  1. Deano reading that report seems the 26bn is not an annual value, but npv of the long term income generated. Nonetheless that us a significant positive contribution
  2. I'll put them up on here once I've finished adding a few results. Version I did in early august is on here in the gp and swc forum I think.
  3. British tourism agency estimates the royal family generates 500 million pounds per year. The most detailed info I can find suggests net revenue generated of 1.1 billion per year. Though conversely I see a body called "republic" claiming net annual deficit of 350m though I suspect they are not unbiased. Suspect the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Though if you were to liquidate the 50b of crown assets I can see the uk would be better off even with a modest 5% return. But if you were to seize those estates it surely undermines the whole basis on which the free market is based.
  4. Can't see that team fitting the points limit Convert the averages, with weightings for meetings ridden as a 2nd string. Simple concept and produces a fair average for all riders.
  5. Good post vice. Conversely, it seems clubs have the ability to terminate contracts at a moments notice, without compensation. I would assume tgerefore that the contractor (I. E. rider) should have the same ability to do so. However, of that is the case I can see that the scb would be able to have conditions such as a rider being only able to ride for x number of clubs in a competition on one season which presumably would stop a rider from "club hopping" during a season.
  6. Dolgins rankings, which are based on performances over two years, have pawlicki at 18th (16th if you exclude ward and hampel). Laguta puk and kk are all higher ranked. I like pawlicki, I'd say he is certainly top 15 in the world this year, top 10 is probably borderline. I'm already excited about next year's series. Fwiw dolgins top 5 (excluding ward);is Doyle Hancock dudek tai zmarzlik.
  7. I remember in the 80s,lots of whingeing from promoters about foreign riders missing bl meetings due to overseas commitments and saying only riders willing to prioritise bl shoukd be given team places. Now the boot is on the other foot and polish clubs paying a premium are asking riders to prioritise their league. I still fail to see how this is unreasonable. I could pay a builder a premium and expect him to prioritise my job over other jobs he may have on offer.
  8. What I'd like: EL to go fixed race nights, single round per the swddish/polish model, ideally with 10 teams. Sides also able to put out a pl team as well. El to take precedence on riders on those fixed race nights. Minimum 3 brits per team in El, one must be u23. PL minimum 4 brits, Inc two reserves one must be u21 one underc23. Adopt SCB converted averages, with published list of converted foreign league averages for those that fid not race in uk in 16. Redeclarations must be done under point limit. Revert to a conventional race format - suggest the old bl format used in 90 which was the classic 13 heats plus extra reserve race and nominated heat 15. Brits allowed to enter SEC.
  9. Or one rider or one promoter "takes one for the team" and challenges it. The ideal would be someone like PK (who is retiring)to tell wolves he wants to ride for team x and team x to say they will not pay a fee. PK rides one meeting for the team then retires. DH seems to have burnt all bridges so maybe Leicester could be the ones to bring down this system.
  10. Just completing myvrankings for 2016 and it looks something like: greg Doyle tai dudek zmarzlik g laguta holder kk puk pawlicki. That's ignoring Smolinski who is clearly an anomaly. And if I was naming a subjective top 10 I would certainly include Emil at the expense of one of those, probably pawlicki at this time.
  11. I reckon 3 is ok Sid. There would be 30 brits rode El this year, plus a barker, stead and some promising youngsters. SCB: suggestion would be that 10% should be added to all those averages. That would allow a team building limit of 42.5 or 43 which could then be retained for the season. That would also impact conversions for other leagues - pl to 65%, elitseren 115%, ekstraliga 120% and other leagues varying.
  12. In what way? They would earn less in uk? 80k not 100k? With polish figure being right at about 4 times uk earnings?
  13. I would say they can have an exclusivity clause though, or partial exclusivity clause. It is up to the compsny/rider whether they sign up to such a contract
  14. From what I can see, average weekly wage in 1970 was about 30 quid. Average house price was 3 times that. Don't know about uk, but in Auckland average house boric is now over 12 times the average full time salary. Even with low interest rates, that's seriously less affordable@
  15. Would anyone gauge am engine on Harris' ability to get the best out of it. Bomber seems a good bloke who gives his all, but is there anyone at the top level with less ability to get set ups right?
  16. Can I just check what u mean by 5 weeks wages to finance your monthly mortgage? So your weekly gross wage was 10 quid? And you and your partner spent 5 weeks gross wages to pay the mortgage. 10 quid seems awfully low as a weekly wage in the 70s?
  17. I think unless they rode here in 16 they should be re assessed. Exactly. Every rider should be reassessed if they did not ride here in 2016. The plus side of that for poole is that janowski would shave about a point off his average.Tbh I'd be ok with it being extended back to 15 IF a published average for every to rider is made at the beginning of the season.
  18. Can't see any issue with employment law (unless there are experts on polish law on here). Firstly he us not an employee. Secondly, I am sure the Polish club can quite legitimately insert a clause restricting his ability to take other contracts. He can take it or leave it. Thirdly, I imagine his contract with swindon either contains a clause allowing either party to terminate or is legally unenforceable (otherwise clubs would not be able to simply sack riders). Really don't understand people being up in arms on this, when do many have argued that British clubs should hire only riders committed to British speedway Would add that Doyle under this propsal can ride in both England and sweden, but needs to commit to ekstraliga taking priority. Which if the uk had set race nights would not be an issue...
  19. Can't disagree with that. But it is harder than ever to get on the property ladder - not saying it was ever easy. But scb is right in pointing out that it doesn't always make sense to get on the property ladder. Right now is probably a good time to hold off in the hope that Brexit brings down prices, forces mortgagee sales etc. and allows a first home buyer with cash good buying.
  20. I think the PL is equally dependent. What would help is El going to set race nights and have priority on riders on those nights. Good fixture planning should avoid impact on PLAnd restrict doubling up to brits imo.
  21. Wouldn't think so, unless he only leases rather than sells the engines? Assume any warranty could be voided, but doubt you can legally stop someone pulling apart something they have purchased.
  22. Of course it sometimes makes more sense to rent that to buy. Rent is "dead money" but only to the same extent that morgage interest is. Maintenance on your own propoerty is dead money. Essentially the equation is: Is capital gain less interest payments and maintenance give you a better outcome than rent paid? And if interest rates move, or the market collapses, will you still be able to afford repayments. there are many cases where the latter is going to be a better option. and I say this as a 30 something on the property ladder, having seen the value of my property increase by over $500k (about 250k GBP) since I bought it. And actually, i'd be much better off if the market had stayed where is was 5 years ago, or modest increases, as I'd then much more easily be able to sell and upsize, or but a second home and use this one as a holiday home. Personally, i think SCB would have been better off buying some time back, as i think it's far from certain that the property market is "overpriced" (people have been saying for years that Auckland property market is, but it has kept heading one way only). but I understand his reasons for not doing so. i thought you said you had the facts and figures?
  23. Milik should come in on somewhere between an 7.2 and 7.9, based on his average in Poland this season imo (the latter would be if a 10% increase is needed to reflect the higher standard). Lindback would be 7.6-8.3 (average of Swedish and Polish top flights).
