  3. Are you free on Friday? then come to an informal get together at the Masonic Hall on the Hoe. Think strictly the address is Citadel Road, however for those who know the area its on the low level bit instead of turning up towards the Citadel very very close to the junction with New Street, in fact the last building before it becomes New Street. hopefully there will be some 2016 flyers to collect and distribute, beer at very reasonable prices and hopefully most of the management team will be there for a chat. not sure of a formal start time but 7.30 ish sounds good. Parking can be a problem because some spaces are residents only however, there are spaces on the Barbican and its a short walk up New Street (for those who dont know Plymouth, New Street was 'new' in the 1600s) Perhaps we can all hope that from now on the rain will stop on Saturdays to allow 'Dads Army' to get on with tidying up the site, thanks to Steve Hunt 18 tons of tarmac has been laid in the pits area to combat the mud and dust. The on site water pump has been working its little socks off and has done its job keeping water level on 3 and 4 down to a puddle.
  4. The word Development in National Development League is the most important word in British Speedway, because without it the UKVI would not allow non eu riders a visa to come to the UK. It shows as far as they are concerned British Speedway have a planned development route to allow progression through the speedway ranks for British riders to ultimately replace the riders currently requiring a visa. sotty to ask this question here but, are the Stock Cars moving to the new track or are they staying put at the old one.
  5. Think Bluebottle was a Flying Fifteen which must be the prettiest sailing boat ever designed, only practical point against it was the fact it had a deep fixed keel which prevented it sailing in water less than chest deep and meant it could only be trailer launched in deepish water .
  6. with the possible demise of Coventry and Lakeside due to site redevelo[pment in 2017 apart from BV and KL we are left with EL clubs who rent their stadium space from Stadium owners who schedule their own events on nights they believe will bring them the greatest profit, speedway has to work around these events. I believe that effectively puts a stop to a particular day being used for EL Fixtures, it could also sound the death knell for certain PL clubs who can only race on a restricted pallette of race night due to local council planning restrictions, if implemented.
  7. THEY will be made very welcome by the Pavlic family, Daria is a super lady with her head firmly screwed on, did a University degree at Bournemouth a few years ago and speaks better english than most Brits. Chris Harris used to go there regularly, believe there is an on site fully equipped gym and restaurant as well but beware the local slivovitz it is poweful stuff. good weather there at that time as well, lots of germans, czechs etc go there for training, track staff work on the track all day to keep it in top class condition the right choice
  8. SHOCK HORROR Another speedway question tonight, what sport would have a match between Swindon Robins and Coventry Bees.
  9. not being able to run on Good Friday, due to the Elite moving their fixtures to that day and also May day must be costing the promotion a serious amount of badly needed money. Its time the Premier league used their numerical supremacy to ensure they are not walked all over.
  10. was it Prince Charles boat that was called Bluebottle or was it Uffa Fox. Looking at the fixture list what is the point in a Good Friday Challenge with a League cup TWO WEEKS later at zummerzet, the Swindon/Poole fixture is now on Easter Sunday not Good Friday which means I think both Plymouth and Zummerzet teams can be at FULL STRENGTH ON GF evening the reason it became a challenge in the first place. because it was assumed that Poole and Swindon would do as in years past with both legs on GF.
  11. If you ask fans from yesteryear the thing they really remember is the smell of Castrol R hanging in the air, the smell disappeared when the era of the JAP engine was superceded. Why dont tracks do what the lads of the 60s used to do, add a good dollop of Castrol R to the tractor fuel tanks to bring the smell back.
  12. by coincidence I have just bought the Fleetwood Mac album of the same name
  13. at last nights Herald newspaper sports awards at the Plymouth Pavilions The Devils were awarded the trophy for team of the year it was presented by Kevin Keegan and Sharon Davies. I think she has fallen in the water a few times.
  14. Why not rearrange Edinburgh for Friday May 20 according to SS Fixtures both sidea are free that night
  15. From what i hear in 2017 it will need all the PL promoters to grow a pair and finally tell the EL promotions that there are more of us than you, you do NOT tell us how to run our tracks . Maybe its time to go back to the times when both leagues ran their own business without refererence to the other A very average EL heat leader with a diminishingh average i hear is asking for a £2000 guarantee per meeting.
  16. I see that according to the Speedway Star list of PL Signed riders Plymouth have signed Jack Parker that really puts Charlie Gs age in the shade.
  17. Currently on nationwide cinema release is a major film called Concussion relating to head injuries in American Football, there have been calls in US for American football to be banned because figures are showing players are twice as likely to get Alzheimers as non players
  18. reliability in formula one this past season has been at an all time high amongst most of the teams think honda have suffered due to the no testing rule, what a bloody stupid rule allegedly brought in to save money, one grenaded engine probably blows that budget out of the window. dont think an oil change after every meeting will be needed a question does anybody know a source in the uk for JB German oil?
  19. The Devils were originally named by Jimmy Baxter iin 1947 to counter his other promotion at Southampton THE Saints pre war Plymouth were amongst others the tigers and the panthers. Ironically the SBA is owned by the catholic church.
  20. JENGA, I thought 2 people grabbed you, turned you upside down, dipped your head in a bucket of paint and ran your head around the inside to form the white line
  21. a super result from Jack, 15 point max in the qualifiers plus winning the sudden death final in front of Brady K and Max Fricke looking forward to a possible blockbuster season, very top congratulations
  22. I believe that the Conservation area status gives the council the powers to make full repairs to the stadium if the appropriate council officers believe there is a danger to the survival of the structure. This action would be cost neutral to the council because the cost of the work can be passed onto the stadium owners and if unpaid the council can take a 'charge' on the property and ultimately take the stadium into council ownership. IN Devon next to the A38 between Exeter and Plymouth is Buckfastleigh Race Course the grandstand still stands although racing hasnt taken place since the 60s or 70s, because it was listed and has to be kept in good repair.
  23. talking to someone who knows more about the engine than me I understand the crucial element of the engine is a very special high spec oil pump, this pump will effectively flood every part of the internals with a lot of oil at all times, this will help to reduce internal wear, and also local temperatures and increase the engine life. The pump is, I understand based on formula one car technology where 4 engines have to do 20 races of some 200 miles each or 2 hours each race. This suggests the pump should easily cope with a speedway season. a piston ought to be able to do 30 miles (390 metres x 4 lapsx 30 matches) as should a cam and its associated mechanicals, crankshafts plus big end bearings ought to be able to do a season if made to a good spec and especially quality materials. Bearings tend to be bought in from specialist manufacturers who also supply for other engines where they last many miles, speedway tuners will say they need replacement, but do they then go in the bin or into the next bike through the doors? This bottom end fragility suggests a lack of oil OR rubbish metal spec for the bottom end. The Gerhard spec appears to have grabbed these 'Cheap' shortcuts and applied top spec materials to the problem areas. Only time will ultimately answer these questions.
  24. Dont forget Jessica Lamb who briefly rode for P;ymouth in their first Conference league? season.
  25. The WMN article says Rob will be maing an announcement about a proposed new venue for speedway in EXETER it seems that you are saying he will not be identifying the venue, i think it would be a better idea to put in a pre planning application, it could save a shed load of money over the planning process.every speedway fan i speak to are fully aware of the location anyway.
