Leicester v Redcar BCS 30.03.19
bornagainlion replied to Barrow Boy 2's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
If that's right they are possibly over 25 years old in some cases. I worked at the leisure centre in the mid 90's and those lights were defo there for the all weather pitches in 1995!!! -
What the reason for that? I can't remember him doing anything other than giving his best at a difficult early time for the reformed club. Wasn't he even made to reluctantly attend a meeting he couldn't ride in because of a wedding (recall him in his suit in the bar afterwards) Surely being the ex-captain of the Lions is a "proper" connection?
-
Seems a long time ago but in the early days both Hall and, while he was there, Mathieu Tresarrieu both rode the boards for wins when others wouldn't. Hall getting 17 once from 6 rides and not all from the gate. Sometimes when a rider attacked it the track did have more to give. All lot of the better times in the old prem were when the track was how the riders wanted it which didn't produce great racing but not everyone moaned seeing wins.
-
If he believes this is correct then why not go back to Saturday nights in the old prem and get a few back watching a competitive team against another actual team instead of guests. The financial suicide was going elite league in the first place with such a weak team and poor track reputation meaning you're lucky to have one sky meeting a season. Lions are just being used to make up the numbers and getting nothing out it as far as I can see.
-
If the planning only allows for weekend race night what is the point of Leicester announcing they are running 2017 in whatever they now call the Elite league. It would be commercial suicide for any new promotion and everyone knows that. You'd need a football type investor who has a money no object view. They'd need to be prepared to lose significant amount season in season out while tracking the worst team in the league every year because you can't get anyone decent to ride weekends. If there is supposed to be two groups interested I'd be very surprised if either would want to take over under those restrictions. If Lions can only race at weekends surely the old premier league is the correct option, run Saturdays and get people coming again every week instead of one in three/four to watch a poor side v a team of guests.

Leicester V Coventry Mon 27th June
bornagainlion replied to stevethelion's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
It's bedlam around that area between 5-6pm on a week night outer ring and link to major roads etc plus with half the people rushing back to watch the game it will be even busier. I doubt they'd be anyone there at all (apart from the diehards) to be in the bar later. It would make more sense to change the day. -
A lot of posts here talking about lawful phrases, applying the law in this situation and multiple counts DH is indicted on but surely that would assume that the SCB and BSPA always follow some moral code rule book aligned to English law and not just make it up as they go along wouldn't it?
-
At one point I thought those vert ramps are going to be wicked
-
Hindsight is a wonderful thing but 1500 people watching premier league speedway and other events right up until Oct every Saturday evening (some Sundays) must look wonderful now compared to the "Elite" league. What next Leicester Bees on a Friday nights or another Newport. As speedibee says the knives are out lets just hope its not the keys to the JCB come September
-
Surely he should have been riding with Chris Widman not against. I don't know the circumstances for Starke and how late the Lions knew he couldn't ride but you'd think there would be a spare EDR rider that could have been used? The Lakeside reserves weren't exactly the likes of CW. No disrespect to Chris Widman if he was helping out last minute.

Well that puts paid to all the Lions wouldn't beat a PL team Crowd did look bad never seen so many spaces on the fencing before. A few years back you had to be there an hour before to get near the fence. Worrying times but hopefully a win might interest a few, as for the track it looked better and there was some passing, though not much.
-
could this be worse than the 2011 comeback season V Glasgow think only one of theirs didn't get in double figures 28-62 ??
-
I'm hoping it's good enough to attract sky for a couple of extra meetings and reduced admission
-
Surely with those Rose tinteds an Old Bee like you would prefer the track left as it is so you could reminisce the 70's and early 80's gaters paradise Brandon was David Hemsley may or may not have really believed what he said about the track but in fairness he could hardly do a Ratner and tell everyone it was cr@p no matter what he thought. Here's to hoping it all works out for the best now and the venue has the track it deserved and the fans the entertainment. I'll give it another go for sure.
-
The interest is there but I have only been once since 2012 and that was the reduced price sky meeting this season. I tend not to post because if I'm not there it's not fair to comment on the weekly track debate etc. I still follow on updates etc but too much to pay for me on a regular basis when the entertainment isn't there. Granted it does seem, from updates and posts, that some meetings have a lot more genuine passes and close racing compared to when I went regualrly but full price now for both my son and me which makes a big hole in £50 with a couple of drinks each and fuel. Hope you're well and the lad is enjoying life?
-
Surely its a case of having too with it all finished for the Lions this term? I remember them putiing on a challenge match v a USA touring side at the end of the first season and that was in October!! There had been racing up until then. 4 weeks revenue gone, higher running cost in the EL and supposedly lower gates (even at £2 a meeting more) must mean it's been difficult to turn a profit and if you aren't how do you pay for better riders and track alterations ?

I won't be attending and this time it's nothing to do with cost of paying full price for a student or the track though with the weather the last week or so I very much doubt Saturday will produce another Ippo or Somerset type meeting. I always maintained the track produced something nearer to what fans really wanted when it was soaking wet even in the first season the start of the fours meeting was decent in my opinion till the rain stopped it. No this weekend I'm taking my lad to see Liverpool play Preston away its £15 each to get in same as the speedway and considerably more to get there but the difference is football has always been my love and passion. When speedway returned I genuinely felt the same , I hadn't gone to a single meeting since Blackbird road closed and suddenly all the sights, smells and excitment of going to speedway were back again but two seasons in and for me it was waning. I still check updates every meeting home and away and really want the team to do well but I'm just not that interested in going again right now, I guess you get out the habit. -

They are not as you say immune but surely like the majority of workplaces this should be done behind closed doors unless like the majority of workplaces the owner wants a grievence or constructive dismissal case to answer to. As Lions Den said it's a shame that what sounds like one of the two best meetings of the season (Ippo being the other) now gets overshadowed by something else. I suppose it's better than moaning about the track. Before you ask I didn't go and haven't been all season after going to every home (bar two due to hoidays) and some aways. -
Leiceter Vs Plymouth 25/5/13
bornagainlion replied to lionking's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Something the Lions havent been able to achieve in previous seasons visits to the SBA! so despite Plymouth being rock bottom I don't think it will be that easy, agreed that even with Cookie as guest the Lions should find things easier at BP though. -
Leicester Lions 2013
bornagainlion replied to Honey Monster's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Along with the new logo appearing on the website last years sponsors have disappeared ?? What Leicester " " Lions are they going to be this year and what kind of investment are any new sponsors (if there are any I'm not in the know so couldn't say) going to be willing to make in the current economic climate?
