  1. Or if one side has used the tr, the other side gets to use it in heat 15. U get the benefit of potentially keeping the contest alive for longer, but with the leading team not significantly disadvantaged.
  2. Far more incentive for a rider to keep trying in the GPS,whereas in a world final after two rides they may have nothing to race for. On a 1-1 basis I'd day Wembley beats cardiff, BUT you'd only get a world final in the UK every 5 years now, and its doubtful any promoter would risk holding it at Wembley (assuming even available), so you may well end up with cardiff anyway, just 20% as often. Not sure the crowd would me much bigger than the 40k mark either.
  3. Yep at 6 down they did So u could choose gates and replace two weaker riders with your top two
  4. I think we all preferred the TAC sub rule. It's a fact it was more unfair though
  5. Taking holder as an example, in his first three home and away meetings this season his record against second strings was 12-11 in his favour.Yet you propose Harris, who is a point better in the el than cook who averages 10 in the pl, to race against pl riders and say that would be more even? Everyone agrees improvements need to be made, but there are enough things genuinely wrong without people making things up that have no basis in fact.
  6. Top of my rankings doesn't mean he would have won GPS. That said I think his consistency would have seen him finish top. He dropped just 1 point in three meetings qualifying for the world final, 1 point from 3 world team cup meetings , would have been on podium in world final but for puncture, rostrum in blrc, 2nd? in averages. He may not have won as many GPS as Lee, but I reckon over a season he would have been top. Lee had some purple patches but also some periods of poor form that season
  7. Currently completing 83 but looks like Nielsen will emerge top ahead of gundersen then Lee/sigalos. Pretty tight, though not as close as penhall/Carter in my 82 rankings (penhall edgeing it by 0.02)
  8. Yet you put up for 30 years with a rule which was inherently more unfair?
  9. Ivan would have been fine with different start rules. Gundersen struggled more than anyone in the first season, but then averaged over 11 in the second. A true pro like Ivan would have adapted as quick as anyone
  10. What you say gc is true in some ways, though don't agree with the specifics. I'm not sure how Ivan would have stayed sharp enough to race GPS without racing in the BL, though appreciate he may have skipped the odd meeting -certainly no modern gp rider has been able to successfully opt out of league racing, if only because the income is needed to fund the gp efforts. It has also proved incredibly difficult to retain titles, so while I expect mauger would have dominated the early 70s I'm not sure he would have significantly increased his number of titles. Ole was also pretty professional, and then of course you have the pure talent of Collins and lee
  11. O think it just shows how tough the current format is.Also that perhaps these riders don't have their best bikes here. Which is interesting because people say they don't want riders spending a fortune on bikes because its not sustainable, but they certainly start complaining if it's their number one! Would suggest it also indicates how evenly matched races in the el are Would note also that the likes of holder zagar jonsson lindgren Andersen are all still world top 20-25 riders.
  12. That would be the holder who dropped to 2md string this year? And woffy/killer who haven't raced el this year (bar a handful of meetings). The el with current format has more evenly matched races than ever, evidenced by most riders averaging around 6, with the very best averaging around 8? Compare to the pl where cook averages over 10
  13. He would have been on the podium almost every year in the 70s I reckon, but champ only twice imo. Collins would have won a couple, Lee one, michanek maybe 1, and Ivan the rest. Agree Hans would likely have won 6-9 titles under the current format.
  14. I think all sides will win their home matches. If kl can win at Leicester that should be enough for them, ditto aces at wolves. but definitely concerned that Swindon could squeeze Past the aces if we fail to pick up points at wolves and that is far from a certainty
  15. In a gp system though I reckon Olsen would have only won 2 or 3 titles. 75,78 any other years?
  16. A laguta at 23. Working on historic seasons, but starting by redoing the 80s with improved methodology and then will look at 70s/90s. Depends how much free time I get.
  17. Leon is 26th, sandwiched between Hans Andersen and tomasz gollob.
  18. The ranking system includes all league matches in top two flights in Britain, Denmark and Sweden and top flights in Czech and Denmar. Also includes GPS, SEC, SWC, SEC pairs, national championships, World U 21s, GP qualifiers and Ekstraliga final riders championship. Meetings up to 3 August. 1 TAI WOFFINDEN 11.45 2 NICKI PEDERSEN 10.62 3 EMIL SAJFUTDINOW 9.90 4 Jarosław Hampel 9.79 5 GREG HANCOCK 8.96 6 PIOTR PAWLICKI 8.96 7 MACIEJ JANOWSKI 8.71 8 NIELS KRISTIAN IVERSEN 8.56 9 ANTONIO LINDBACK 8.51 10 Martin Vaculik 8.50 11 PETER KILDEMAND 8.42 12 Piotr Protasiewicz 8.22 13 Grigoriy Laguta 8.12 14 BARTOSZ ZMARZLIK 8.03 15 MATEJ ZAGAR 8.01 16 Przemyslaw Pawlicki 7.82 17 JASON DOYLE 7.73 18 CHRIS HOLDER 7.55 19 ANDREAS JONSSON 7.49 20 Fredrik Lindgren 7.33 The next Brits on the list are Harris (32nd), Nicholls (41), Cook (42), King (51) and Lambert (57). Darcy excluded from the list as he's ridden under 10 meetings this season, but would othersise have slotted in in 14thspot. List is remarkably similar to Dolgin's rankings (based on performance over last two years) - we have the same top three in order, and the only differences in riders included in respective top 20s is that I include Prz Pawlicki, Jonsson and Lindgren wheras he has Ward (7th), Kolodziej and Hamill (!?!). https://docs.google....T3c&hl=ru#gid=0
  19. According to Peterborough site bsn expected to be lifted. But as an ex boro fan I'm sure u know that.
  20. Would have to be top ten Sid. Best rider of his era apart from mauger. Pick of the three time world champs for mine, though would rate him behind Hans in terms of greatest Dane. And certainly in the top handful of visiting riders around Hyde rd
  21. I presume those folks must have stopped going in 83 after the aces won the premiership by using a TAC sub in the final heat of the 2nd leg to get the required 5-1 which gave them a 2 pt win on aggregate?
  22. Harris won't get a wildcard.Lindback deserves a spot, and kildermand has a decent claim. Emil will be offered a wildcard as will Darcy. Laguta hasn't entered qualifiers for gp for years. Pawlicki/zmarzlik could well get a wc if no pole qualifies from challenge. Remember how many poles there were in world finals in the 80s who were there effectively under a quota system - far less competitive than the likes of Harris and jonsson.
  23. How are young Brits of genuine ability going to improve in a league like that where the quality would be barely higher than current pl?
