  1. they do in gps (which I was referring to), but not in sec/aussie champa.hence can see the logic in this point system for sec, but think unnessecary for sgp.
  2. I for one would be interested to hear more about these, I doubt anyone folliowng this thread would have any objection yo the topic diverging
  3. But as bruv sayd, they will already have been rewarded fir making the final by the points they received in the semi
  4. 2013 gp series included hancock pedersen woffinden holder and gollob. So 5 wprld champs in at least a dozen meetings that season alone. If youre including futurre world champs, then ward makes it six But must be common. 87 world finsl with gundersen nielsen jonsson jan o and ermolenko for example. 80 blrc I think had lee mauger olsen collins penhall nielsen - the inter continental final that year had all of them definitely.
  5. Im sure the fact that he was being paid by his club this season (I assume) may also have helped his enjoyment of riding. note he also says you need some luck to win the gp series, which ehile true arguably applies to a much greater extent to sec where one round missed with injury would effectively end your chances.
  6. Think greg would be ranked by most behind riders like olsen craven moore who won same/lower number of titles, and also possibly others such as gundersen penhall and collins. pedersen or hancock higher in the all time greatness stakes?
  7. fair point. A basic google of adderall instantly reveals that it contains amphetamine, and as u say any sports person should know that's probibited.makes u wonder how legit the adderall explanation was tbh.
  8. 16 months seems harsh given those circumstances
  9. However amphetamine is arguably performance enhancing, hence why darcy's punishment MAY be lower than this example or dudek. was it a prescriprltion amphetamine as opposed to a "recreational" variety?
  10. Shows what a difference equipment makes for a world class rider like holder to only finish middle of that field
  11. Thanks. Will he ship his own out for the remaining meetings or just"make do".
  12. Anyone know why chris holder was on apparently sub standard machinery?
  13. I don't think you can blame/credit sky exclusively for play offs. I would imagine the promoters are keen on them too. most major sports use them. football is the only exception I can think of, but there u have european football toplay for and relegation to avoid, so there is plenty to play for in addition to the title.
  14. I guess the logic is that if u get an email you read it. Whereas u may nor bother logging onto the website? How many non berwick fans would randomly log onto the website? tbh, no reason why the info in the newsletter couldnt be recreated on the website. email is hardly social media though is it?
  15. I agree henry w, it's impossible to definitively prove the impact of play offs on attendances. However, under the play off system there are significantly more "meaningful" fixtures. Previously by the half way stage of tge season normally only two or three teams had any hope of being champions. You'd have to assume that at least has a "neutral" impact on regular season matches, with an uplift then for the play offs.
  16. In 1980 there were 17 bl teams. In 1990 there were nine. In 2014 there were 10.Would you suggest that indicates the decline starting before or after sky got involved with the sport and playoffs were introduced.? The attendance at the odsal world finals in 85 and 90 were in the 30000s. Britsin hosted three world finals of the last fifteen. In comparison Cardiff attracts around 45k EVERY year. Would you suggest this indicates the decline of british speedway started before or sfter the gps? Would suggest to me the chsnges have actually slowed or even reversed the decline. The play offs I believe are the most attended domestic meetings of the season - suggest this indicates they have helped the sport.
  17. Agree with your post salty, apart from the last sentence. Speedway needs to offer value for money compared with rival options, this may actuslly mean spending more (be it on narketing, entertainment, facilities, track prep etc.) In order to provide a product which people will spend the better part of twenty quid on and feel they got their moneys worth. out of interest, how much was tge ice hockey?
  18. Tried pming u but getting an error message. Would be interested in a list of any meetings u have from hyde rd, plus any 80s meetings. thanks
  19. weren't you meant to be doing sid's dishes? is that a FACT. Yuo use that word (ie) a lotIn more important news, has anyone heard if arson is ok after beong knocked out by sidney's fart?
  20. Mauger ((6) briggs (4) olsen (3) Moore (2) peter collins (1) Best of all time, I'd agree its a kiwi, but go with a different one to you
  21. Surely only lay downs of those have increased costs? doublepoint rides were brought in to reduce costs. cant think of any of the above that have driven people sway from the sport - except perhaps yoursrlf twk. Even then - if all other aspectspwere great, would u have quit over double points? speedways issue isn't that it's changed too much, but that its changed too little and too late - it hasnt adapted to changing customer demand.
  22. The sport was definitely in decline in the 80s, which was prior to sky, play offs, double point rides, gps, lay downs, team suits etc. what new fangled rubbish are u referring to twk?
  23. true, but most post such sentiments only when it is relavent and don't pull all topics back to poole/ford/ward/middlo. I find it hard to believe anyone (even Asterix) would have the gaul to call you an idiot, but if they did, I'm pretty sure it's not because you've pointed out that gav is anti poole...
  24. Sid may not always articulate his points well, but I think it is pretty clear he has watched a lot of speedway and has good knowledge going back to the 70s. you clearly have decent speedway knowledge, but if you think your posts don't display an anti Poole bias, bordering on obsession, then you are somewhat delusional.
