  1. a former rider who does NOT live in Newquay and is a cousin of a 2016 Premier League rider COULD be the answer to the question
  2. I understand that Mike Bowden may have made an offer for Plymouth Speedway, if my information is accurate the cheque would only have 4 numbers on it and 9,8,7,6, 5or 4 doesn't feature in the line immediately after the £ sign it is believed.
  3. the appeal to GOD naturally drew my attention, and I have been giving it serious thought over the past few days, having already ploughed a lot of money into the promotion over the past few years, however with my current medical problems (need a zimmer to walk, problems with DVLA over driving iicence, they insist I have medical problems of their own invention and will not accept the word of consultants at the Plymouth Hospitals that I do not have those conditions, would make it impossible for me to be able to run the promotion the way I would llke to. From experience, it IS effectively a full time job if you are going to do it properly, until you manage to build up a backroom team you can trust completely to take some of the weight off. I would love to take it on BUT I have unfortunately to face up to my current medical problems which I hope are temporary, and accept that at the current time I just cant do it physically. IT would be targeted as FUN ON A FRIDAY TO START THE WEEKEND, lots of explosives, lots of propane burners, brighter lights already supplied them with new floods for the start area for the season gone back in February but were never installed, new 22,000 lumen LED floods for the bends, also already supplied, better loos, better presentation, it needs someone who can work a crowd. Its not Rye House science.
  4. Do the peas give you enough gas to get the car ALL the way home?
  5. another basic error made was that the people providing the finance, i.e the promoters ,devolved the team building/ rider pay negotiations to a non financially involved third party. lost control of their costs at that point. Its no good moaning that no one helps you IF you wont allow anybody else to help you except for labourer work.
  6. one thing I forgot from my earlier post, since Peninsula Promotions took over from Mike Bowden, every single team sponsor has found an excuse/ reason (in THEIR mind) to not pay the club their agreed sponsorship money. Plymouth are therefore at least £20k short of of where they should be. Suspect the administrator will be chasing those companies for the money owed. if I told you the reason one didn't pay you wouldn't believe it
  7. Plymouth Albion rugby club were in serious financial problems about a year ago and currently are drawing about half the crowds of 3 or 4 years ago, Plymouth Argyle gates have fallen from over 20,000 to in the region of 7000. The people of Plymouth have long been a fickle lot and currently seem to have fallen out of love with all sporting events. Promoting any spectator events in the city in order to make money you run them once, do a lot of publicity, take the money and run. Plymouth people only turn out for events that are FREE Local media don't help, only TV coverage has been when things have gone wrong and newspaper coverage has concentrated on the negative all year. a brilliant marketing deal with McDonalds was dumped by the so called new marketing manager because it didn't bring in cash, just publicity aimed at young people in every branch in Plymouth together would have been Devils flyers, with incentives for speedway fans at Mcs branches bring the programme for a free coffee and the william anchor dumped it . PROMOTE is a word not understood in Plymouth, no advertising anywhere in the city, 15000 flyers printed by me where are they. I am now too old and too disabled to take it on, it needs an Ian Thomas to grab it by the scruff of its neck, accentuate the BS, get a professional centre green presenter who can work a crowd, and give them a SHOW every week. Certain people behind lthis years promotion look down on my views, such as getting a press battle going with Somerset, just as Colin and myself did for 6 weeks 15 years ago, it brought more people through the gates at both tracks. SPEEDWAY IS ENTERTAINMENT and has to be promoted as such NOT too much as a sport OH for a Vic Lonsdale, Frank Evans, Chris Julian, Clive Hitch and the runaway Lynx from Dartmoor Zoo. .
  8. Colin Hills estate residue was, as far as I know paid out to the trustees of his estate ten years after his death.
  9. weather forecast for Friday not too good, Beeb are saying lots of rain while ITV seem to be saying the odd shower so you takes your pick As a Plymouth fan, can I please thank everybody for their kind words and practical help. My visits have been limited by 8 weeks in hospital and my loss of mobility god bless Mr Zimmer BUT I think a bit of self diagnosis may have finally cracked the cause of my problems. Having stopped one prescribed medication, in 3 days I feel 100% better.
  10. Since I posted on here about the Video enhancement my Facebook account has been scammed, so if you get any communications from FB claiming to be from me ITS NOT
  11. there is some CCTV images of the 2 perpetrators dressed in hoodies, the images need a dose of digital enhancement to give a better chance of recognition, looks as if the experts in video and sound in Plymouth, and my former employers are willing to give it a go.
  12. read the chapter in Ian Thomas book about Newcastle going under
  13. well, when Trelawny closed the receiver came after me for 25k, even though I had resigned as a director 6 months before it ended because he said we were trading while bust in December and January of the months before Trelawny went into receivership even though we were inactive in those months and not actively trading
  14. To my mind SOME of the Directors of Peninsula Promotions don't appreciate the nuances of company law, they believe that going into Receivershipp wipes out all the debts and they are home free NOT SO Directors are what is called jointly and severally responsible for the debts IF they have assets on a personal basis the receiver will demand the whole debt from one director, if by selling everything that Director cannot cover the complete debt they them move to another director for the outstanding balance and so on. I understand it as impossible to discover who the debtors are last night well a couple of clues, one has the name of a well known former Plymouth car dealer who built Britains first circular self serve petrol station but now counts other peoples money. I was 69 on Wednesday but I didn't partake of the appropriately named scotch whisky, not even sure if you can still buy it, anyway drop the 69 from the brand name
  15. Plymouth Albion Rugby club have announced today that they are also going into administration People in Plymouth seem to be concentrating on shopping rather than sport
  16. First everybody got paid on the night on Friday and I am told by one of the consortium members evetrybody will be paid for Rye House I think I ought to make it clear that I am not and never have been an official member of the consortium, I chose not to join because one member had dumped on me big time when I was running trelawny in 2002 and I did not wish to have the experience repeated. Plus the Catholic church school headmaster objected to me being part of it because I told a joke about 4 cardinals, thjis from a man who a few weeks later got sacked when he was caught with his trousers round his ankles IF I had joined seems it would have happened again, I have however sponsored various items at the track and helped out financially THE MEETING REFERRED TO EARLIER I UNDERSTAND IS ON THURSDAY EVENING. SPONSOR, not only lost for coming season but due to todger trouble only paid half of last years money and kept club on a string till mid feb
  17. yes they have, the one that affected me most was a lovely American lady who had a crash on a wall in Germany, had operation after operation on her back and eventually died as a result of the pain killers she was forced to take, there have been a few more immediate deaths plus of course Yvonne Stagg whose boyfriend Gunther died in mysterious circumstances been quite a few lucky escapes such as the front of show rollers seizing and launching the bike into the crowd the forces on the body tend to result in varicose veins and heart problems in later life
  18. the wall first hit uk fairgounds in 1929 and was an immediate success, so much so that traditional fairground ride operators complained about the money it sucked out of the fairground spend The Indian Scout of the middle to late 1920s became the trick bike to use, because it had large footboards, control cables were routed inside the handlebars, the seat was pretty much level with the fuel tank which allows plenty of movement around the bike for tricks and stunts and indeed even today the Indian is still the bike to use, a little push switch on the handlebars causes the engine to pop and bang, adding to the drama. from the very start speedway riders have often doubled up with a bit of wall riding, although these days wall riders only do wall riding there are currently 3 travelling wall operators, Ken Fox and his family who operate 2, the Messham family who hhave been involved since at least the 40s, and the Demon drome operated by a Cornish family from Blackwater who bought Allan FORDS Motordrome wall when he had to retire due to poor health. lots more details available on various websites. a conventional wall needs a speed of 35 to 40 mph, but I hear from my Friend Gerry de ROYE (the worlds oldest wall rider at 84) that Guys wall needs a speed of at least 60 to get onto the wall from the banking track incidentally the wall of LES MOORE was eaten by termites
  19. understand that Jack is really suffering from the cold temperatures here in the UK, rode last weekend with the effects of flu
  20. don't forget, hopefully The Racers will be back on track SOON, in fact April 8 when Plymouth plan to run aa 4TT with the teams being Plymouth, Exeter, Trelawny and Reaading currently Reading team is shaping up as Charlie Gjedde, Sam Simota, and the son of Reading legend Per Jonsson Dennis hopefully team managers will be Tim Sugar, if the government haven't put a tax on him, and/or Ivan Shears. rumour has it that a coach may be organised contact Chalfont coaches to confirm
  21. Plymouths practice took place under what was probably one of the best sunny skies of the year, all the team members seemed to get some good track time, I think personality wise this team is really going to gel together. Charlie was trying various set up changes, looked the consummate professional, Kyle was fresh back from Gorican with the training camp and really enjoyed the trip. Sam has recently been on a ski trip with Pavel Ondrasik and the Prague club and has lost more weight, was looking very physically fit, has expanded his bike repertoire. Ellis Perks impressed a lot of the spectators with his aggression on track, and what a lovely guy Stefan Neilsen is, plus he looked very useful on track. Jack was in good form and despite the temperature change didn't seem to be too cold. all in all an enjoyable afternoon for all.
  22. Matt, from what I hear there could be some very good news for you within the next two weeks or so, for once speedway might displace footy close to a railway line
  23. no need to worry about GP riders not being available on Friday nights, there will be no gp riders in british speedway next season elite league teams will build to pl strength, all non national leagu teams will be in one league status, maybe split north and south play offs will b top 2 north v top 2 south think some pl teams may bite the bullet and drop to the national could reduce travelling if they went east/west instead of north/south peripheral location teams like Plymouth, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Berwick will not have their applications for league status accepted
