with injuries, has he had to call it a day.

Who Deserved To Have Been The First Polish World Champ
spin king replied to BOBBATH's topic in Years Gone By
Would have to say Zenon Plech, in his heyday he was a joy to watch, and a very skillful rider, he had a season at Sheffield at the end of his British career but was way past his best by that time. Changing the subject slightly, how many World Titles would Tomas Gollob have won if they were still one of World Finals, I reckon by now he could have won around 3 or 4. -
Very good.

The one song that seems to have been played over and over again at Sheffield is Wipe Out, don't know who the artist is but usually follows a Sheffield 5 - 1.

Yeah lets send Paulco on a tour of modern art galleries, I would love to see what he would have to say about some of these abstract paintings. -

Also Paul means less time spent in the pub, means less chance tripping over kerbs. -
I have posted this message on the Brummies speedway forum.

And I will second that as well.

You might be right there Sandman, I think that is the problem with forums thinks do tend to go a bit deep.

I think that a fund could and should be set up if people want to contribute, but it needs to be set up sensibly and used wisely and constructively. At moment all we know is that Shawn has problems, but how bad those problems are we do not know exactly what his problems are, for example is he working, can he work, if he has problems does he wanted help to get off the alcohol. I know that I sound very practible , but I think that if a fund is to be set up, it needs to be spent on get Shawn through his problems, and at the end of the day it is up to Shawn to proof to people that he wants this, I hop that he would.

Thanks for the latest information Rami, it is very much appreciated.

It is heartbreaking, but keeps happening to sportsmen of all sports, I think that it must be something to do with the buzz of the sport that they do, and when that has gone they going looking for something else to give them that buzz. I don't think that we can fully understand it unless you have been in the same situation.

When you look at that photo you can see a rider who just makes it look so easy, I know that I am biased but you can keep your Gundersen's and your Nielsen's for me Shawn was the man, and there was nobody around at the time that I would have swapped him for.
-
Totally agree with you, and think that we all got few cross wires last night, but I think that what is more important is that at the end of the day, we all care about Shawn and Kelly and that is important.

Thanks Jim, I have seen your PM and replied, and there are no hard feelings on my part.

Sorry, but I think that you are been a bit over the top, here talk about over react. Some ask how old Shawn was and I when went to look I realise it was the mans birthday. I put the comment in wishing him a Happy Birthday, to merely point out it was his Birthday and too wish him a Happy Birthday, alright in a perfect world I should have does everyone realise that it is his birthday, sorry but I am not morbid enough to start thinking is he dead or not, and I don't think that 99.9% of people would.. Also where have I said I don't want to help the man or see the man get financial help, I have not the man has a an alcohol problem and yes he needs help, and I would be the first person to help, but simply throwing money at his problems, and that is if he stills has those problems is not the answer in fact you could kill him. I apologize if I have offended you or anyone else on this forum, that was not my intention to, and I think that we all want the same thing for Shawn to be safe and well.

Right you want to know about the whereabouts of the Moran brothers try Andy M on here, the letter was from a friend of his in the States, who knew the the Moran brothers. The letter was in response to enquiry I made about Shawn been involved in a motorcycle accident, I had heard from others who had been close to both brothers that they had problems with alcohol, and has fallen on hard times The letter more or less confirmed this. The reason that I post the letter was because there was talk about giving the brothers money, and I think the last thing you should be giving people who have an alcohol problem is money, what they need is help to get them off the alcohol, certainly not money, but at the end of the day they have to want to get off it. As for wishing Shawn a Happy Birthday, why can't I, the man was a hero of mine, and I hope that both he and Kelly are both safe and well.

I know when I looked up their dates of Birth I had to take a quick glance at the calendar, and too be honest I found it a bit spooky.

Happy Birthday Shawn.

Perhaps a collection for Shawn might not be such a good idea, I asked about Shawn after I heard that had an accident last year, this was a letter that someone had sent someone on this forum who knew both Shawn and Kelly in the States. Shooey did fall off a motorcycle, but it was nowhere near as bad as losing an arm. Indeed, he had a bottle of whiskey tucked under it when he crashed and both arm and bottle came out unscathed. It really is sad to see Kelly and Shooey living with their mother in what amounts to the projects. I'm from a council estate in Gorton and that person will always be a part of me Andy, but I've never been third in the world, won World Team Cups, been a speedway superstar, or in Shawn's case, won the 1990 World Final in all but name. The pair of them have absolutely nothing left from their respective careers. Back in the day they would ride in Poland before it became as popular as today, and would get "paid" in priceless cut glass crystal, which they would both flog for twenty quid as soon as they landed at Manchester Airport and would basically go "up the wall" as it were. They are both broke and whatever cash they come across, usually from well meaning speedway fans, goes straight in the cash register of the nearest liquor store. I don't know if you ever read VIZ Andy, but the character, 8 ACE could be either of them. It just isn't funny anymore because everyone but Kelly and Shawn can see what it is doing to them. Still saddens me to read the letter, what a terrible waste of a life, lets hope that both have straightened themselves out.

Too right, the man had time for everybody young and old, and deserves to be classed as a true legend not only by the Sheffield supporters but other supporters too.

Aww thanks for that mate, I have just been sat here looking at the photo's. The Shay, now that was a racetrack, long straights with those heavily banked bends, and the crowd so close to the track, when the riders went down the back straight you felt that you could reach out and touch them, they just don't make tracks like that anymore. Sat here trying to think of a modern day rider who reminds me of Shawn, I just cannot think of one at all, no fits the bill. Okay Kelly was probably more exciting hanging off the bike, but Shawn had this wicked style that was ultra smooth, and totally a joy to watch whether he gated or not the way he passed riders sometimes he made it look so easy.

Cannot disagree with you there Sandman, I just wish that Spin KIng Junior could have seen them, I did try to bid for a video on Shawn a few years back on Ebay, so I could show him, but I was outbidded.
