What's The Chance Of A Leicester Surprise
bornagainlion replied to justathought's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
The Lions haven't been at the races most times away so it would be a surprise to me to see them win one let alone all three. That said Worky aren't now ( due to injuries ) at what was to me was the best team I'd seen this season and might be the best chance of an upset. The others I don't think so but then again I didn't expect them to beat Scunthorpe away last season so who knows. As for Ballroom's prediction perhaps he/she meant 2nd overall ??? -
Leicester Vs Workington - 02/09/2012
bornagainlion replied to Firestone1's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I didn't make it to this and don't tend to post now though I do read and for Mick to say it was a good meeting is high praise indeed. He isn't one of the David Hemsley knockers or a rose tinter so kicking myself now. In general I don't think the meetings were any better or worse than the 2nd half of last season (if you ignore the awful first 3) and to go a league season unbeaten at home in only the 2nd one back is some going for anyone. Thank God Glyn stood by Magnus without his points yesterday we may not have been looking at being in meaningful playoffs with a loss and 2 aways to come a top 3 finish could have been 7th. Good to hear the crowd was up too as I went the Midlands thing and got there late but could still pick a place on the fence or seat in the stands! Here's hoping a few people come out of the woodwork to jump on the playoff bandwagon (very Leicester sports fans ) Cheers Warren -
What Is Going On At Leicester ?
bornagainlion replied to djp45's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
This thread has run it's cousre now I think. It was originally about Jason Attwood leaving and Glyn Taylor coming back and was a decent debate for a while and in my opinion got locked when certain posts deserved to be replied to. Glad it was opened again. Now if all that's going on a Leicester is they have to come off for sunshine and use that time for an interval this really is a "nothing to see here" thread and should be put out of it's misery. Unlike some on here I agree with "some" of Robert 72's opinions but this now seems like moaning for the sake of it because there's nothing else to commnet on. Lock this and put anything worthwhile in the Leicester 2012 thread -

Funny if Leicester City or LCCC had won their last 5 home matches everyone would be over the moon but in the wonderful world of speedway we are still talking about the fact the meeting get's interrupted by the sun. In the words of Joan Jett "Why can't we be happy" -

bornagainlion replied to djp45's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
There were 2 or 3 breaks for sun last season. This year there have been 2 already. The first was at the request of the Somerset riders and it was pretty obvious they came off far ealier than any time it happened last season resulting in close to an hours waiting. A betting man might put money on the fact Somerset were struggling like mad in the first few heats it added to their need to come off but let's give them benefit of the doubt. Last weekend the "sun off" was used as the interval so no real problem. Riders aren't refusing to ride when it's sunny just a little concerned about going into tight bends and not being able to see anything because they are blinded by the glare. No disrepect to you but I personally would rather wait 10 to 20 minutes for the sun to go down (during the interval) than spend the same time if not more while paramedics attend to a rider stuck in the airfence or worse. And to think we got all these accolades from the SCB with that chancer Jason Attwood "filling in score cards for petrol money" these SCB officials are a bright lot A bit like yourself paying £16 when it's only £15 to get in or are you that well connected you don't pay and can only remember the price at Peterborough ??? As for not having a say when you've paid good money to watch something/be entertained it may not give you rights but if I went to see a movie, watch football or go to the theatre I can have an opinion. As a "customer" I would expect a busniess to have some more interest than just getting my money if their long term plans are partly dependant on me giving them that money weekly for 7 months of every year. -

No worries I was interested in your post but didn't know any facts to support an argument for or against. Unlike you I think there have been some decent meetings this year apart from last week but then again like you I'd say the first three were pretty dour. All this said if it's still all about the track then anyone who watched the first 7 heats of last nights Sky Premier League will know even so called great racing tracks like the OTA can have meetings with little or no passes (apart from breakdowns) Btw I haven't watched the rest I yet I fell asleep Apologies to the Rebels and all at the OTA the 2nd half of the meeting was good and I enjoyed it. Would have put earlier but thread was locked!!! Cheers Warren -

I didn't reply as I wanted to find out some facts of my own before posting and as I'm not "in the know" as some and somethings I do know I'd rather tell people face to face I didn't think your "theory" was for me to reply to. I however don't feel I'm Lionising (great new word by the way ) anyone just saying things as i see them and let's no forget it's the Lions management that came out and said they didn't want Jason to go.(possibly PR but said?) It was the Lions management that if they really wanted to carry out you Glynns wishes for track changes decided not too at then end of the season when the time was right during the mildest November to January for years. Glyn spent half an hour with me and others in the pits at the end of last year showing just what he was expecting to do to improve things. Jason went of his own accord for reasons only him and a few people obviously really know from this thread (me not being one of them) But if you want to just chuck out theories how this. David Hemsley wants to make changes (possibly team who knows) but not the track because he says that is fine . Jason doesn't agree so leaves. David has an epiphany realises the track isn't any good and we need Glynn Taylor back to do both track and cover the vacant TM duties (it's only filling in the score card for petrol money anyone can do it ) Conveniently months after sacking a guy you need to get back stories emerge that it was Jason Attwood not wanting track alterations behind the dismissal after all. Well first of all if I were Glynn I'd be looking for a bit of compo here for what was obviously a case of unfair dismissal and I'd be a little worried to return to an employer who blatantly lied whilst dismissing me but this just another 2+2=5 theory with no facts to back it up only hearsay and regurgitation of some of the rubbish on here. Who knows but these nesbits are real and anything can happen on the only way is BP I did say I hope Glynn does a good job and I don't have an agenda like some just opinions on what I see/hear. I spoke with Glynn a few times last season and he was enthusiastic and he also did a great job getting the American Tour meeting on at short notice and helped make it a real success for all concerned and all this with Jason Attwood clerk of course doing it for Glynn for nothing on his day off. My biggest wish is for the rest of the season to go well, with the riders we have or others if Glynn/David Hemsley feels changes need to be made, for us to be a competitive team and hopefully with that a few more people back through the gates. Cheers Warren -

Big out cry because people think a lot of the guy as a Track Curator and perhaps people on here blamed David Hemsley for it because Glynn himself stated he had been sacked by David Hemsley for comments made regarding track alterations that should not have been in the public domain. Powerless Team manager you say but then say Mick is spot on that this powerless man ensured we did not get the track changes. As for expenses if you know as much as you think, and to be honest you don't you'll understand what a joke that comment is -

All great that Leicester is getting this experience back but none of the above mentions previous Team management??? So you could say Glyn was more submissive than assertive in preferring to be told what to do. Not a particularly positive Leadership trait. The sentence in bold is spot on in what is required for managing/leading people but having all the experience you mention in the first quoted post doesn't mean anyone would necessarily have those skills of understanding and recognising what makes people tick and how to get the best out of them? I hope Glyn does have these skills in abundance, keeps this team together and makes them over achieve then I'm sure all the Lions fans, including me, will be happy but if management/leadership is about people skills Jason Attwood is a tough act to follow IMO. -

What Is Going On At Leicester ?
bornagainlion replied to djp45's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Hope this helps taken directly from the Lions website Reassuring message from Glyn Taylor Friday, May 18th, 2012 | During the recent course of events that have dominated the week following the resignation of Jason Attwood, people have been speculating that there are going to be further changes. This is a natural thought whenever a new person arrives and he may want to bring in riders who he thinks can do a better job but Glyn Taylor is keen to re-assure everybody that this will not be the case. “I am looking forward to working with all seven riders and with a winning start we have had in the Premier League any thought of new signings are furthest from my mind so as far as I am concerned no-one is going anywhere. All speedway clubs review performances on a month by month basis and we will be no different in the future stated the new Lions team manager. Perhaps some of the stuff we have been led to believe isn't going to happen or it's a bit of PR to get the fans onside before it does??? According to the site Glyn is now team manager ( no mention of Mr Boocock anywhere) and Gareth Chrabaszcz is still track curator so unless anyone with more inside knowledge wants to tell us anything different that's about where things stand now. He has but doesn't meas to say he was happy to resign perhaps he felt it was the only thing he could do but is still disappointed not to be part of something that obviously has been a fairly big part of his life for the last 15 months or so. A bit like breaking up with a decent looking bird when things have hit a rocky patch -

Unless DH has had an epiphany there is nothing wrong with the track so why would he want Glyn to change it?? In all honesty although I'm not convinced that is right the last 4 home meetings have produced some racing and been on a par with most meetings up and down the country or what sky enthuse over on a Monday night ie a fair few races from the gate with some racing sprinkled in. whatever your opinion the remedial work done has brought some improvement and/or the different shale is having a positive effect. If what has been reported on here about moving drains and bringing curbs in is a very costly task then whether Glyn Taylor wants to or not I would doubt it would happen anytime soon with crowds already lower than anything last year and supposed team changes taking away 1/2 of the main reasons people are still going they could drop further. Just who the replacements will be I guess may make a difference but after last years revolving door some might not fancy a punt on leaving a team to come to BP?? There I've managed to sound more negative than Robert72 and yet before all this weeks shenanigans I was telling anyone who'd stopped going to give it another try. After a shakey start (not talking results here before anyone has a go) I really think the improvement has made it worth my £15 but at Leicester I guess we have coined a new motto " If it ain't broke, break it" -

If this is right and the same riders are still here maybe they won't be for much longer? Only Kauko, Magnus and Jan were here last year so will any of these be seeing the door? It's either a man who knows he is bringing in some seriously good talent or one without a clue who gets rid of any of these as they are firm favourites with the Leicester fans and the ones bringing them through the gate. Also if it was rider power why wasn't that the reason cited on here by Glyn himself. Surely a guy like Glyn would have put the record straight when he was relieved of track curator duties? -

I think we are both on the same lines and definitely from reading yours posts I wouldn't lump you in with any side "for or against" I thought Jason did make the odd call like recently like not putting Makinen in for his 4th ride against Redcar but generally he did go with riders 4 programmed rides so maybe it was a learning curve he was just beginning to get to grips with. Motivational abilities could never be questioned and his ability to get riders to want to be here should not be ignored, I think some on here don't understand just what a difference there was in team spirit and that Jason was part of creating that. Good Luck to Jason in whatever he does and let's hope for Glyns sake things go well Cheers Warren -

So much in the know that the Lions co promoter 3 times expressed trying to persuade a guy you describe as just "being in tow when Hemsley was looking for help" to stay a Team Manager! A guy who was Clerk of the Course and SCB official would obviously have no prior knowledge of the sport and no accreditation to carry out that role. I bet DH just called up the department for work and pensions and asked for someone on jobseekers to come and do it. If DavidHemsley is the successful businessman you have spouted about on here why would he employ someone who didn't know what they were doing to manage a team he himself was clearly having trouble getting the best out of As for a guy who was never going to have the clout to sign riders, yes as surely that's the promoters job but a guy without whom Kauko Nieminen would probably be wearing a Comets race jacket this season, a guy who's efforts helped to persuade Magnus Karlsson to sign even though he had 3 other good offers on the table, a guy who's motivational and networking skills helped Leicester Lions, last season, to become at least competitive on the race track when previously all the fans could hope for was a narrow loss at best. As for your comment "no loss at all" well if support is what made Jason go, and your close contacts at the club feel like you do, I can see why and don't blame him. Filled in the scores for a bit of petrol money did he??? Btw my name is Warren and I'm in the bar every week so don't be shy perhaps if you didn't hide behind the anonymity of this site I could see where you were coming from He had the balls give Lambert a tactical at Somerset in heat 8 and got an 8-1 against Davies and Perry (both whom had races wins at that point) this with Nemo up in heat 9! Had the Lions not capitulated after that and got something from the meeting I think most would have said well done team not Jason Attwood my point being in hindsight we can all see what should have been done and even if the Team Manager gets it right they very rarely get the glory but if they get it wrong, as perhaps David Hemsley can appreciate more than most, it's generally no ones fault but theirs. Cheers Warren -

While some of what you say is quite positive you obviously don't know half what you think you do with comments like the one in bold. So maybe when you are having a go at posters for what you percieve as wrong you should think before you type as they may be just like you far from "in the know" and while we're at it in my best Mr Snackette it's f..ing degree not decree -

Leicester Track Debate
bornagainlion replied to robert72's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Nice to see a wider view but i don't see why being humble would make any difference. As I said on another thread it serves no purpose for DH to do a Ratner and say his product is rubbish, well I suppose it would help a load of "told you so's" vent on here , the time for that would be after changes are made for the better. Perhaps now is time for him to attract more sponsorship to bring in the cash to make whaterver changes can be made to improve things. Some here sound like they are expecting DH's programme notes to start with "welcome to BP the worst track in the country" -
I think he even knows the post code now Had it been possible to advertise a couple of weeks before and not have it when Leicester City were live on National TV I'm pretty sutre the crowd would have been at least double. Hopefully the powers that be seen enough to show them how worthwhile it was and yes thanks to Glyn for pushing to put he meeting on. Cheers Warren

Looks like Tuff will be busy updating the tracks ridden section when he gets home At 51 Eddie's hardly talent coming through but he was determined to catch the young lad Rocco yesterday and all the riders home and USA put on a great show. £200 in the auction for the race jacket with only a small crowd compared to the 4TT meeting is fantastic.

Agreed really enjoyed this and for £5 I doubt you'll get better entertainment for 2 hours. Not only did Castro seem intent on going off 10 metres but his Chris Holder leg impressions as he struggled to get things straight coming in/out of turn 4 were a joy to watch, very entertaining
