So why were wolves not punished for allowing Thorssel to race? Surely it should be both or neither?
-
Wrong Pawlicki? And I thought he'd been having a decent season, just poor in this one. Really? I thought given the conditions there was some decent racing. Agree, the Daugvspils meeting last year I'd one of the great meetings of all time. This season the line up is down in quality, though milik and lebedev are great to watch. Racing this year has still been pretty decent imo

Buster Chapman - Is He Good For The Sport?
waiheke1 replied to SCB's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
The fixture planning is shambolic and is one of the main causes for riders missing. The Leicester kings Lynn meeting though I think is a rare exception to that rule. Not sure Leicester could have foreseen that KL would ditch holder and batch and replace them with riders who would be unavailable, that Kai would make the euros or Lambert be injured. Or that such inadequate cover would be arranged. KL fault not Leicester's or the fixture planners. -
Is This Swindon Team The Best Of Recent Times?
waiheke1 replied to DC2's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I agree the asset system is stupid, but I'm not sure what you think riding 8 meetings has to do with it? -
How is it different though? Both have prioritised a polish fixture over a UK one. Either the rules allow this or they don't. Thorssels was worse because wasn't that a re arranged polish fixture?Personally I would say both should get a ban. But as Thorssels did not I struggle to see why Holder should.

Time To Crack Down On The Aussies?
waiheke1 replied to Daniel Smith's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
So maybe we should just say if you want to ride in Britain, you can ride only in Britain, your home country and one other league. And Britain must be given priority in event if a fixture clash.Would that seem reasonable? -
Time To Crack Down On The Aussies?

But surely most do, with the exception of the top stars that have top tier contracts in Poland? Are you saying you would rather not have the world's best rider race here?J Holder missing a CL meeting I understand is an issue, but there I would argue we should simply not allow doubling up for non brits. -
Time To Crack Down On The Aussies?
waiheke1 replied to Daniel Smith's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Tbh I have no issue with things being put in place which mean places are not filled with mediocre foreigners rather than brits. But at the same time the league is enhanced by having quality young riders from overseas. Is suggest they shouldn't be allowed to double up and agree they should have a finite period to achieve a certain standard. But let's not view them as "using" the UK. Many people take a job to become proficient at it, then move elsewhere once a better job cones along. That's life and it's actually desirable. So long as they have given their all during the "apprenticeship" period everyone wins. But why? In what way would British speedway be in a better state if it hadn't given chances to the likes of ward holder fricke, or going further back crump and Adams or crump and sanders? -
Time To Crack Down On The Aussies?
waiheke1 replied to Daniel Smith's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Well yes, but Holder senior is in quite a unique situation, given circumstances with his son.He also wouldn't be impacted by a tightening up on requirements at this stage. Do people really think British speedway is poorer for its fans having witnessed the likes of holder X2, Doyle, Ward, Morris Kurtz develop? Presumably kiwis would be impacted by any change too - would swindon fans prefer that BWD not be allowed to ride here? -

Can you explain the logic given that a UK work visa does not allow someone to work in Poland? -

Pretty sure Swindon would have gone bankrupt in the 80s if that was the case... -

Is that the weakest ever top flight side fielded? -
The FIM get a fee and that should be passed through to the respective countries. No idea what actually happens to that money.GP series is by far my favourite speedway, though obviously my nearest track being 10+ hours flight away makes a difference there - if I was attending the NSS each week I'm sure the Aces would be my number one focus. The GP series is though speedway as it should be- but agree there should be a better flow of income to federations and arguably riders as well.
-
Not convinced the GP series is the main issue. I'd say the Polish and Swedish leagues are the main problem, without them the top riders would all still be riding in GB and the only impact of GPs would have been to remove a number of Saturday nights from the British calendar. If British speedway was presented like the gps and of the same quality a lot of issues would also disappear.

Not according to speedway stats or proboards sitea. 8.84 Inc BP in 2011 seems to be his best season.I understand the arguments that the league is weaker now, but I'd say Batch is riding as well, or close to as well, as he ever has. It's just that he seems to annoy his home fans because he's a mardy aussie who doesn't like riding when it's wet. -

Which they can under the IRR rule so I don't see your point? In fact even before the IRR rule if someone was injured or fell sick reserves could take their rides -

OK. But according to sped way stats website average wise this is his best ever season? Or at least was as of end of June. -
At the start of each season, every rider without a valid average from the previous season in the UK, who competed in a European league should be assigned a converted average that applies if they join the UK.So as an example someone riding ekstraliga and averaging 8 might be assigned a conversion rate of 1.15 so would come in on a 9.2. Easy to do and would be totally transparent. Yes there would still be the occasional "bargain" but at least it would be clear to all.
-
Really? I'm pretty sure it's not new that you cannot get a replacement for a rider competing in a non FIM individual meeting overseas? SEC specifically the rule (no favility) has been the same for the last 4 or so seasons

Those top tier figures seem low?

Batch is averaging 8.31 this year with BP or 7.94 without? Not sure where you get the 7 from?He sits 11th in the averages of those who have ridden more than half a dozen meetings, which is roughly where you'd expect him to be? You can accuse Batch justifiably of many things, but I don't think you can complain that his results this year are disappointing. Not good luck, it was a good move, and one that was 99% likely to have improved them.Of course the ridiculous rule which allowed Musielak to come in on that low average i's another story...
