Tbf even back in the 80s I seem to recall cradley ridrrs dropping the early season points to enable Simon Cross to be fitted in - I don't think it is a purely modern phenomenon though play offs may have exarcebated it

Tbf if Swindon were trying to lower batch's average sure ly he should have gone out in heat 15? Or like Sheffield with ty proctor would that have been too complex for management to figure out?

Swc...3-man Teams And R/r.
waiheke1 replied to customhouseregular's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
It was ever thus. I've got ian thomas account of the 80 grand slam team and the issues they had gettiƱg non riding reserve john Davis paid the equivalent of 4 rides start money. 3 ridersbis barely a team. Personally would love to see a world pairs (no reserve), world cup (4;rider teams one reserve) and world test champs (6 rider teams, two reserves), the latter run over a two year period. -
Good win for the aces. Is Troy s average now below 7 - scb? Who was north guesting for and how? If this was poole this thread would be longer than the Greg one

The Dilemma Of Greg Hancock
waiheke1 replied to Grand Central's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Are you starman's less intelligent twin? Do you know what "national" means? And are you aware that Sweden is not in Britain? -
Why do we know nothing? There are facts in the public domain. Fact that he had smoked pot then fled the police. Fact that he was over the UK drink drive limit - let alone the speedway limit- when tested before the Latvian gp. Fact that he lied about how much he had drunk. It there fore seems inappropriate to be calling pedersen a prat on twitter. Or telling Nicki he is not "top dog" - how many world titles has Nicki won and how many has Darcy?
-
No he has a reputation for having a bottle of vodka to hand for using for stuffing...what a gentleman

So why not just allow a reserve as always used to be the case? Surely the additional cost is immaterial in the scheme of things? -
Whereas normally that only kicks in immediately after heat 10...

Are the aces allowed to call off the meeting, or can it only be done by the referee? Seem to recall there were some restrictions imposed after watergate?

The Dilemma Of Greg Hancock
waiheke1 replied to Grand Central's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Nicki fences Greg. Greg rugby tackles Nicki and then gets a 5 year old to pen his "apology" statement. And still Darcy manages to come out of the incident looking far worse than either of them. -
How are Coventry to blame.? Yes they should have lowered the prices to encourage pre purchase of tickets. But surely neither Coventry or Poole are to blame for the meeting running to exactly ten heats?

Swc Final 2015

Surely if you are trying to avoid finding out a result you avoid the official website!?! Or is that just me? -
Normally while out on loan...

Truly excellent meeting, most enjoyable. Congrats Sweden -
So out of interest what happened to the track between heat nine and ten to change it from safe to unsafe? What a promoter said on camera should have no bearing on whether a track is deemed safe or not?

Scrap The Controversial Heat 10 Rule!

If that is the approach u take though then you surely have to include a rider riding to the tapes? Surely that is "action" also by that definition -

The report will come out at the same time as Darcy's statement I reckon. -
Scrap The Controversial Heat 10 Rule!
waiheke1 replied to heathen chemistry's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Yep, I got that one wrong. Now let's see if ha will admit that batsman pretty much never get run out in the bowlers run up (a quite distinct action from the delivery stride) -
Reminds me a little bit of a young Andy smith in terms of physique, way he is not overawed by reputation, and way he works his way through the field after missing the gate, though clearly he has a much more polished style and far less wild than smudger was. Hopefully will kick on to be a world class talent, must be a chance of world u21 champ at some point and hopefully in GPS in 3-5 years time. I think its almost unanimous that he should have got a wildcard - really can only be explained by pettyness on the part of those making the decision that he hasn't been given one?

Scrap The Controversial Heat 10 Rule!

A rider can be excluded for touching the tapes before the green lights come on. When was the last time you saw a batsman run out as the bowler was on his run up? -

In that case you would have to say a speedway race is "live"as soon as the two minutes warning goes on -
So we would have lost 2 points in heat 8. Gained 5 in heat 9 (assuming tai won). Given that Aussie won by four, on what do u base your claim that we would have got a run off? Agree. It also made sense to have tai or bomber against Greg, as the hope would be that you could get a two point gain by winning and Greg second. Much as Lambert showed huge promise, and I certainly don't blame him for the defeat, those were the two key moments for me ( though you could add the third places tai and king ran).Good effort, and just a shame the ridiculous rules around no reserves mean we are now meeting Poland instead of Sweden who I would have fancied us to beat. Imagine it will be the same team, though cook a possibility to replace king? Do either of them have much experience around vojens?

Agreed. Batsman plays and misses the ball is in play for under a second. Ball hit to boundary - maybe 5 seconds? Average over the ball would be live for maybe 30 seconds? So in 10 overseas around 5 minutes Max.If you include bowlers run up then u need to include riders waiting at the tapes.
