  1. Would disagree with that last statement, Id say most kiwis over the age of 40 anyway know Mauger and Briggs (perhaps not Moore). Old gutsers gives me stock forcsaying most kiwis wouldnt have heard of Barry butter worth, but I stand by that statement.
  2. I think the issue here is that no bookie will take a HUGE bet on the speedway? Dont you sometimes have issues betting more than a few quid?
  3. So..does anyone apart from Phil think this is a good idea?
  4. How is your last point relevant? The issue isnt that he will be at reserve, the issue is that 4.65 is 2-3 points lower than it should be. And Ive said since ladt year that any rider with a 2016 average needs a conversion, its not a Poole thing.
  5. Classic!!! Read his post again...
  6. Anyone who argues Ford is taking a risk signing Woryna on a 4.65 average...
  7. umm.. everyone who's posted on this thread?
  8. Why!!???!!! You have a great event that is one of the absolute highlights of the speedway year and you ruin it? If u want a pairs comp why not just have a pairs comp as well, you can run it in a weekend. a pairs comp should be a pairs comp not a three man team. And Id suggest the best way to run a pairs comp is top 4 of 7 to semis, where points are added to score from meeting. Then a final where points are again added (maybe final should be double points to avoid risk of it being meaningless). But the Swc has been such a terrific event this is awful news.
  9. Is the rule 1 over 8 or 1 8 or over?
  10. Piotr was a gp rider in 2017. So is the rule a rider who rode gps in 2017 is a 9? Or a 2018 gp rider is a 9? Or anyone who has ever ridden gps is a 9?
  11. But Piotr is not a gp rider? Tbf its about right. Ive argued that due to the weakness of the league last year vs 2016 a 1.2 multiplier is about right. Before u even get into the impact of the heat format. Most gp riders would have averaged 7.5 ish in 2016 so 9 seems ok. But why only gp riders? Why not a multiplier of 1.2 OR an assessed average based on 2017 Swedish or polish averages? And seriously - why only 1 over8!?! Has stuffed wolves robins and aces. Ford must be laughing with Woryna on a 4.65. When hes averaged similar in 2017 in top leagues to riders who will now be on a 9.
  12. that's actually a logical move re the re-assessment, but makes even more ridiculous the decision to restrict teams to one rider over 8...
  13. correct. and while some fans say "clubs should cut costs and riders cut costs", when a rider performs badly due to having substandard equipment, many of the same fans will be calling for the rider to be replaces
  14. There are valid arguments that could be presented for a 45 point limit. The thing is, that you raised the one argument which shows a total lack of understanding of averages. It's incomprehensible that someone who understands averages would suggest the limit "should be 45 because that's how may points are needed to draw a meeting" but what benefit do you gain from rounding to 0.5 ? It provides a less accurate indication than rounding to 2dp, and means impact of anomalise such as an ef coudl be cinreased from 0.01 or 0.02 to 0.5. There are occasional issues now with riders throwing races to drop their averages by 0.02 points are so. How much worse would it be if rider knows dropping a couple of points can see them landed with an average 0.5 or 1 point lower for the next season.
  15. When people say a cl guest, are they limiting tgat to those not doubling up?
  16. Is speedway unique in that so many fans dont understand the statistics, despite the fact that they are much simpler /less varied than the stats in almost any other sport? Its hard to imagine a cricket fan for example not understanding averages or strike rates. What does this say about speedway fans?
  17. One good way to illustrate the last point is to look at averages from the old test series of the 70s and 80s. Plenty of 9 point riders who averaged 4-6 points in those series (if you convert to 4 ride averages).
  18. Its staggerring that anyone can find the concept complex, theyve been calculated the same way since the BL was formed (probably earlier). Assuming this is a piss-take?
  19. It doesnt seem you get it at all? How could a team built to the average strength of the league struggle to draw? They would generally win at home lose away. Or are you assuming they will all have 4 rides and put no one out in heat 15.If y set the limit to 45 - how are all teams going to build to that? Where are the extra riders coming from to add the extra 30-40 points to the league?
  20. Just to expand on the above, some heats 1-14 will raise the average, some will decrease it, but over the 14 heats, assuming all riders take 4 rides, 42 will be the average team average (assuming at least 3 finishers per race). Where the average gets skewed is when riders have a 5th ride. In the event of extra heats, if the rider average is above 6 the heat will reduce averages and vice versa (so an extra reserve race could mover averages above 42). In terms of substitute rides within the 14 heats, a higher averages rider replacing a lower averages rider will bring down overall averages (and vice versa). As a side note, I assume the OP was taking the p with his suggestion? Surely, surely after the number of fines the topic has been covered no one genuinely thinks like this?
  21. NOOOOO!!!!!! Because this is part of the 4 rides. Also the number 7 sometimes having only 3 rides can pull overall averages down a little.
  22. I would expect they still will. Minimum rides being one less than scheduled rides seems right. I thought the pretty much unanimous consensus was that it was a cost saving measure as opposed to the ts rule it replaced?
  23. Correct its actuslly the opposite. Youd expect the average team average in any year to be around 41.5. So this year each team can be on average a point stronger than last year. And if no conversion is needed for heat leaders from 2016 who didnt ride last year, that strengthens it further as in reality they should be on multiplier.
  24. 1.25 would be right though. Last years pl was 1.25 times stronger than the cl With fixed race nights surely you should be allowed 7 double ups if u want? With fixed race nights surely you should be allowed 7 double ups if u want? Up til 1986 I think it was they could have only two rides
