Comparison might be if KC hadn't fallen off and les Collins ended up world champ in 82. Havvy in 92 was better than Collins in 82

Mickey Rooney?Only meeting we ever left before the last heat, awful conditions and looked certain to be called off after a crash in about heat 14.

Do We Still Need The Play-offs

But it's not just 4 that get rewards? The teams in 5th and6th will also have more to race for in the chase for the playoffs. And even 7th and 8th will have something at stake for longer -

I'm not sure whether you are being sarcastic or not? -
No he's not.But the important question here is: Is Gary Havelock the rider's name or the name of his sponsor?

TBH from a business perspective Flange is right on this occasion, revenues would surely have been maximised by reversing the pricing. BUT it's a nice touch and should ensure a massive crowd and great atmosphere and hopefully lead to a bumper crowd for the final at say $20 Of course it could also be that Poole are an unattractive opposition so the meeting needs discounting, whereas the mighty Aces are much more of a draw card and hence justify full price admission -

Champions League? -
Yes a good record. Not as good as Tais though. What was your issue with Tai again, I seem to have missed your response.
-
Really? I think one poster mentioned dreadlocks on a negative light, in direct response to someone comparing him positively to Tai. Most people couldn't care less about his dreadlocks. Now you seem to be still avoiding the question. In what way do you not consider Tai a good role model in comparison to other British world champs?

It was directly at you, obviously. Not sure you could target any posters on here with anti Muslim comments, as I'm not sure there are any openly Muslim posters? -
I think it's a very interesting post. Wish Gustix posted more of this kind of thing. Seems to be recirrring theme that speedway is in decline. Certainly in the 80s there were. Pmplsints aboutctooany foreign riders, rules too complicated, decreasing crowds, bikes getting faster and racing getting worse etc etc. basically the same complaints as today. So I guess this article proves that speedway has been in decline for 6o+ years, but is still going. The GP series to me showcases speedway better than anything in my lifetime anyway (exception I will grant the 81wprkd final, even if the racing was not as good as you see in most GPS, though the penhall races were exceptional). And the Poole meeting last night shows how good donestic speedway can be, albeit in front of much smaller crowds than 60 years ago.

Auto correct! Pavlic please, though Pavlova would be nice. Will bet more closer to the weekend but getting placeholders in for now in case I forget. But I had forgotten the rules so thanks for the reminder! -

Agree it's all opinions, I'm just amazed anyone would complain about the track after that meeting. -

Dj was indisputably the best rider in the world in 80. KC was indisputably one of the two best riders in the world in 82. Simmo was not the best rider in the world in 76. He was one of a group of riders who could have made the podium under a gp system. But likely would have finished behind Olsen and mauger imo. So I don't think I'm persuading you GC, I agree with you. -

Holder certainly didn't look to get to the high line on heat 1 😉But there was passing on the inside as well as outside. And apart from 1st bend incidents, only one fall all night. Certainly didn't think the track looked dangerous, and the racing was top notch. I really don't get how anyone can complain about the track after a meeting like that, or say it was a good meeting "despite the track." -

Simmons 1976 vs Carter 82? I'd have to say Carter 82 was better. But agree that Simmo had longevity on his side, and arguably achieved more. Pthers have convinced me to move Mort up to 3rd, still behind those two. And if Jessup was on the list, he'd have to be 1 oe 2 - Jessup in 80 was clearly the best rider in the world, no brainer for champ under a GP system. -

What a cracking meeting that was, speedway as it should be. My thoughts: - I expected to log on and see people acknowledging that actually the Poole track produces good racing. But over half the people on here are complaining about it!?! Cant understand it - I measure a track by two things. Is it safe, and how good is the racing? The racing was excellent, and I dont think it loked dangerous. It required riders to ride with heart, head anmd skill, and thats the way it should be. Much rather watch racing on a track like that than on something so smooth, fast, and easy to ride athat there is no passing. Best meeting I can recall watching this season outside of the the NSS. - Swindon were undoubtedly strengthened by Newman. Not going to pass judgement on whether it was dodfy or not, but not going to shed tears for Poole with their history. Hve to say Swindon are starting to do much the same (Bacth/Ward gate for example) - Cant understand any Poole fan booing Neman. When Aces offloaded my favourite rider Larry Ross, whenever Halifax came to visit I'd still be cheering for him, hoping he'd score a max and the Aces would win. -5 out of 7 Poole riders did their job, Holder and Lahti let them down -For Swindon, everyone did their job - Shanes is a great little battler, shows why every team should have at least one brit at reseve, hope he is back at Poole next year -Newmans team riding when Ellis went off 15m was absolutely superb, slowing the race down perfectly, cant remember the last time I saw someone do it so well - Darcy? - Swindon had the rub of the green with luck, but that said ould easily have ended more than 2 points iup 0- -instructions to not build too big a lead in last 2 heats to ensure a big crowd for the 2nd leg othwrwise was an odd choice not to put out Morris and Doyle as a pair after their efforts in ht13 , regardless of how well Musielak had ridden. In summary, great meeting, great result, and look forward to seeing a kiwi back in swindon colurs for the 2nd leg. If the Aces dont win this year, I hope the Robins do, certainly noone can acuse their fans of being glory hunters! -

Pleased he couldn't gate, watching at Hyde Rd would have been nowhere near as entertaining if he and PC weren't forced to swoop round the boards from the back -
Carter did plenty of work from the back. Same with Lee. Not bad gaters but not in the same league as gundersen or Nielsen from the tapes.I'd say Brits have often been comparatively poor gaters: the Collins brothers, Morton, Andy Smith etc.
